Des, you have the best reviews of all! For us, the folks that need a regular smartwatch the options are pretty limited, at the moment it's basically either Samsung's Watch 5 Pro or Apple's Watch Ultra. It would be great to see a full on comparison between those two watches, just like in this video!
Top 3 watches for hikers that have trail navigation GO! Love your channel btw. So much valuable information and easily understandable. Subbed.
Thank you for this review. I love your work!
Thanks!
Hi,
99.99% total agreement.👍 The magnetic strap😍 and with a little practice it is very easy to adjust, and the adjustment is micrometric. Now, I will always have a magnetic strap.👏👌
To resize the new Samsung rubber band without hurting your nail: 1) Take off your watch, 2) while holding your watch upside-down, hook your thumb nail under the locking lever while at the same time using your other hand to lift the free end of the band and pull towards the locking lever to assist in lifting it.
Thanks for the tip!
Great coverage! Thank you
You're welcome!
Great review des! Cheers from brazil🤘
Thanks!
Loved the style of the review , you speak as fast as my Brian takes in info , most UA-camrs talk so slow! Loved it , thanks
Thank you so much! Very informative video! 👍👌✌💪👏👏
You're welcome. Thanks!
Yeah!!!! Thanks for this video!🎉🎉❤️
You’re welcome!
I came here because I knew you’d have the most comprehensive review. This watch is half the cost of the Apple Watch Ultra in Canada. While some people may say that it’s not as good, 500 bucks says I don’t care.
thanks for the review
You’re welcome
This tip just helped me avoid this watch! You can get a good idea of what the routes feature will look like by loading one on your phone, follow the guide in the video but instead of routes, click enter data, it will then let you choose a route, when uploaded you will notice that it only shows you roads - although you will be able to see the route you created, this watch will be useless because it doesnt show any trails on the map, you will simply get to a fork and become confused about which trail to take.
excellent video 🤘
Thanks!
Great review as always, I have been waiting for this! Please make a comparison with the apple watch (pro version - rumor)
I'll definitely compare it with whatever is announced on Wednesday. By the way, I'll be there in person at the event so stay tuned!
Looking at this review i think i made a good choice last year buying garmin venu 2 which tracks health and fitness features very well although not much of an integration with android phone but i am fine with it. Now i am just waiting for my knee ligaments to heal so i can do workouts again.
Great video! Thank you !!!
You're welcome. Thanks!
Good to see competitors improving which might bring Garmin to re-think their prices.🤔
Garmin fenix 7. 20 days on Hand day/night no charging :)
Garmin Epix 2 pro 51mm saphire edition 30 days with workout
great detailed video
Thanks!
Wow awesome review man!
Thanks!
Good job buddy. Thx for comparing too
You’re welcome!
I have been taking my 5 pro on my morning runs and I am finding that, while it records the distance covered accurately, the map depiction of the run is totally off. Today, for example, I ran a 5 miler. I run the route often and I know exactly the mileage and the watch matched it perfectly. However, when I looked at the map in Samsung Health, it only depicted about a mile of that run (as if I started and finished somewhere else).
Hi, nice video! Will you do a review regarding to the new Samsung galaxy watch 6 classic? Would love to see a video regarding to this watch 😊
best review for this watch, subscribed!
Thanks!
Desfit is a legend! ;-)
Haha thanks!
Black also looks great on the wrist!
Very thorough review ... just a couple of comments: i don't think blood pressure monitoring is available in the US market (yet?), and what app did you use to get elevation gain data from the Watch5 Pro? Samsung Health doesn't seem to show elevation gain for cycling, running, etc. I've also found that if your Watch5 Pro HR gets erratic while exercising, try tightening the bracelet just a bit so it can't slide toward your wrist when your forearm gets sweaty. Keep up the great reviews!
I use Fitness Syncer since Samsung Health doesn't display the total elevation gain. Yup, higher up on the arm is a great tip for getting more accurate heart rate out of a watch. I went through that as well as some other tips here: ua-cam.com/video/SbiQjQK8PsM/v-deo.html Thanks!
I like the watch so far the battery is well improved. The features haven't changed much but the new strap they have is ok for normal wear not for activities. The band seems to come off if u snag it on something which isn't good. I changed my strap to a traditional band.
