One of my friends is a WERA racer and an instructor for N2 track days, and he took his MT10 out in Intermediate and Advanced with Michelin Road 5's... haha Modern road sport tires are way more capable than you think. Unless you are running at or near a race pace, street tires work just fine. Do a medium paced first lap to get some heat and then let it rip...
It's called engine breaking and a slipper clutch... When was the last time you had a ZX14R out on a real race track at 160+? That's a lot of mass to bring down to speed, when you have to scrub off 100+ MPH to enter a turn. Rather than just cook my brakes, I use all that big engine's compression to help slow me down... If you want to show me your ZX14R track footage and educate me, let's have at it. ;-)
I own and track a 2014 ZZR1400 performance sport.. if you want to cook your clutch, and rely heavily on a slipper clutch... ( real name is a Back Torque Limiter) that's designed to stop the back wheel locking up when you change down with a high Torque load on the engine and clutch, who am I to correct you.. but. Take a listen to the professionals when they're doing what you're doing and you'll hear the rev matching.. its not done for fun or just to sound nice. There's a reason for it. You actually get more engine braking when you rev match and you dont unsettle that 280kg monster. Every time you change down without rev matching at high rpm high Torque load you drastically alter the state of the bike. The suspension is rocked back to front for a start.. think about it.. if you didn't have the slipper clutch what would happen?? The back wheel would lock up wouldn't it, that's why we have slipper clutches. They work well but they're not the whole answer.. so when you change down like that you're NOT getting front end braking where it needs to be to enlarge the contact patch of your front wheel... what you get is effectively back wheel breaking for a split second until the technology realises you'vefucked up and helps you out.. even the youngest greenest noob rider knows you never allow back end braking at high rpm/Torque, unless it's trail braking into the apex.. no offence was intended by my comment, sorry you took it.
@@01rockape well, I am blipping the throttle, but all my other bikes have quick shifters and auto blip... so going back and forth from bike to bike, I might be a little out of the habit of doing it. I am blipping the throttle but not entirely matching revs, that's true. Didn't seem to cause any issues. It's a 2022 model but it's way behind on electronics... normally I am just banging down gears without the clutch and letting the ecu sort things out...
Just watched it again... Few wonky shifts, but overall what I was doing was fine. I am blipping the throttle on almost every downshift... It was first time on track with that heavy rocket ship and its a bit of a handful out there... The stock tires weren't great either, the back kept spinning up on some corner exits... Couple times I went to shift without the clutch, forgetting that this bike doesn't have a quickshifter. haha
Lol.. we've all done it. But when you knock off the ZZR1400..ZX14R rider aids, namely the traction control .. it becomes a lot less forgiving. Its really a 212bhp, 215mph bronco that'll throw you off and fuck off down the track on its own quite happily. Lmfao. The reason the industry brought in the quick shifter, which was taken from the pro racers, was because riders in general do not know how to change gear properly.. so, first the slipper clutch to stop that back end locking up when some idiot goes from 6th to 2nd on the apex, then the quick shifter with auto blip ( rev match). It takes the skill out of riding the bike at high speed, and even on normal surface roads but it's what riders want now. They want it easy. They want to ride a bike, not be bike rider.. and there's a huge difference between the two. So the industry decided that riders liking themselves because they didn't know how to ride properly wasn't good for business. So they start bolting on every rider aid and safety measure they can throw at it.. but even with the quick shifter the auto blip is there for a reason. At high revs you get a lot more engine braking of you rev match. Reason, you match engine and gearbox speed so your engine braking starts at the higher revs.. not, at say... 5000 before the slipper clutch raises it to what it should be at say.. 8500.. plus the chassis stays heavy on the front wheel where you need that enlarged contact patch, not rocked backwards to rear tyre which is liable to lockup, whilst the front gets lighter and is more likely to just give out and slide away from you. I learned the revs between each gear by riding normal roads in a low gear.. say.. 3rd... get up to 60mph then change down. On the zx14r you can take 2nd all the way to over 80mph and still change down to 1st one you learn the rev differences.. then... you're question gets answered.. the zx14r..ZZR1400 in the uk becomes light as a feather and is a dream to ride. It takes track days in its stride. Sure you'll get the RR's biting your arse in corners of they're good, but nothing beats the zx14r out of the bend and down the straight.. its still the fastest accelerating 4 pot on the planet. Enjoy the bike my friend. It'll be the best mistress you'll ever have.

To be fair to the camera, thats beyond heat. Youre a darker shade of red than the awning.
Dude, it was like 96 degrees that day and humid... and the temps coming off the parking lot were over 100... it was brutal...
To be fair, some of the red on my face was the red light coming FROM the awning... We didn't make it the whole day, I came home early and we jumped in the pool...
@@Daves_Man_Cave Given the difficult conditions, you did a sterling job. Your lines looked clean and consistent. No mean feat given the size of the old girl, and on a relatively incompatible track. Thanks for taking the time to film and upload your experience. I greatly enjoyed it.
@@Trickshot72 Thanks, it was a hot and miserable day, but the track time I got, was fun. I have some other track day footage on the channel from earlier in the year that you can check out.
