The 100 page chapter was definitely a standout of The Pale King! Although there is another long chapter more towards the end which was absolutely flooring and some of DFW’s best writing ever.
I don't know how I feel about suddenly given the reader a long chapter. I try to avoid it in my own writing and has had some bad experiences with it (or kinda broke Novigian Wood). Reading is going great, and I'm still on track to finish I am a cat this weekend. It will be hard, but, as always. The hunt continues.
I think the only rule that always matters applies here, too: just don’t do anything that doesn’t work. If you can make it work, it isn’t against the rules
Finished Stephen King's The Waste Land yesterday, knocking out the last 100 pages. Really great, you should check out The Dark Tower series if you haven't. Started reading Musashi today, but the writing style isn't as interesting as King's. Might try to read the next book in King's TDK series side-by-side with this.
I managed to read about 80 pages. Currently reading The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara and a Swedish book (the title roughly translates to “People Like You Shouldn’t Be Here”). Really liking The People in the Trees! It’s beautifully written and interesting. Kind of makes me want to re-read A Little Life.
I finished Giovanni's Room and The Pearl...but now I'm in stuck in the mud. I cannot make up my mind on what book to read next. It's like I finished a series on Netflix and now I'm having an existential crisis. Why must reading lists be so long?
@@RyanRabid A marvelous things occurred yesterday that put an end to my dilemma. I visited a Half-Priced Books store to kill time before I headed out to Six Flags. I browsed the books to see if anything appealed to me since they didn't have Against the Day by Pynchon. My girlfriend was sitting in a semi-lounge area and I browsed the vintage editions there. I found Cannery Row and The Grapes of Wrath, so I thought that was awesome. But that wasn't the end of it. I have been trying to get my hands on the whole series of Remembrance of Things Past with the same translation and have not had any luck. This time, however, I sat down in front of my girlfriend and just as I stopped looking at her to look at books in a cart beside her I saw all seven volumes for five dollars! I could not believe it. I almost screamed. So, I now have something to read for the next couple of months. Happy Endings.
Whenever I think of The Pale King, the first part to come to mind is always that "You're watching As the World Turns" section of that huge chapter.
I. Love. That. Section. I read it twice just to absorb as much of it as I could.

That chapter in the pale king is like the best one
Couldn’t agree more.

I’ve actually started The Dark Tower before but had to put it down due to time constraints! I loved what I read!

I picked up the Crying of Lot 49 on my kindle...It's my first intro to Pynchon. I'm on the third chapter now. damn it's dense.
Dense is right :) keep after it!!

It’s true :( there’s too much to read and too little time to do it