I'm really liking this watch. I don't do a ton of high intensity but it's been good for steady state type stuff
Ya, seems to be relatively OK for lower intensity steady state. Glad you are enjoying your watch 👍
@@DesFit also thanks for sharing these. Love your channel!
Thanks Austin!
Hi, great introduction to the samsung 5 pr, keen to know what exercises I can track such as spinning, aerobics, combat, and such classes.
Update
From what I said before that if you want more accuracy turn the watch around on the back of your wrist give that a try Make sure it's tight.
The watch band makes a difference!!!
I got a wider watch band. A rugged Velcro hook and loop. The entire watch band is wider not just where it connects. IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE IN ACCURACY FOR THE HEART RATE!! Maybe because the watch is very heavy when you don't have stability it may rock from side to side while you're exercising or lifting weights. The real issue is when you're moving around, boxing, lifting weights etc.
The band keeps it stable and tight very little movement and rocking. Sometimes I wouldn't get good readings even with the blood oxygen measurements. It would work maybe 70% of the time. Same thing with the heart rate. NOW IT WORKS EVERY TIME!! EVEN THE BODY COMPOSITION WORKS BETTER!!
I tighten it up when I'm working out. Then I undo the Velcro and loosen it up a little bit walking around normally. Still works great both ways.
My findings were confirmed with the polar Hot rate monitor, and my FRONTIER X IN MY OPINION THE BEST HEART RATE LIVE ECG HEART STRAP MONITOR WITH INFORMATION YOU CAN'T GET FROM REGULAR HEART STRAPS ABOUT YOUR HEART GALAXY 5 WATCH PRO WAS PRETTY DEAD ON!!
Peace out God bless!!
I don't like adjusting it because it is a bit tideious. So keeping it for a certain purpose makes sense like fitness where it is snug. Unless ur ok with adjusting it for difference uses every time
Hi, thanks for the awesome reviews!
IYO, which would you choose Polar Ignite 3 or Samsung 5 Pro?
Reviel excelent!!! Abraços do Brasil!!!
To easily adjust the fit. Hold the magnets on each end and pull the excess tail end down and it pops that little clip open with ease. No finger nail needed
👍 Thanks for the tip!
2:30 I just pull the end of the band torwards inside of the band circle and it pops the lever right out, super simple and fast.
I love the galaxy watch 5 pro an the Digital Bezel!"
On Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro - if you could just add a section to the app that lets you switch on and off the interactive bezel and allows you to remove the vibration option - to be able to select the bezel speed - so it could be slow, medium of fast when your finger spins the bezel. At the moment, I find spinning the touch bezel far too fast and it's easy to skip options. If I could slow the selection speed down, that would be great! Thanks, Dale - Please pass this on to the Samsung Watch engineering department 👍
I have mine in always on display and it lasts for about 3 days, even with activities and stuff. The best battery life yet
it's a gorgeous watch but it still lacks features that shouldn't be missing on a PRO watch when it comes to sports. it is still totally dependent on the phone first until google maps is updated and it is strange that the activities with which you can use the route function are only 2 if I'm not mistaken. they could do much more. it looks like an update of the galaxy watch 4 and not a new watch.
Yeah I think so. Im skipping this one. Im keeping my watch 4 even though its battery life sucks. Looking forward to the next watch next year.
Has this been fixed yet?
Even with the LTE version?
Thanks for video, and its great that you mentioned support of additional devices connection. But you had one mistake, Sporty Watch only support Tizen, if you want connect ext. sensors to Android Wear you have to use Sporty Go!, whitch is actualy app, not watchface.
And for me thats is reason why I sill must stay on Tizen.
Thank you for the clarification! 👍
Was GPS set to factory default or to higher accuracy? I wonder how much of a difference it actually makes or does Samsung need to work on their software.
Go's great with the s 23 ultra 👌
I love my watch 5 pro, but man, I'm so bummed about the heart rate accuracy being so bad. I would've been able to live with it if they would at least let you connect an external hr monitor (I have a polar h10 chest strap), but this is genuinely making me consider switching to apple
Use the "excess" band to open the locking lever. It saved my fingernails and kept me from hating the band.
