God knows what you ought to pray for before you even start praying. So why then do u even have to speak in tongues??? Does it benefit the guy beside u? Can he/she says AMEN to your unknown shikirabababsahndaaba? Praying in spirit is not necessarily saying out a word/syllable. You can keep silent and pray in your heart and yet God still hears you! So now tell me how do the mute guys shall speak in tongues? Are they left out? Speaking in tongues means speaking in a known language!!! For all the language in the world, none is without meaning! Don't pray like the pagans! Speaking in tongues is not the greatest gift and you shall be eager for gift of prophesy.

    Here’s my testimony with tongues:
I attended church service Sunday, the pastor was praying over the entire congregation to make us speak in tongues. The whole service was literally worship & prayer to speak in tongues. I began to feel sad because I could hear and see many people saying words in tongues and being baptized in tongues. Unfortunately, I didn’t speak in tongues but I told Jesus, “I know when I am ready, you will bless me with speaking in tongues.”
I went home. Prayed before bedtime and went to sleep. While sleeping, I got woken up by mumbling noises coming out of my mouth. My mouth literally woke me up. I awoke, conscience, my lips continued to speak and I could see them moving. So I got frightened, “am I possessed?” I thought. Suddenly I felt Gods voice saying “Now get on ur knees and pray” as if this was the way for me to find out what was going on.
Mind u, the whole time my lips continued moving and these words kept flowing out.
I started praying. I felt the fire of the Holy Ghost. That’s when my heart leaped for joy because I knew it was TONGUES that I was speaking 😁
But there was this particular word that I kept repeating. I grabbed my blackberry (that’s how long it was ) and looked up that particular word in my phone. When I read the definition. It blew my mind 😮, it said something like: TO GIVE JOY AND PRAISE TO GOD. TO FILL GOD WITH JOY. ✝️
Now it’s been so long that I can’t remember the word. But the other day I heard someone say “MASHA ALLAH” and that sounds similar to the word I kept repeating in tongues.
Moral to the story ❤Be patient my dear brothers and sisters. When ur time is right, it will come. Be ready and when u start to speak in tongues, continue to practice them so they become stronger ❤

However, one day while I was engrossed in reading the Bible at home, I began praying and suddenly, I experienced the overwhelming presence of the Holy Spirit. Without pause, I found myself speaking in tongues, overcome with a mixture of loud cries and tears. Although it felt like an extended period, it was merely a duration of 10 minutes. I was utterly drained and depleted of energy when it was over. My hope and prayer is that you, too, will encounter the holy Spirit and have the privilege of speaking in tongues. May God bless all of you! 😮😮

After a short time i became aware if the Holy Spirit seizing control of my tongue and i immediately began to speak in this spirirual language, that in English, we call "tongues".

A gift cannot be developed now it is possible your were desiring it for two hours and then all of a sudden you received it but it’s not something you start trying by repeating words until your tongue is released or developed this is a false doctrine that many preachers teach.

@elirodriguez514 You are right that the spiritual gift of tongues/the language isn't learned or taught. But when I was a teen, and asked for the gift of tongues, I first persevered in speaking syllables that came to my mind as a step of childlike faith. I don't believe those syllables were tongues, but God honoured the perseverance and suddenly, when I turned my focus away from myself and away from the sounds I was speaking and focussed on sincerely praying to the Lord for someone in my mind, a language began to flow from my spirit, nolonger from my mind. In this sense it was like the gift was released, I don't think that would be too inaccurate a phrase.

