Only a fool wouldn't give ilia a chance against volk at any stage. This was always going to end this way, ilia is too good and too young, Alex is shopworn but wouldve had a much better chance if ilia was his first or second title defense instead of his sixth
Bobby vs Costa was one of those fights, in the middle of round 2, I just relaxed back into my seat to admire the fight. You knew you are watching a classic live. It was a rare treat. It doesn't matter who won.
When volk started backing up after Ilia started one of his combos I saw he had his arms kinda low and thought "fuck he's gonna get caught later", then Ilia threw a right cross immediately after volk backed off a bit and thought that if volk doesn't change that it's gonna be trouble. Then he got backed up against the cage and bam ko. Seeing that left me so stunned.
I was impressed by ilia's head movement from x to y. It's clean. He was very patient with his strikes in this match. He waited for volk to clinch then struck him with a right hook.

Feels bad to see Volk's title reign end with him getting finished by KO after his quest for double champ status also ended with him getting finished albeit by TKO. Time really catches up to everyone, and Volk coming back in a short span of time after getting finished by Islam in a short-notice fight, as well as that draining weight cut back to featherweight, just proved too much for the human body to handle. I transitioned from kickboxing to Olympic boxing. From day one, the coach was annoying me with leaning back. Today, I understand why. In boxing, it’s normal for advanced punchers to throw combos without being outbalanced (Topuria). In the transition, I was normally caught with combos, even on 20% sparring. So imagine… on real fights. Besides that, hands are faster than kicks to land. Our legs have more muscle and weight, and waste more energy than punch. When Volka was kicking, Topuria was already inside is distance. Topuria trains Olympic boxing on a great gym in spain. His head-coach is super smart.

For instance, the body leans forward and they give at max 1 step trying to do a 6 combo with their hands (loose balance). Athletes that actually train boxing, they walk as they punch: Topuria, Petr Yan, Max holloway, Alex poatan. Other folks like Volkanovsky and Israel Adesanya, even being very good in general striking... when you frame only their boxing, you'll see in general that they throw always 1-2.

100% it's just so stacked,, young blood always on the up,,,, it really does hurt changing of the guard,,, but it's just evolution of the sport,,,, I was so worried for Volk,,, just believed he could work out his opponent every time.... the best heavy weights get a soft jaw after a couple nasty knock outs... the hardest sport to compete
Bro THANK YOU for saying that about Ian's counter striking. Baffles me the majority doesn't seem to see it that way. Same with a lot of Izzy fights. Fighters who are literally backing up running away the entire time making their opponent literally chase them should have a point deducted for stalling.

Feels bad to see Volk's title reign end with him getting finished by KO after his quest for double champ status also ended with him getting finished albeit by TKO. Time really catches up to everyone, and Volk coming back in a short span of time after getting finished by Islam in a short-notice fight, as well as that draining weight cut back to featherweight, just proved too much for the human body to handle. I'm not gonna lie, I wanted and predicted Volk to win, but looks like the future is now and the new generation is taking over the featherweight throne, congrats to Ilia Topuria for an awesome KO finish.

I transitioned from kickboxing to Olympic boxing. From day one, the coach was annoying me with leaning back. Today, I understand why. In boxing, it’s normal for advanced punchers to throw combos without being outbalanced (Topuria). In the transition, I was normally caught with combos, even on 20% sparring. So imagine… on real fights. Besides that, hands are faster than kicks to land. Our legs have more muscle and weight, and waste more energy than punch. When Volka was kicking, Topuria was already inside is distance. Topuria trains Olympic boxing on a great gym in spain. His head-coach is super smart.

Hi@@isaact2452 , people struggle to throw 4-6 combo with hands because they don't walk as they punch. For instance, the body leans forward and they give at max 1 step trying to do a 6 combo with their hands (loose balance). Athletes that actually train boxing, they walk as they punch: Topuria, Petr Yan, Max holloway, Alex poatan. Other folks like Volkanovsky and Israel Adesanya, even being very good in general striking... when you frame only their boxing, you'll see in general that they throw always 1-2.

It’s Illias torque and combos plus his massive skill sets in all area that made him a better fighter last night than Volk, whose a true legend and will never be forgotten.
Illia just pulls too much pow 💥 from the ground up and sees it through so well with agility and speed that non one in his division has right now.
If you watch his fights before UFC you’ll also see some sick ground game that’s gonna make it hard on anyone with the exception of Khabibs team.
I’ve been saying all week Illia will make it easy cause Volk rushed in after the last KO too quick to fight again. He needed a lot of time off to recalibrate. But he went out on his sword 🫡
