The historical losses due to landslides and the fate of the affected houses are particularly sad. El Niño events and the so-called King Tides in particular play a decisive role in exacerbating erosion. Japan has had many active faults since ancient times, and many lives have been lost due to major earthquakes and tsunamis. We need to be prepared to evacuate at all times. Hi Mike, thank you for the well-researched and professionally presented coastal erosion update. We have a similar problem in our home county of Norfolk, UK. Many homes have fallen into the sea, which is very sad.
This is so well done Mike. You really captured the essence of what is happening to those bluffs where I once lived. No matter how many times I see the erosion it's just shocking that land overlooking the ocean for a thousand years is now gone in 40 years. It appears that having plenty of rocks below helps some areas. Then there is the argument that the rocks put pressure on the sides as water is diverted. Thank you for your video.

Hi Mike. I've seen this landscape before in your videos, and the houses built on the cliffs look like they're in imminent danger of collapsing due to erosion. I'm also concerned that the waves are overflowing onto the roads, but California, like Japan, is an area that experiences many earthquakes. Great update, Mike! It's always stuck me as odd how people would build so close to the edge of bluffs. I learned about erosion in grade school, so to me, it always seemed silly to build in such a place. Also, under hills or mountains, landslides freak me out! I do enjoy staying places with a great coastal view, I suppose it's better to rent that good view every now and then 😊 Thanks for sharing
The bluffs extended much further at the time the homes, roads, and apartments were built. I made a video using old aerial photos of the shoreline from years ago when the land went out further. I really hope Pacifica and the state can find better solutions.
Sadly the erosion is destructive but I enjoyed seeing this as a change to all the Fires in Cali at this time! Stay safe my Friend, things are changing and it's not for the better

Errosion and floods are awful, many of our coastline suffers with that in the UK. I do feel sorry for those folks whos properties are so close to the risk. I hope you your family and friends are safe from the awful fires that are currently raging in California.

That must be so difficult for property owners dealing with this erosion issue. Those are some dramatic cliffs caused by the coastal erosion.
