- Roger Deakins, James Ellis Deakins, and Nomadland cinematographer Joshua James Richards have a conversation about the cinematography of the Cohen Brother's 1996 film, FARGO.
Fargo is a 1996 black comedy crime film written, produced and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. Frances McDormand stars as Marge Gunderson, a pregnant Minnesota police chief investigating roadside homicides that ensue after a desperate car salesman (William H. Macy) hires two criminals (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare) to kidnap his wife in order to extort a hefty ransom from her wealthy father (Harve Presnell). The film was an international American-British co-production.
Filmed in the United States during the end of 1995, Fargo premiered at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival, where Joel Coen won the festival's Prix de la mise en scène (Best Director Award) and the film was nominated for the Palme d'Or. The film was both a commercial and critical success, earning particular acclaim for the Coens' direction and script and the performances of McDormand, Macy, and Buscemi. Fargo received seven Oscar nominations at the 69th Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, winning two: Best Actress for McDormand and Best Original Screenplay for the Coens.

Which movie should we make a video on next?
I've not seen a proper study of The 13th Warrior's cinematography yet. It wasn't the biggest film by any means, and it definitely went through production hell, but the final picture had a raw, genuine look that's always stuck with me. I'd watch that video in a heartbeat!
Thanks for the suggestion! We haven't seen it yet, but we'll try to get to it soon.
I would like to hear Deakins talk about the big Lebowski and the man who wasn’t there it’s kinda weird how he doesn’t talk about them much also if you could make something about blood simple that would also be appreciated because there’s not much conversation about that film
@@user-uw3fr7cd9z Thanks for the great suggestions. A Blood Simple video is definitely on the way. We'll try to find some stuff on Deakins talking about the Big Lebowski. Stay tuned!
@@CinemaLabyrinthine thanks you can scratch the man who wasn’t there I just found an hour long commentary from Deakins about it
Fargo is a work of art. A perfect film as well.
Agreed. It's one of our favorites. Thanks for checking out our channel!
Still waiting for Fargo 2: Revenge of Mike Yamagita
It’s a good story. Told well and in the right way for it. Something many films miss.
Wow man I mean ... Fargo just might be my favourite film ever
Great interview about a fantastic movie. It's my personal favourite Coen movie. Unfortunately in Hollywood today, movies like "Fargo" are a rare exception. The Coen Brothers and a few others are still making movies with real lasting cinematic value, instead of the Marvel comics/big explosions/ultra-violent/green screen CGI blockbuster crap that has totally taken over the industry.
Joe palooka😂
The art of not beautification . Simply creating beautiful as simple it is .
fargo has been in my top 10 since i was a kid. theres just something i love about it, rather, so many things
Love, love, love! That's "Sir" Roger Deakins!
Great video! thanks!
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.
More of this!! Excellent
More to come!
Great vid!
With an exception to Blade Runner 2049 everything after Fargo has been quite minimalist for Deakins. And that’s not a bad thing, every filmmaker brings their own unique style and that is why I love this art form.
Great job on these videos. Keep up the good work. Surprised your subscriber numbers aren't higher.
Your comment is greatly appreciated. I have big goals for this channel.
great interview!
would love to see some insides on Heat, or Falling Down, or The Neverending Story, or Incendies
Thanks for the great suggestions.
Team Deakins has an episode where James and Roger talk to Denis V and they spend a good amount of time delving into Incendies. Treat yourself.
Awesome
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
the Coen Brothers and Quentin Tarantino are my favorite filmmakers…
Da heck ya mean
I don’t really consider Macy to be the main character. Going into it I thought Frances was the main character (for reasons I can't explain it was years after release before I finally saw it). After watching it I saw it as more of an ensemble cast.
where's the intro music from?
Hi Iando, it's called "Argonne" by Zachariah Hickman. You can find it in the UA-cam Studio Audio library.
♥♥
Suggest you credit which episodes of Team Deakins you pulled the audio from.
Of course. The description box has the link to the episode.
@@CinemaLabyrinthine Yes, but you do not say “Audio content from Team Deakins Podcast episode X” or credit the cinematographer who is asking the terrific questions. You are not posting original content and should be upfront with your sources.
Drama + Documentary...
A Fiction Documentary, if you will
Whats the name of the first song?
Hi Ozzie, it's called "Argonne" by Zachariah Hickman. You can find it in the UA-cam Studio Audio library. I didn't add it to the credits because the artist does not make that a requirement to use their music. However, since there is an interest in the music in these videos, I will try to start crediting all the music I use. Thanks for watching!
@@CinemaLabyrinthine thanks!
jesus, I hate these edits. music blasting, so the yt algorithm cannot pick up copyright violations, and spoiling the whole thing.
still don't like this film
That's ok! Not all art will appeal to everyone. What kind of movies do you like?
