The 3 dimples you identified where you cut the muffler is indeed the factory location for cutting the pipe and using the butt clamp. You are actually meant to cut on the middle dimple and you'd have a perfectly fitting muffler. The same method is used across the entire VW group and it's basically in place for when you need to replace a muffler. For example, on dual rear muffler VW group vehicles these 3 dimples will be present on both sides. Cheers!
Those bends/marking on the pipes are intentional. Can look it up in the repair manual (if you have access to one), it means that if you ever need to change that part of the exhaust the middle marking is where you should do the cutting.
Did he cut to the front of that middle dimple which is why his gap is a little big? It's hard to tell in the video, but it looks like he might cut to the rear of the middle dimple, which is weird because the gap is big. I know lining it up and visually checking is best, but it would have been great if he said "I cut 1 cm upstream of the middle dimple" (or whatever).
Nice OEM upgrade. Sounds much better. Gotta love the pops and backrap. Should've fired it up with no muffler too. I think that's pretty much mandatory everytime I build my own exhaust or swap for another. I really like the mk8 display and cluster. Looks very modern but still simple enough to read. Keep up the great work.👍

Wow I didn’t know this part existed. As I did a walk around on the latest MK8, I said exactly this. The tips would looks much nicer if they were oval shaped and slashed cut. And you sir, have done exactly just that. Looks amazing!
This automotive engineer's opinion. I was young once and changed every exhaust on all the performance cars I owned. Not any more. A waste of time and money and every louder exhaust has a trade off of harshness at some interval of RPM and load. This is better than most because it is an optional factory muffler but again, a fair amount of money with the price of German factory parts and very similar to the stock muffler as you note. Increase in depth of tone under load isn't something a driver wants anyway in daily driving. Nice video though and you do a nice job. Thanks PS. what I have learned over the years about exhausts. A quieter car overall is more enjoyable because you can wring its neck, be up on the cam and closer to redline without drawing attention of the police. Same with motorcycles for those that enjoy performance on two wheels and have a need for speed. Further, for non-spirited driving, a stock exhaust is less obnoxious to live with day in. Young people learn this after their 5th modded performance car. Some lessons in life take a while. 😉
Can confirm this x 100. I own a 16” 320i. Exhaust is not even loud and sporty driving is really fun and the rear goes if you force it to. My lil bro has a 13” S3. 300hp with stock exhaust. It was fun driving till the fucking exhaust was giving me headache by just cruising. I cant imagine other cars with custom exhaust being fun to cruise along in. Sleeper cars are also more fun because people dont expect anything of it.
@@buraksarikaya9798 That's why in Germany every exhaust system is not really louder than the original one, it just sounds different. Every legal one at least.
I installed a custom catback thankfully and I mean it, it is valved, i remember driving 3 hours with the valves open I got a headache, when the valves are closed, it is quieter than when it was stock, basically sounds like a vacuum cleaner.