When the bible mentions "speaking in tongues", it's talking about suddenly speaking in a KNOWN UNDERSTANDABLE LANGUAGE THAT THE PERSON HAD NOT PREVIOUSLY KNOWN BEFORE, NOT BLABBERING NONSENSE GIBBERISH. READ THE BOOK OF ACTS AND THE CONTEXT CONTEXT CONTEXT!!! The apostles were speaking in different tongues/languages they hadn't known before, by the power of the Spirit, to be able to preach to other people who didn't speak their language. 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14 is pretty much saying that there are different parts of the body that do different things for specific reasons, to edify each other. The eyes don't look at the ears with resentment because they can only hear or they feet being envious of the hands because they don't do all the walking etc. Pentecostal, Baptist etc are neither wrong or right persay, but are different from each other so we can edify each other and learn from each other. There are certain denominations and religions within christ that we definitely have to be aware of that accept heresy in their church, but for the most part there is really no wrong or right "denomination"

In 1 Cor 14, Paul speaks of tongues as being a spiritual gift (not referring to a natural ability) and describes the languages as our spirit praying to God while our mind is unfruitful. He says we should not only pray in the spirit, but also with our understanding.
I pray in my native language in my mind when praying audibly in tongues (not native language), the language sometimes changes as I pray for different people and situations. I don't know for sure, of course, if what I'm praying with my spirit by the Holy Spirit correlates to what I'm praying in my mind.

I am often, at the same time, praying in my own native language in my mind though. I don't think what I'm praying in my mind is an interpretation of the tongues.
I don't know if the tongues I speak in prayer are heavenly languages or earthly ones, but they sound like earthly ones. What would a heavenly language sound like? I have no idea. Paul wrote of (at least hypothetically) speaking in the tongues of men and of angels. But since we don't know all the languages in the world how would we know if our tongue is an earthly one?

    1. There are different types of speaking in tongues; and this is how you recognize it.
    2. If Paul is speaking of private usage of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, why does he say I want you to prophesy?

    • @hailey5672
      @hailey5672 2 роки тому

      1. It is described in 1 Corinthians 14 (maybe also other places but I haven’t done extensive studying). I wouldn’t call it different “types” but more just different uses of speaking in tongues. Verse 5 kind of addresses both, by saying prophecy is greater than tongues (prayer use) unless there is an interpretation (edifying the body use). Verse 15 also talks about praying in the spirit I.e. tongues. Verse 28 also talks about the gift with interpretation but if no one can interpret, pray to God in tongues privately.
      2. Paul is kinda going back and forth talking about private usage and public. Just depends on the context to know which. It is a kinda confusing chapter but when the lord blesses you with the gift of the Holy Spirit , it is the best thing ever! Literally solidified my faith and my walk with God when I first felt His presence fill me❤

      1. What I mean by "types" is that there is an understanding here that there are 2 types of tongues:
      a. Foreign language that is unknown to the speaker but certainly a language that exists on Earth; and
      b. Language that is not spoken on Earth between creation, rather is a personal prayer language of man to God.
I do not find the latter in the Bible. So, that's my query.
      2. The same gift is to be used depending on the context. I am not disagreeing with the you on the application of this gift in church. I only have a problem with the interpretation of this one gift as two separate gifts.

@@JesusAlwaysIsGod ah sorry, I misunderstood. I can’t remember if there are more scriptures about it but 1 Corinthians 13:1 (NKJV) says
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.”
To me, this verse is Paul saying there is an angelic kind of tongue. And maybe this is the same kind in chapter 14 verse 15 that I mentioned earlier when he contrasts praying in the spirit and praying in understanding. Praying in the spirit won’t be understood by human ears. I don’t think it’s 100% clear but the same Spirit is working.
I heard an evangelist one tell about an experience he had in a church. A Jewish man visited the church and they asked people to come to the front and he did so out of respect, not because he connected with the message. They tried to explain to him that Jesus is the same God of the Old Testament, jehovah. And he said he would not believe it unless he heard God tell him in Hebrew. A moments later, a lady who did not know Hebrew was standing nearby I assume praying in tongues as normal but he heard her start saying something like “ I AM God and my name is Jesus” in perfect Hebrew. This man was shook and asked people if she knew Hebrew which she did not. He surrendered to Jesus in that moment though!
All that to say, whether the speaker is speaking in an angelic tongue or an unknown language of men, God is at work and can use it for His own purpose. Wish I had more knowledge for you but that story was so beautiful to me how faithful our God is to move in that situation and give this man exactly what he asked 🙌

