    here's a tip: depending on how much you spend at Costco each year, it's sometimes more cost effective to buy the executive membership as the cash back reward can potentially cover the cost of the membership or come at less than the price of gold membership!

    I know this is not their shtick, but one other reason to shop at Costco is because they actually pay their employees a decent wage and treat them with respect.

      True, and employees are highly-motivated and very positive in addition to actually making decent wages. Unlike Walmars.

      Juan A. Tena Yes they do! I know several long term Costco employees who stay because they treat them so well. Good wages, benefits & retirement. This is important to me as a consumer. I make a point to shop at retailers like that. & try my best to avoid the others.

      I get so tired of hearing this liberal BS. Its a free market. As an employee, you sell your services to the highest bidder. If you dont like the wages that walmart pays, then improve your skill set, clean yourself up and get a different job. And if you believe that walmart is paying an unfair wage, dont shop there. Spend more money for the same stuff somewhere else. They wont miss you.

    Here is the biggest tip. I did my math for my 2011 Honda van. If I were to pump gas 13 times at costco, that ALONE will pay for my $55 annual fee. Not all costco have a gas station but just in case there is one....take advantage!!!

      I disagree, at least in our area. Costco is rarely the cheapest gas, and is rarely over about $0.03/gallon cheaper. It's not worth sitting in the lines that they always have, just to save, at most, $0.45-$0.75 per tank (depending on whether I take our 15 gallon commuter car vs. our 25 gallon people-mover van).

      I have noticed too that 3:00-4:30pm Mon-TH is not bad. It's around 4:30 that things gets crazy. Some costco's close their pharmacy between 1:30-2:30 for the staff to eat lunch for 30/45 minutes. So, going around that time may not be efficient if you have to wait for them to reopen.

    Another tip, you do not have to be a Costco member to purchase alcohol from them. We, however, do have a Costco membership and have had one for years and alcohol isn't something we routinely purchase. I love their baking supplies, spices, blocks of cheddar cheese, giant containers of popcorn kernels, their amazing take and bake pizzas, tortilla chips, Kirkland baby wipes, giant boxes of Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa for the kids, their kids clothing & pj's and I could go on and on. Go ahead, buy that membership and support Costco!

      I've noticed they often have interesting items imported from countries where there are CostCos. Organic Korean Seaweed Snacks seem to be a regular thing in US stores now, since Costco purges slow sellers it must have been a pretty big hit, and knowing Costco, probably great price and quality. When we travel I like to have a look and see what kind of products they have that aren't in my store.

      Chicago style hot dogs are yellow mustard, onion, piccalilli, tomato slice, celery salt, 2 sport peppers(which no none eats), and a fresh (2 week old) dill pickle slice. The bun has to be steamed and with poppy seeds.
      I found one place in Las Vegas, off the strip off course that knew how to make Chicago hot dogs. But that was 20 years ago.

    As an international graduate student, 30$/ cartridge was quite a deal, especially that all my assignments were paper based. I would do a lot of printing and reprinting in order to edit my work a number of times; this to tell you that I needed a fortune to make this work.
    However, I believe that the best deal I found was to buy the ink from Amazon (all colors included wouldn't exceed 20$ including shipping), and I will fill in the cartridges myself. It took me less than a min to do to, and by the time I left the US, all bottles had still ink in them and I had to give them a way. Therefore, instead of filling in your cartridges at Costco, the best bet would be to learn to fill them out yourself & there are plenty of such videos on youtube. I bet, it would save you a lot of money!!! Cheers, N

    Also if you happened to know someone who has a business they can get the Costco membership which allows you to have 6 or 7 people total. And the yearly membership can be of $10 each cardholder. Hope that makes sense LOL. Example: My uncle has a landscaping business and he was able to get membership for six members in the family and it cost $60 yearly and we each chip in $10 a month to pay for the membership. thats a way better deal.

    • @12ADarkAngel

    • @untoldhistory89
      @untoldhistory89 6 років тому +2

      yeah thats not how it works at all...you pay 60 dollars for every added account...meaning your uncle would pay 60 bucks for his account with one free secondary card, then under the same account he would have to pay another 60 bucks which allows him to add on two more individuals, then another 60 bucks for another two individuals, and so on until there is a max of 12 individuals under the business account....it's not ten bucks to add on a person....its 60, and you get to add two. Speaking as someone who works in their membership department.

