Watching this made me go back and watch the BBC documentary Songbird. In the programme not only do ex members of Chicken Shack verify the story of spotting her in the shop window but she even confirms it herself.

I recalled that documentary too, if it's a fictional tale Christine does a good job of selling it. There's a few other comments in here that contradict quotes I've read from Christine herself... interesting interview but a lot of this feels like stories being told through a game of telephone.

I bought the BBC documentary "Songbird" as well. I remember Stan Webb, Andy Sylvester, and Christine all verifying this story.
This lady is nice enough, but some of the things she's saying don't add up or aren't true at all.

Sounds like a most interesting book and I look forward to reading it. The thing that's always fascinated me about Christine McVie is how when Buckingham and Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac she seemed to up her game as a singer, songwriter and a musician and in fact went on to contribute as many hits to the band as a writer and singer as the other two put together, as their Greatest Hits compilations bear testament.

It really sounds like it's Another fabulous book by Lesley-Ann Jones , and Christine McVie deserves to have a memoir of her own, to celebrate her fantastic years in music, and so many stories throughout her life .. Looking forward to reading it when it arrives next Month.

How Christine McVie saw Fleetwood Mac and the real reason she left them - by Lesley-Ann Jones 2248pm 7.10.24 you're right... another era beset with another era's baggage... i am forveer to be found in no man's land.... this means nothing tome as that would mean nothing to me..... slack arses and bad grammer and bad journalism is where this is all heading to. get a grip, old men... i often wondered if seasoned old mucker slike you took a bit of umbrage form your lessers. seems you may.... get sex swing on your show... interview that band. the ned album is pretty much suggesting music needs to be nusic... ie: compositions written as opposed to spliced...

Christine left Fleetwood Mac in 1995. Stevie had already left (in 1990). Dennis Wilson died in 1983. Christine left because the band had folded by end of 1995. The shop window story is true btw and she married John in haste because her mother was terminally ill. She'd initially had her eye on Peter Green.....

Also, in interview in 2017, Christine said she was friends again with them all, and that they'd all grown up, that she had 'renewed her vows' to them all

The bit about Christine leaving FM because she found out Stevie had an affair with Dennis Wilson doesn't make any sense. Dennis died in 1983. Christine didn't sell her LA house, car, etc. and leave the band and move to England until 1998.

I was going to say this. Christine was already married to Eddie Quintella, with whom she wrote Little Lies on Tango In The Night when she left the band, if Stevie had a fling with him it would make sense but Dennis was long dead.

    • @nigeltant
      @nigeltant 2 місяці тому +5

The only way it makes sense is if she found out much later and only then left the band, but this seems very unlikely given the amount of time that had passed, and that wasn’t the implication in the interview. Very odd. I’m surprised David and Mark didn’t pick up on it.

Dennis Wilson lied & said he had an affair with Stevie Nicks; it did not happen. Christine developed a fear of flying, her father had just passed away, she was 55 and wanted to restore his house & live in the English countryside. She got bored, got treatment, then Mick sat with her on a flight to Hawaii when she felt ready. It's all in his latest book, "Play On."

Thank you thank you thank you. I picked up on this immediately and my mind is still boggling.
It wasn’t the only detail that wasn’t quite on the nail either. Even to the band still performing her songs without her. They didn’t. “Don’t stop” always. And one tour they performed “say you love me” as a duet.
I’d love someone to iron out that reason for why she left 🧐

I’m calling BS, in the 2019 Christine herself said that either Andy or Sylvester knocked on the window of Dickins and Jones while she was window dressing and asked her in that timeframe if she would like to join Chicken Shack. This book seems really poorly researched.

What, another Fleetwood Mac book? I've just read Mark Blake's excellent 'The many lives of Fleetwood Mac', and Christine McVie features a great deal, and possibly comes out of that as the best of the bunch (except for the crazy Dennis Wilson episode, and staying up 3 nights doing coke and nearly having a heart attack). I'll probably have to give this Lesley-Ann Jones one a miss, to avoid the duplication.

Liz Taylor betrayed best friend Debbie Reynolds when she had an affair with Eddie Fisher, Debbie's husband at the time.
Later they were reconciled while travelling on the Queen Mary...apparently.

Men in music can screw 10 women a night. Stevie is honest but gets creamed for being single and doing as she pleased, just as the men in rock and roll. It's just stupid. The songs she gave us mean more than her love life. Leave her alone.