Hi there, will you be doing a review on the GT3 pro?
Good day ,great and helpful videos.. my question is how does the pro 5 stand up to long term pool and open water(salt water) swimming
I own a Fenix 5 and wanted to upgrade to a "real smartwatch". So I purchased the GW5pro.
First, it's a gorgeous watch. Especially with some of the faces available.
However, over the course of 4 days it became clear that no manufacturer is doing both smartwatch and fitness watch great in the same unit. It's a perfect smartwatch but a mediocre fitness watch, especially if you're coming from a Garmin. I returned it. I'm going to try out the venu 2 plus. The new fenix's are just too expensive.
Hi, thank you for the video. Great content. Giving my old s2 and a deal from Samsung I can get pro lte for £300. Is that a better choice than Polar or Garmin for sport? I run almost everyday and do hit training. Thank you. Lech
Great Video, Would you buy this over the Epix 2
Not if you want a capable sportswatch
another way to open GPX files is by clicking the file itself and selecting "Open with" and then Samsung Health.
Thanks for review, just a heads up stay away from the rinke slim case it's made of hard plastic left abunch of surface scratches on my gray watch from just putting it on 1 time stick with soft tpu case
Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks for that.
Thanks for the review between Garmin Venu 2 Plus and Galaxy Watch 5 pro which one is the best to buy I’m not a hardcore fitness nut but love working out and the main reason I want to buy a smartwatch is to track sleep 😅
Samsung needs to support the connection to the chest heart rate system even now
They do. I'm using Polar H10. Pair it on Samsung Health app.
Unfortunately that’s with the app, not Samsung Health on the watch itself.
Just curious how did U compare this watch with Suunto 7 esp. on preloaded map for outdoor activities...
Thanks for this helpful review. Does the GW5 offer the function "total ascent / total elevation gain", e.g. from a mountainbike ride?
Which other sports watches offer a crash sensor with an emergency call? I like this feature a lot in case of a bike crash. Thanks for your reply
the thing that always put me off the Samsung's were the rotating thingo, i was paranoid it would get sand under it and grind it up
It's a valid concern. The Watch4 Classic that I have feels a little rough and I only wore it for a few months.
Have you tried turning the watch around on your forearm!! I NOTICED THIS WAS MUCH MORE ACCURATE FOR ME!!
A closely matched my FRONTIER X ECG HEARTSTRAP MONITOR!! Which I feel is the best of the best you should look it up. It was made by cardiologists.
I noticed it wasn't that accurate when it was on the front of my wrist but when I turn it around put it a little further up on my forearm it worked much better!!
You certainly like that all-caps key. 😉 Unfortunately that doesn’t work for me however it definitely works for some and glad it works for you 👍
@@DesFit yep it's fun to do caps it shows emotion.. and what's cool about my Samsung phone is that if you press the caps button it will make everything big while you talk into your phone..
Makes things fun not so boring..
@@DesFit yeah I guess everyone's body is different.. put without a dough the heart strap is the way to go if you're serious about fitness and accuracy.. the wrist in general is just a bad place to be checking your heart rate continuously..
That's why all the professionals, in boxing, CrossFit, MMA for serious training they always use a heart strap..
Not to mention using a watch gets in the way. A lot of times I use bands and when you trying to use bands when you're pushing something over your head they're always rubbing up against the watch on your wrist it's a real pain in the ass.
This watch can be used to swim or to practice swimming? Or if you have the opportunity to compare between forerunner 955 or pro 5 which one will you buy it for practice swimming? Thanks
Would you be willing to do an Epix 2 vs this review or one combined with the latest Apple Ultra?
Plenty of comparisons in the works. Thanks!
If you put your index finger between the metal and the strap and pull down. It realises the clip to adjust the strap, without breaking your nails
Could u post a video on a the watch on how to create route using samsung health app? I'd like to use it to create my own trails and cannot figure out how to record and save it.
How’s the indoor and outdoor swimming tracking? Good, decent, bad?
I love the rotating bezel but working warehouse really ruins its.
