- The International Court of Justice has ordered Israel to halt its offensive in Rafah amid mounting international criticism. The court has no means of enforcing the ruling which senior Israeli politicians have criticized.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Friday ordered Israel to "immediately" halt its military offensive in the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip. Panel judges voted 13 to 2 in favor of the order, which characterized the humanitarian situation in Gaza as "disastrous" and "catastrophic."
What has the ICJ said?
The ICJ said Israel must "immediately halt its military offensive and any other action in the Rafah Governorate which may inflict on Palestinian groups in Gaza conditions of life that would bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part."
It added that Israel must keep the Rafah crossing open for "unhindered provision" of aid at the scale necessary to provide "urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance."
The court said that 800,000 people would be displaced by May 28 and found that Israeli efforts to alleviate risk to civilians or provide necessary food, water or shelter were "not sufficient." The World Court added that Israel "must take measures to ensure unimpeded access into the Gaza Strip for inquirers." Friday's decision marked the third time this year that the ICJ has issued preliminary orders seeking to reduce deaths and suffering in Gaza.

Israel doesn't abide by International and humanitarian law and they won't stop. Russia didn't stop either, it's been over two years now. It's mostly a matter of symbolic value since the ICJ can't enforce its rulings, but it's a step nonetheless.
The ICJ is not interested in peace because through their actions they are regarding Hamas as a legal entity. Naturally to bring peace amongst factions, we must make sure the offender has no interest to further commit the same offense. Why didn't the ICJ give a timeline for the release of Hostages since they know no nation will back down in such manner when hostages are still in the hands of the enemy? The ICJ has become a court of sentiments, they have no interest in natural justice and human rights
The UN could inforce but the US will veto which is not unusual . Israel is the US.
Simply because israel, just like the United Stated is not a member of the international court of justice. Therefor the ICJ does not have any authority over them and they do not recognize their laws/rules
True, but what it lacks in administrative power it makes up for with soft power, basically other countries can use this ruling to outright deny requests, or isolate countries, for example how Russia has been isolated by most of the world, and creating a noticeable dent in their economy

Why didn't the ICJ give a timeline for the release of Hostages if they care so much about human rights. It's crazy how people think today in our world. Some lives matter more than others? Why is Hamas still holding hostages if they care about their people knowing that Israel will not back down with their citizens being held hostages? ICJ is now dealing with Hamas a legal entity and not as terrorist with the comparison. This ruling doesn't give heartwarming incentive for peace

The court is investigating Russia for events such as Buccha and issued a very uncontroversial warrant for Putin. It doesn't need much energy for going after Russia, who has been the main antagonist for the west since 1945. It also probably doesn't hurt that their victims are European, which removes any argument over if their lives are valuable or not

Arrest warrants should also be drafted for the UN Secretary-General for countless humanitarian crimes committed on the so-called "Peace-Keeping Missions abroad. I think you are mixing it up with the ICC. The ICJ is relevant for all UN members. It's part of the membership statutes. Israel is a UN member.

We shouldn't expect Hamas to comply. This is because Hamas is not the "only democracy in the Middle East", and it does not claim to consist of the "chosen people". Nor does its army claim to be "the most moral army in the world". Israel is different.

The ICJ's ruling was directed toward halting the IDF offensive in Rafah as well as enabling humanitarian aid to come through at scale in Rafah. The ICJ ruling did not specifically order the IDF
to stop its operations in the Northern part of Gaza.

If Israel does not halt its military operations in Rafah, the UN Security Council must allow the deployment of Blue Helmets to Gaza to safeguard and stop the damage and slaughter of civilians! It's plain sense and consistent with humanitarian efforts.
Israel would be happy for blue helmets to come and look for the hostages, but the UN is afraid of doing so.

You're confusing the ICC and the ICJ. ICJ is the judiciary bench of the U.N. and has the authority to issue rulings about any disputes between member states. Israel and Palestine are both members of the U.N. and fall under its jurisdiction.
