    I don't know if you know the man who started T.Hoff Charles but he is one really cool, nice, old hot rodder. He is an air cooled vw head and he has quite the collection of other cool stuff. He has a field full of old air cooled VWs and has built some pretty wild engines in his day!

    Tip: it's a great idea to change those oil cooler seals on all these engines every 100k miles or so. Twice, I've had those seals get hard and crack and lose a lot of oil. The first time cost me an engine in my Audi 4000.

    Your videos are awesome. I really like how you teach technique and different methods for repair using new products. I definitely learn something new about Volkswagen cars every time i see a new video. Thank you for all of your hard work with this channel.

    Interesting to hear about the common failures of those crank sensors! My VR6's crank sensor died several years back, actually before I owned the car (used to be a customer car!). The harness was fine; the sensor had just started going open-circuit. I could still get a signal off it on the scope, but it was 10 ohms over the high side of the published acceptable range. Probably one of my most iffy calls on a part.

    I was able to get fairly deep into a vr6 a couple years ago thanks to those damn timing chain guides...of course while in the vehicle but man that is a sweet motor in a GTI :)

    These motors seem to be pretty sturdy haha enough for me to run my boost expansion starter pack 😂

    I don't know how you can keep up. I only do UA-cam and can barely stay with the videos. Since I don't own a German car I'll skip ahead but I wanted to say "Well done" on all you work.

      +wyattoneable thank you! It's tough but i truly love doing it. I'll have a shorter more clean version of the video out soon. One with the big boy camera lol

    I heard someone asked about slicing hoses off.
    I try to avoid slicing hoses as if you cut to deep you can score the pipe connector and that can lead to problems down the road.

      THANK YOU ! This was almost unwatchable backwards, I'm barely familiar with these engines and seeing everything in reverse is quite confusing.

    Hey there humble mechanic, I'm very curious how does an oil cooler fail? Isn't just the seals that fail?

    • @HumbleMechanic
      @HumbleMechanic  7 років тому +2

      +PalomarWater it leaks internally and causes oil to get into the coolant.

      +Peter Riis it's recorded with my IPhone on "selfie mode". I did that for FB live so I can see when people ask questions. I didn't even think to switch it in post. Part 2 and 3 are fixed.
