Yeah and thats the problem. Arnie walked the line perfectly of how much muscle his body could carry before starting to look absolutely ridiculous (and he looked best when he wasn't at his biggest). Most pro body builders these days are so far over that line.
    Bigger isn't better.

Gotta agree with Arnold on this one. Today's Bodybuilding is about packing muscles on top of muscles on top of muscles. The common theme is ''Get Bigger''. Back in Arnold's day and beyond, it was about getting big muscles of course but it also included sculpting and shaping your body to a certain shape. There was control and finesse in the muscle growth.

exactly. sure, people like and want to look 'big', but they also want to look shredded and look/feel healthy, not look not-natural on stage. If these Mr Olympia winners of today are winners in that guy's eyes and his answer is that bodybuilding has evolved, then what has it evolved into? A winning sport? Or one where it's obvious to the casual and hardcore eyes that those guys don't look good on stage. They're the same type of massbuilders who don't live to see 50 because how 'bodybuilding has evolved' has also killed them. I'm sure that guy didn't think of that logic and it's painfully true. Arnold had one of the best bodies EVER, and he looked healthy and he didn't look like a balloon. I would not call it an evolution I'd call it a devolution. Arnold was in my opinion among the last of the greats. By his time bodybuilding had been taken to it's natural limit. Arnold was aesthetic, but still massive at 240-250lbs. That was the peak, the pinnacle of what the human body can achieve. From then on, and especially from the early 90s on, there was nowhere else to go but into the freak territory, sacrificing aesthetics in the name of ever more extreme bodies.
To go with the racing analogy, Usain Bolt can run 100 metres in something like 9.6 seconds, and sure someone might come along do 9.599, but no one is going to run 100m in 5 seconds unless they're a cyborg. You reach a certain point where you have achieved all that that which is human can achieve, and to go past that is to stop being human. I would not consider that a gain.

Less people will watch it and in the end less sponsorship money. Ask most people at the gym they dont want to be super huge anymore. Its offputting. They just want to be fit.