@@hailey5672 Scriptural clarity and method of scriptural interpretation matter. I am certain that we agree on this.
      Here is my understanding:
      Let's say,
      1. I am in India attending a service in Hindi language. Nobody in attendance speaks any language but Hindi.
      2. I can communicate in Hindi. But I also know English.
Summary: If I pray in English, I am not understood by the congregation. Hence, it is more useful for me to speak 5 words in Hindi than preach 15 minutes in English- unless I have a translator. If I have a translator, my preaching in English can edify the church.
Likewise, is the gift of tongues. Every gift of the Holy Spirit is for the good of the church- including the gift of tongues. The gift of tongues works along with the gift of interpretation to edify of the church.
I do not deny that angels have a language. Angels do communicate after all... Our God speaks! He has always spoken! Praise God!
However, I fail to see where it says in scripture that "we speak in angelic language when we speak in tongues"; or that "even the devil can not comprehend what we say when we speak in tongues (like one of my dear brothers once preached)".

Now, I have read that God will tell the prophet to prophesy, but I do not see a prophet saying he is going to prophesy. The closest thing I see as far as that is, when the one sent by God says; ''Thus says the Lord.'' I fear and respect God too much to ever say, I'm going to prophesy.. Did alot of people miss the fact he said you don’t need an interpreter for personal prayers????? Some of us speak in tongues as we pray to God. What part of it confuses the enemy are alot of people not understanding? This is one of those scriptures that people who really feel it is an embarrassment to speak in tongues just hold on to that one part when in fact it is all about the timing & purpose in which you speak them that determines if you need an interpreter. You can pray out loud your personal prayer using tongues instead of words. It is a gift from Jesus that He left as a part of Himself that He gave to us after His resurrection.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift, it’s a manifestation (one of 9) of Christ in a believer aka The Holy spirit (1 Corinthians 12:7) EVERY believer can do it. However there are gift ministries that are given to SOME believers (Ephesians 4:11-12) This is often taught erroneously when not rightly dividing the Word

I have no need for tongues. It is the least of all gifts, and too much confusion remains about the issue. It is a gift that Jannes and Jambres can mimic, and some denominations have prioritized the gift as if its necessary proof that one has been filled with the Spirit. It is a Laodicean gift (in this current age), in my opinion. I am content with the gifts God has given me, and if you are content with the gift of tongues, then to God be the glory.

The NLT brings out the interpretation that seems to read from the context. Paul is simply highlighting that he is not against people speaking in tongues, and to drive the point home he expresses his wish that everyone would speak in tongues.
    1 Corinthians 14
5 I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy.
It’s pretty clear from other passages that not everyone has the gift of tongues.
    I Corinthians 12
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit ……to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
He then goes on to say later in the chapter
30 Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not!
Drawing a distinction between what Paul says about tongues that are or are not interpreted seems artificial. In 1 Corinthians 14 Paul teaches
27 No more than two or three should speak in tongues. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say. 28 But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately.
In other words, if there is no one present to interpret a tongue on a particular day then the person should just exercise their gift in private. There is no hint here that there is one tongue that is used in public and another in private tongue. Just that when exercised in public, the tongue should be interpreted.

I applaud the Pentecostal's eagerness to use the gifts. I think their theology gets a bit wonky at different points. The idea that everyone can speak in tongues easily leads to a sense of failure or people faking it when they don't get the gift. God is dishonoured when that happens.