Finally 😎
👍
Quick question; so this went up at 2:45am AEST, 6th for us. I am curious; Was this time chosen due to embargo or embargo plus time given based on UA-cam metrics etc? Just seems quite specific. Thanks! (And yes of course I’m watching it to the end!).
Nope, no embargo or anything like that. Most embargo times are on the hour. This watch has been out for a while too. In terms of specificity in timing? Specific in the sense that I spent all morning editing and wanted to just get it published! 😂
@@DesFit thanks for taking the time to answer, glad they aren’t dictating you to weird times e.g. 1:26am etc 😂😂. And saw you, gp & dc musing about upload times/embargo’s in an old podcast (not to mention when you upload within a minute of each other!) so I appreciate you letting me know, very interesting. 🙂🥳👍🏻
The specific publish times are generally for product launches to protect the secrecy of a device.
@@DesFit 👍🏻🙂
Can you suggest a smart watch for runners that allow live comparison with your previous performance. I would like it to show me time delta of my current performance compared with my best performance.
A lot of people have been complaining about the GPS not being accurate versus when you use the phone. Is this true? Like the miles are off and stuff like that.
Help. Is there a wear OS alternative for weightlifting like Hevy? I want to switch to Samsung from Apple but the Apple Watch is keeping me from switching. I don’t know of an app for Watch OS that I can make routines for lifting weights and have them on my watch where I can track my reps and weight. Samsungs native app only does One. At. A. Time. And it’s frustrating. The Hevy App on Apple Watch goes straight to the next lift in your routine. So no need to keep glancing at your phone.
Question....I can't seem to find how to do a "lap" when using the cycling or hiking/walking feature. Is there a way to do this?
Great video! For the treadmill run, does Samsung give any option to calibrate distance like Garmin does?
Unfortunately not.
@@DesFit Thanks Des! Keep up the great videos.
As soon as I saw your questionable face I gave you a thumbs up :-)))
Haha, thanks!
Can you wear the watch military style? Will it adjust the functions accordingly?
Does it have and stand alone GPS sensor like the Garmin ones
Do you recommend this for daily use, performance and agility wise? As well as for working out in the gym (weight lifting) or the normal smart warch 5?
Other than the routing features, longer battery life, and the more durable build, the Watch5 and Watch5 Pro are similar in function.
@@DesFit right. So the standard version won't get scratched when i lift heavy weights or do any activity that requires strength?
The Pro version has a stronger version of sapphire but the standard version still has a sapphire lens, just not as durable. But more durable than something like gorilla glass.
I do have a question. I own first generation galaxy watch 46mm and my wife owns an active 2. Rep counter in her watch does a better job, overall but it's nowhere near perfect, in both of our devices, especially when doing things like crunches and shoulder presses. What about watch 5 & 5 pro? Besides that, do they count reps on push-ups?
It was hit and miss for me with rep counting. I'll be covering that a bit more in the Watch5 review. The push-up workout profile doesn't have a rep counting feature, at least on this watch.
@@DesFit Push-up workout profile doesn't have rep counting in our devices either. I thought samsung would add it in later generations. That's why I asked. Another major disappointment for me, is the lack of dedicated skipping-rope profile on the watch. Maybe on watch 5 & 5 pro, we can add that to watch from samsung health. Still I think it doesn't have rep-counter. I had an Amazfit Bip S before, which had skipping rope profile with rep counter, on the watch itself. That device is way cheaper than galaxy devices. I don't know why samsung is not taking initiative to add this very simple feature
Are you guys using thr bluetooth version or the LTE because my LTE version has been perfect !!
Does it have a running coach feature same with Garmin?
I never encountered 5% per hour using gps. I always have like 8/10% per hour. Could be because sometimes i move my wrist to see the data and notifications? (With gpx navigation the consumption is even higher then 10% per hour)
No ANT+ it's a shame! impossible to broadcast the cardio on a bike computer like other watches.
Is there a discrete heart rate sensor like the oura ring, but not 400 bucks and works with google fit out there?
Which would you recommend between the galaxy watch 5 pro and the Garmin venu 2 plus? Thanks!
For fitness and sports the Venu 2 Plus 👍
Can I set running intervals on this watch?
I've always wanted a Garmin but I got this gw5 pro. Is it comparable to any of the Garmin? Or not worth switching to Garmin?
