Nice George, i love the UHQR, it's a work of passion, devotion, and ultimate respect for the music that's how i look at them that someone actually gave a damn i am sending you a bat bump brother. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
George, thanks for the video, just subscribed from watching you on Michael 45, really pleased I came over. I admire your take on this record, as a piece of music and the UHQR. I admire your take on feeling humbled in front of something, I had a moment like that with Tubular Bells 2 when I was a teenager on an old sony amp and speakers with a crappy cd player hooked up. I’ve had it several times since. I’m 46 and got into analogue only in the last 6 years but quickly got sucked into audiophile pressings. I really want this UHQR even though I’m not greatly into jazz, I have the full belief my tastes will grow as I age and I want these incredible AAA cuts that I don’t think will be able to get later on in life either due to cost or the tapes being compromised. Great video.
Thank you for the kind words and the comment. Even that crappy cd had the goods at the time 😂. We all need to keep growing and expanding our tastes and I look forward to doing that with you and all of us that care.
Best non-record review, non-shootout, your humility is addictive and your grateful nod to those with the balls to take on this remastered beauty (AS) I really hope the other record review personalities in the VC take your lead ….🙌🏽
my dog’s not an audiophile, he gets excited about the stooges for some reason. you made an eloquent personal case for ALS on the stream (as well as on this video), piquing my interest in giving it a deep listen. thanks for that, George. Cheers.
Hi George Greetings from the UK. I found you via the Michael 45RPM Video and was intrigued to watch this video. I enjoyed your “homage” to the ALS. I don’t have any versions of the record. Though l have quibbled about purchasing the UHQR version. Your homage has pushed me further towards buying it. Great video. Thank you. 🎶❤️🎶
@@ghborden a prayer to lead us in, the intense rush leading to a baptism of fire from Elvin, to the lull and peace with oneself. Everytime I listen to this record, it changes a little bit of my DNA.
Good video, George. It’s funny - my dog rolls over into his back and closes his eyes I obvious joy when I play The Messiah at Christmas time. I swear you remind me so much of Richard Dreyfus!
I caught you on Michael45s video discussing this release. You remind me so much of a good friend who is also an engineer. He’s a genius in my book so that’s a compliment! Your commentary on music is very contagious and inspiring.
Very beautiful description of this powerful piece of music. Yours is a powerful statement that what is most important about this album is the spirit within the music. That is, Coltrane truly giving himself to Allah Supreme. I'm fortunate to have a mono original of ALS. An album that both humbles and repairs the soul.
@@ghborden good question. Never heard the stereo. Had a chance to purchase a beautiful mono A77 before Covid when the prices were not so crazy. Only copy I have ever owned. Pure luck that I stumbled upon it. But I will say that the mono sounds natural, organic, balanced, detailed and …beautiful. ALS is the only Coltrane album I own other than Ascension (Well…I did get the Live in Seattle). IMO these three albums are the sound of an artist setting his soul free. No commercial concerns. No compromise. Appreciate your show. Thank you. Shawn.
"Personal testimony", now that's how you talk about a record that really means something to you. Well done! I only started my journey into jazz a few years ago and ALS is the only record that has proven to be a challenge for me. Maybe I need to listen to it more often.
I’m just saw this for some reason. Is this really you? I love your channel man. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. You do some of the best videos on UA-cam about music and records and all of this stuff we talk about.
Enjoyed listening to your take. What I think most audiophiles miss is the simple enjoyment of the music. I’m thinking that may not be the case with you.
As a man of faith, I can tell you that music inspired by God is the best music ever made. Coltrane is showing us "the way, the truth, and the life" through music. It's about redemption, struggle, and ultimate happiness through God's infinite love. Gospel music delivers the same message and soul satisfaction. I only wish John had lived long enough to see his masterpiece be deemed a classic, but only the good die young, and we're left to admire their achievements.
It's also known that dogs can tell the difference between a digitally cut album vs an analog cut one. The great thing about those dogs is they can walk themselves for their daily walk and pick up their own shit. They also eat out of solid gold dog bowls.
I can't afford this kind of thing, but I make do with what I've got. That's one of the reasons I'm all for hi-res digital files of old 78, 33 & 1/3, or 45s.
This makes me want to spend more time with this record and I intend to do that. Side note - is that a Shure SM7b? Rich, clear tones George👍🏻. Have been pondering some set-up changes for my vids. Cheers
It is a 7b. It is my favorite dynamic mic of all time. If I could only choose one mic for anything, it would be this. I have recorded everything with it. Drums, guitar, bass, vocals..everything.
If we are going to call A love supreme a prayer or spiritual moment, then the digital format is the best and 45 the worst, simply because we don't get up during a prayer or spiritual moment, specially not 3 times.
I have no God, I am not religious. Over decades (I am 70 and infinitely nearer to the end) I have collected thousands of albums covering many genres. This is a personal opinion but it is the only album I can describe as being ‘spiritual’ and perhaps on another level to all other albums. For non-jazz lovers this is not an album which is easy to listen to, it is extremely intricate. When you do appreciate it the reward is intense.
Okay, stumbled on you via the Love Supreme UHQR, love your authenticity. I’ve subscribed.

Thanks George. Yes, what makes ALS so good is the spirituality of it. You can hear/feel the struggle, truth and faith coming through the music.