"for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues,"
For the life of me, I don't see how people elevate tongues as THE ultimate gift of the Spirit. It is the most easily faked and misunderstood gift. And I Cor. 14:1-5 in context is about how prophesy and tongues (actually human languages) are for the edification of the church. It is not about a prayer language. Paul is saying that when someone speaks in tongues, the hearers won't understand a language that is foreign to them. This is where the gift of prophesy is important because the one who speaks in a tongue that is not understood, only God understands what is being said. So Paul says to seek to have understanding. That is all this context is conveying, not a secret prayer language.

can someone explain my situation to me please.
a couple years ago when i was 18 i was walking downtown at night with a male friend and 2 female friends. at times i get in a mood where i want to be alone and think to myself due to recently losing a father to suicide. so i let all 3 friends walk ahead as i was behind. then a homeless man walked up to them asking for money and they walked around him as if there was a big hole in the ground to avoid. me being me, im a empath and know how it feels to be treated as not human. he came up to me next and i told him “im sorry i have nothing i wish i could give you something but if there is anything i can do i can pray for you”. he told me he usually doesn’t let people do that but he will allow it. so i held his hand and closed my eyes trying so hard to find things to say without taking pauses and saying nonsense since i never prayed for anyone but i wanted to do this for him. out of nowhere i started speaking tongues and i felt no control over it. then i snapped out of it and tears fell from my face and i got a feeling that felt so good i have never felt before. mind you i didnt grow up in a church or with the word of god, i had never read the bible i kinda found my own way to god little by little.
ig my question is what does it mean ? can i do it again ? why me ?, why a kid who wasnt raised in the name of god and who was a trouble maker and black sheep of the family.

And as far as tongues, I have the stammering lips, and the groanings, which are a manifestation of the Holy Ghost, but after receiving the Holy Ghost thirty-seven years ago, to the best of my knowledge, I have never spoke in tongues. I did however, repent, and was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of my sins, and God filled me with the Holy Ghost.. My heart breathed in pure love: my heart pulsated pure love, and God's peace rested upon me.. It is not a simple thing to receive God. It involves death, and rebirth: both of which are not a simple thing to endure. The year before God filled me, God spoke to me audibly. God did not tell me to do anything. God called me by name, and told me He loves me.. And then after that, the enemy showed up, and told me he was taking me with him.. God, let me see and know, that first of all, God is, and secondly, it would be a battle. And God's words have kept me, and my faith, and my hope, and my peace, and had developed my love for God as a tether line, and for man, as a mission. We, His people, are living epistles, written by the hand of God. And if you disagree, how could I make anyone with a traditional belief, to believe me? Take care, in Jesus name.

@@Historyprepares Thanks for the reply Hayden. You are right in that when we hear the gospel and believe it but not in the context that many think it means.
In the Greek that the N.T. was originally written in the Word " believe" can be a noun or a verb. When we hear the gospel and believe it ( noun) that's only the beginning of a process by which we are saved and recieve the Holy Spirit.
It is "believe" in the verb form the saves us. It is what we have come to believe when we hear the gospel in action through obedience to the scriptures plan of salvation that saves us. What did Peter tell the men in the crowd in Acts ch.2 after telling them the gospel message," Save yourselves..".
For instance, when you hear the gospel message and believe it you have a choice. You can either accept it and act on what you have now come to believe or decide you want to stay as you are.
If you decide that you want to become a Christian you first must repent, turn from your past sinful life and become a Christian. This is something you have to do to be saved or you won't be saved. This is after you believe the gospel message and before you recieve the Holy Spirit. This is the first step in obeying the gospel plan of salvation.
All of the apostles, including Paul taught that to be saved/ born again one must repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and you would recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit. The word " recieve", in the original Greek, means " to take hold of". We take hold of by diligently praying for the Lord to fill us with the Holy Spirit. This is something, after we believe( noun) we must do to be saved.
Lastly, we recieve the Holy Spirit as a result of the Holy Spirit baptism. That is, we diligently pray for the in filling until God grants our request and fills us with the Holy Spirit. Then we must surrender our tongue" The body's most unruly member that no man can tame," until God takes control of it and enables us to speak in the spiritual language that the English translation calls " tongues". Now we have recieved the Holy Spirit indwelling and are born of the Spirit.