The GW5 has pretty tight integration with Samsung and Android phones but on the fitness and sports side of things a Garmin can offer much more, but not as many smartwatch features.
Bt heart rate + strava or sport tracker on the watch will work?
Hi, good feedback, my question moving from garmin 745 to watch 5 pe0, no cadence although I paired it, help
I don't have the blood pressure monitor I have the heart monitor how did you get your
How to remove flight mode and phone disconnection icon from watch face screen?
you must be so fit, cos I'm not sure I heard you breathe through all of that, but thanks.
So how did you solve the dim screen issue under sun workouts?
Goooood 👍
👍
You absolutely right it's a pain try to get it off your arm
I am senior, I have exercise bike only. Where to find it on my Galaxy 5 Pro watch?
Does the Route feature work without being connected to a phone via Bluetooth (i.e having to bring the phone on the pocket) or an LTE Galaxy watch? Can you leave the phone home if you iport GPX route to your watch?
I would also like to k ow this ?
I checked it. Does it at least the route? Is there showing where you have to turn right left, etc. But it might not be overlaid on a map without the phone. Unless the map is cached turn-by-turn direction also works without being connected to the phone or having an LTE connection
I need use satellite map for GPX file. How to can i do it?
does it have heart rate zones when running? thank you in advance.
Yes, it has.
How about cadence sensor for bike rides?
Please how to add my ringing melody to the watch
I have a feeling the product management team of Samsung watch never did anything outside a gym or running in a park. They can't do basic stuff which Garmin was doing since the Fenix 5.
It looks like a very nice looking smartwatch but if you're wanting a proper sports watch you're far better off looking elsewhere. Samsung just can't seem to partner with a decent optical HRM manufacturer/supplier but that could be overlooked to a certain extent if the watch could pair seamlessly with external HRM's and other sensors.
As far as smartwatches go, it's probable fine, but for athletes or even weekend warriors that require creditable training, competition data, it's redundant. I wouldn't put much faith in it's ECG or sphygmomanometer functionality either.
Maybe, just maybe, one of these days... Nah, you only buy a Samsung watch for it's looks and smartwatch capabilities.
12 things Samsung is NOT telling you about the new Galaxy watch 5
1- Saphire glass is more scratch resistant, however shatters more easily. (This is why true time pieces don't use it)
2- The watch 5 looks the way it does, because Samsung decided to drop their actual watch partner in favor of in house design (Google still works with scoggin and fossil tho)
3- The battery is only bigger because the sensors have been upgraded, they added more tracking, and added another unnecessary sensor. More features all the time requires more battery usage...thus the bigger battery.
4- They decided to pull a page out of Apples playbook by designing the watch in such a way, that you NEED TO purchase a special cradle charger because the regular ones no longer work, and the shape of the bands prevents it from being used on most Samsung chargers made for watches... So now not including a brick...and making you purchase their new separate charger.
5 - it's basically the same specs as the Watch 4 under the hood, just with a new body.
6- They went with Titanium, not because of any light weight it has, or allergy issues. It was released in titanium because titanium can't be put into other colors without using acid based primers and all that stuff 8 can explain if you'd like... Basically they did this to prevent the issue with people asking for other colors...now they don't need to worry about that...u get black and grey...ta-da!
7- The new sensor probably won't be ready to use until the Watch 6 is released.
8- Almost every update the watch 5 has (including watch faces but minus the new sensor) will be pushed via an update to the Watch 4 series
9- There are many unworked bugs in the system they knew about but released it anyway so they had a full line up on their last presentation.
10- They forgot to mention how the watch now doesn't like to play well with other phones that aren't a Samsung...granted a few things were cut off if you didn't own a Samsung phone....now even if it's an Android itself, you lose out of even more.
11- That strap is a sad excuse to not even give you a faux leather one anymore, because one wouldn't even look good on it.
12- that new "rotating the screen" to mimic the old rotating bezel...well that actually takes up battery as well. Every time you preform that, it's a gusture..just auto turned on backed into the system. Gustures take up battery, as well as the haptic feedback it gives you as part of its imitation. Just another reason for that bigger battery..
