    Great video Phil. Bummed I missed you and Seth out there would have like to meet you guys ... I did get the chance to meet Seth out at GFT ... would be killer if next time you where down in Fl you came and checked out GrapeFruit Trails

  • @robwasnj

    I wish I was down there to see you doing those jumps on a full sized mountain bike, nice riding. I go down there most every January to to just ride the trails, heaps of fun compared to enduring a NJ winter. If you're in FL and haven't checked out Alafia River or Balm Boyette both of those are also really fun albeit without a huge jump area like Vortex.

      +robwas I will have to keep that in mind for next year. A few others recommended those same places.

    1) Video should be called why you should be [like] Phile Kmetz.
    2) My local trek store convinced me I need the fuel for south Florida riding as I would never need a Remedy's suspension. Lying SOB's. My EX8 black and red color scheme me is pretty nice though. It was definitely what won't me over (nearly identical to 9.9)
    3) Is your Remedy a 29er or 27.5?
    Thanks Phil! Hope I can ride/keep up with you one day.

    • @Specter1031
      @Specter1031 8 років тому

      Actually looks like you have a pike so it must be the 27.5. 29er is only available with fox forks. And coming from the old 26" remedy I am sure it was a more comfortable jump than to 29"

    • @SkillsWithPhil
      @SkillsWithPhil  8 років тому

      +Specter1031 You're correct. It's the 27.5 version. I like the versatility of 27.5s though you can do quite a bit with 29ers.

    hey phil, i have a few pumptrack questions. i want to build a nice small one near my house in a nice spot, and was wondering if i can just dig up dirt from the ground for it, or if i need to buy special dirt (if so, what kind)? also, should i keep a tarp over the pile of dirt if i end up getting it to keep it dry, or does it not matter?Thanks, and awesome videos!

    • @SkillsWithPhil
      @SkillsWithPhil  8 років тому

      +Jordan Keeler Yes you can but you need to be mindful of drainage. Building on a slight hillside is a good start. Also native dirt is hit or miss in terms of quality and sometimes saturated with rocks. Depending on where you live, you might get lucky. When I build a PT, i try to maximize dirt by building as much as possible with the native soil. I'll build the base with native soil and then finish the rest with imported stuff.
      Best of luck my friend!

    • @jordankeeler7297
      @jordankeeler7297 8 років тому

      Thanks so much, sounds good. Regarding drainage, is putting the PT on a camber like in your PT restoration series enough, or is there anything else i should do? Loving the collabs w/ seth btw!

      +McBen325 I drove 7000 miles (11 000km) last summer to go mountain biking in the Rockies (British Columbia and Alberta, Canada)... Seriously, I made many trips in my life (i'm 29) but this one was just amazing... So, I return to the same place on May 6. Can't wait :) This is also a really nice road trip to do with my brother

      +McBen325 Ya !! And not that expensive... about 1200$ US (each) for three weeks. We were sleeping in campgrounds and had an economical Toyota Matrix. Seriously, do it :)

    • @robwasnj
      @robwasnj 8 років тому

      +mpgt Agreed that camping is the way to go, last trip we did 3 weeks (a friend and myself) and total trip cost was around 2500 but that included a few hotels on weekends when it was impossible to find camping. Camping is 20 to 30 dollars a day in most full facility FL campgrounds.