That was always one of my 'comments'/'questions' to those who promote modern tongues-speech. If a person is deaf and or mute, are they just out of luck??

@@kavikv.d.hexenholtz3474 first of all, you can’t learn a gift. If it’s a gift, then it’s a gift 100%. Why would u need to learn it? Only then you can experience how amazing God is to give u that gift. But if u didn’t get the gift, don’t force yourself to learn that gift, or force God to give u that gift. Praying in the spirit doesn’t necessarily means praying with words. You can pray in the spirit even when you’re quiet for you are praying in your heart and even crying out to God in your heart. And you can be so genuine when your pray from your heart. And that’s a perfect prayer!

Dr. Caroline Leaf a Christian Neuroscientist speaks about this. The science behind speaking in tongues. Remember science is just written facts and understanding of what our spirits already know. I really think you should be careful when you say self created. Think of it more as self-surrender.

My point is that modern tongues-speech is not the "gift of languages" Paul describes. What modern tongues-speakers are producing today can easily be learned by just about anyone.
Yes - “Praying in the Spirit” does _not_ refer to the words one is saying. Rather, it refers to how one is praying. In the three places it is used (Corinthians, Ephesians, and Jude), there is absolutely zero reference to 'languages' in connection with this phrase. “Praying in the Spirit” should be understood as praying in the power of the Spirit, by the leading of the Spirit, and according to His will. In Pentecostal/Charismatic parlance however, the phase has come to be equated with modern “tongues”, i.e. when one “prays in the Spirit”, it signifies that one is typically engaged in some form of tongues-speech.

Speaking in tongues is done in worldly religions including Hinduism it’s called kundalini. How do you ensure it’s not the same when it sounds and looks exactly the same as this personal prayer language?

    • @robertnieten7259
      @robertnieten7259 2 роки тому

When you are praying for the Holy Spirit ,and the Lord answers your prayer , He isn't going to allow some evil spirit to interfere and give you a fake language in place of the spiritual language that we call " tongues" which He Himself has chosen to confirm that you have recieved the Holy Spirit.
This whole emphasis on a " kundalini" spirit is to keep believers from recieving what the Lord has for them.
The Holy Spirit is recieved as a result of the Holy Spirit baptism. The Spirit baptism is to be filled with the Holy Spirit to overflowing.
I prayed for and was filled with the Spirit before I recieved the Spirit baptism. Once I was filled I had to then surrender the last vestige of my will, my tongue to the Spirit until He took control of it, " tamed" it and enabled me to speak in the spiritual language that our English translation calls. " tongues". The Word says that no man can tame his tongue ( James ch.3). Man can't but God can.
Once that happened it triggered the fillings overflow while at the same moment the Holy Spirit joined with my spirit, becoming one. Then I has recieved the permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
There are only three instances in the book of Acts to where its recorded that believers recieved the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment that the recieved, Acts ch 2,10, and ch.19. In each instance the first thing that happened was that they spoke in " tongues".
If I hadn't known any better I could have easily been convinced that I had recieved the Holy Spirit when I was filled. God confirming that we have recieved by enabling us to speak in " tongues" is absolutely essential so there is no doubt that it has occured.

Paul doesn't seem concerned that the believers in Corinth are speaking in tongues, but rather that things are done orderly. Unfortunately, many Pentecostal churches do not follow that order and that is how you can easily spot the error.

    • @robertnieten7259
      @robertnieten7259 Рік тому

@Josh Gellock In Pauls' letters concerning the saints in Corinth, he is speaking of large numbers of the saints speaking in tongues out loud in services to where it is disrupting the service.
That was much different than today in pentecostal churches, where the occasional over zealous saints do so. And the fact that it does happen in no way indicates that the plan of salvation taught, in those churches, is not authentic.