    Just so everyone knows, most Costcos will no longer allow people to just shop with a cash card unless they purchase a membership as well. As an employee, I've witnessed first hand at my store having to turn away multiple people with just cash cards because we no longer allow it. Essentially, up until recently, we've had to give these customers a fake membership number in order to allow them to shop, but corporate is really cracking down on allowing stores to continue to do this. Pretty much if you get a cash card, the expectation is you use the gift card towards purchasing the membership card, and then you can use the card for a whole year to shop at the store. And at the end of a year, or however long you decide to shop at Costco, you are still not satisfied with it, you can get a full refund on the membership fee so it's honestly the best deal you could go with if using a cash card. But again, don't expect to just be able to shop at the store if you get a friend to buy you a cash card because it most likely won't happen.

      Drink up the coffee, as the oils inside can go bad over time. Please don't make coffee with rancid oil!
      I suggest you buy whole beans, which you can refrigerate (Kona coffee is the best!), and use a burr grinder. Then get refillable K-cup coffee filters -- just be sure you get the right type, as there are at least 2 different types, and one of them can handle the needles entering the top and bottom of the cup. They are less than $1 per reusable filter from on-line stores.

    If you are going to shop without a membership please realize that Costco has the right to dispose of the card and have you removed from the store. If you aren't a member and you have someone else's card you are technically trespassing. Usually they don't get all crazy about it because people use their family members and friends cards all of the time but if you come up to that register making demands, you have complicated orders, you want to argue about coupons, basically anything that will require a supervisor or a manager, you will be asked to leave. I've even seen it go as far as to the police being called. So just buy the damn membership. If you don't use it, its 100 percent refundable.

    • @brier1289
      @brier1289 9 років тому +5

      You have to show your membership at the door when you come in and you cannot shop without a membership because a card is needed to activate the register. The problem is that the employees can only depend on checking ID to make sure that the card is yours. What we need is a scanner at the door because that would pretty much 100% stop non members from getting in and creating complications at the register. However the company isn't going to invest in scanners. My location is still running on antiquated registers. Maybe someday in the future they can work that out.

    Another tip a few months ago I was looking for a product that they didn't have in stock anymore and I was told to fill out a comment card at customer service and the manager in charge of ordering would get more if enough people asked. I don't know if this is just my store or everywhere but it's worth asking. Every store is a little different and they said they don't always know what to order so having 50 people leave a comment asking for something specific helps.

    Costco is a great place to go if 1)You have a family (diapers get expensive) 2)You're a bachelor/bachelorette buying tons of booze or 3)If you live an island and like to stock up once a month. The company is able to keep prices low because of memberships, if you wonder why cashiers get annoyed when you try to share a card it's because they get chewed out for doing so later. Plus with there being alcohol now, while every member did sign an agreement form when they signed up that they can't let anyone buy alcohol on their card (a redundant statement), if someone comes with a card that's not theirs and buys alcohol cashiers can lose their job. Even if you were of age, if the person on the membership isn't, then we technically break the law. It doesn't matter if you live together, or if it's your sister, we have to make sure the person on the card pays for everything, especially when there's alcohol in the order. Which is basically 9 out of 10 orders. And if you're going to pass cash around, please do it before you reach the check stands. We can't actually see any money passing, because then technically we can't accept it. Please remember that should you throw a fit that you have to pay for every guest you bring since they can't.

Norco was 1/3 price at CostCo. Ask for the price before you buy because the lower price is not always true, but very often they are way cheaper. The best part is >>> you do not have to be a member. If they ask at the door, just tell them you are going to the pharmacy.

    Here's how to save even more:
    Shop at Costco's liquidator stores.
    If Ross Shop For Less, TJ Maxx, or Grocery Outlet offers reduced-price merchandise from Macy's, JCPenney, etc, stores like Costless Brand for Less offer Costco items (e.g., Kirkland products, Luggages, clothes) for much less. Unfortunately it's only found in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm sure there are similar stores in other metro areas.
    Here's just one example: Hamilton Beach electric water percolator: $11 at Costless. Costco had it originally for $20. TV's cost much less as well at Costless Brand Names for Less.
