  • Professional longarm quilter and pantograph designer Kathie James shares her "no math, no measuring, no spacing, no grid" method for pantograph quilting. She has quilted nearly 1500 quilts this way, and reveals how to save time, save money, and produce a quilt that's quilted beautifully and evenly from edge to edge every time. The demonstration is on her Gammill Classic, but this method works for any longarm or midarm machine including APQS, Nolting, A-1 etc. Her pantographs are featured at columbiariverquilting.com under Roll Patterns, and her embroidery and redwork patterns can be found on grabngokits.com under Redwork.

I just got my new juki tl200, and I have procrastinated on starting an actual quilt, I found this video and it has given me the confidence to get started. I am a "show me" person, and Kathy, you do a great job of showing us how to do this. Most people don't do much sewing and handling of the actual quilt, Mmy hat is off to you! You make this seem so easy and I have bought several of your pantographs to help me out. I wish you had a class that I could go to,( I am in Tennessee). Thanks so much again.

I enjoyed your video. I love the idea of no math! I love the partial row at the top of a quilt. Sorry to hear your retired but I bet your still quilting for yourself. Thanks for helpful hints. I hope I can still buy your patterns.

Thanks for asking, Rhonda! I just retired to South Carolina, sold my Gammill and don't teach any more. There are many great teachers at MQX, perhaps you could check the instructor list and see if any are near you? Sorry I couldn't help more, but I hope you got a few useful tips from my video.

Thank you for this great video, Kathie. I am a new long arm user. I recently purchased your Nouveau Gingko pattern and tried it today. Unfortunately I got lost on how to find my place after advancing the quilt. I quilted the partial row and 1st and 2nd row. Now I need to start with the middle row and was not able to determine how to find that place. Do you have more specific instructions in writing?

Hi Kathie, I have bought about 4 of your paper patterns. I would love to buy the Chocolate Swirl Feather as a digital. Is that available and where can I find it? Columbia River Quilting website is no more.
I really love your stippling pattern too. Thanks.