@@robertnieten7259 Yeah, Jehovah's Witnesses think they follow Scripture too. As do SDAs. As do Oneness Pentecostals. They all think they have a true understanding of Scripture. Right.
Paul and Peter were consistent. At the beginning of Acts, Peter said what was happening (the outpouring of the Holy Spirit) was the fulfillment of the prophet Joel, who said, "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Acts 2:21). Paul says the same thing in Romans 10:13: "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Paul also says in another place, "you are saved by grace through faith" (Ephesians 2:8-9). So when we call out to Jesus and ask Him to save us, and put our faith in Him, we're good. It's not because we go to a Oneness Pentecostal church, or because we got water baptized in the name of Jesus, or because we speak in tongues. It's because of our faith in Christ.
Should you get baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus? I believe you should, but it isn't a requirement for salvation. We are saved by our faith in the Lord Jesus and His finished work on the cross (he paid for our sins and arose on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures).
I'm happy that on UA-cam there are so many testimonies of those who have left the UPC. They should rejoice, having left a church that places unnecessary burdens on others. I cannot even imagine how many people have had to fake "tongues" so they can demonstrate their salvation. Some of the videos I've witnessed from UPC churches of people "speaking in tongues" remind me more of Montanus, rather than an actual Christian church.

@@robertnieten7259 "In Pauls' letters concerning the saints in Corinth, he is speaking of large numbers of the saints speaking in tongues out loud in services to where it is disrupting the service." I've been to services where large numbers of believers start shouting in "tongues". I've watched sermons be interrupted by someone who claimed the Holy Spirit came over them and they just had to stand up and shout loudly in unknown tongues. I've had to drive friends home from service and while we're in the car, they're like, "what was that, Josh?" I don't know. Please, spare me the argument that this was isolated to Corinth. It wasn't. It happens today in many Pentecostal churches.
"That was much different than today in pentecostal churches" No it isn't much different.
"And the fact that it does happen in no way indicates that the plan of salvation taught, in those churches, is not authentic." Even Paul knew that when an unbeliever or even a believer that is uninformed comes in, they'll say that everyone is out of their minds. There's no defense for such conduct. Those "over zealous saints" should be put on blast right there in service. And yet, in my experience, the service went on after their episode. So, so sad to even see people like you try to defend such reprehensible practices.
As for the plan of salvation being taught, if you mean the Oneness Pentecostal plan of salvation, the one with the faith in Jesus with however many other things you need to do to be saved, is questionable at best. And frankly, who would see such escapades in church and say oh yes, I want that too. Sorry friend, no. Just no.

i don’t think 1st Corinthians particularly the verse you cited shows that everyone can speak in a private prayer language. In 1st Corinthians 14 Paul tells those who have the gifts of tongues to remain silent and “to speak to themselves and to God.” He’s speaking directly to those who do have the gift of tongues to pray privately, but He doesn’t say that everyone in the church should pray privately in tongues. For the verse you cited, Paul says that “I wish all of you could speak in tongues,” but that’s exactly what it is, a WISH, in the same way that he wishes that all of us would be celibate like he was, yet he knows we can’t. I really enjoy your videos and a lot of your teachings but I think your interpretation is a little off here with all due respect, not that you’ll read this anyway 😂

Tongues where/are known languages and unless you have cloven tongues of fire above your head like at the day of pentacost you are being deceived (im being hyperbolic) I say this in also a hyperbolic way because even then the tongues were known languages. The NAR, Word of Faith and a giant swath of the pentecostal "churches" are unbiblical nonsense that is leading people to hell. Show me any evidence of any apostle or even early church members that spoke in gibberish.....I'll wait because you can't. EVERYONE involved in this nonsense is either 1) being deceived or 2) purposely deceiving others. Nothing about speaking in gibberish is providing edification to the church nor is it helping win souls over to Jesus. All it does it turn anyone with any sense away from your church and hopefully to a good Bible believing church that rightly divides God's Word.
