    It's a common misconception on the W140's that they posses "bullet proof" glass. What it has is "double glazed windows". The purpose is sound deadening.
    While there certainly are some W140's on the market that had bullet proofing, the odds of you ever seeing one for sale in your lifetime are close to zero.

      that's interesting. i didn't even know that the glass was thick or the glass blocked sound.

      Titus Pitman I don't know a whole lot about them myself and even I knew that. I did find it odd how the outer piece of glass is shaped a bit different though. I'll hazard a guess and say it was so the window could fit in the top of the door better...?

      2 glasses with a vacuum chamber between them can isolate form heat and sound.

    the w140 is an absolute masterpiece. it's beautifully well built and it's very nice. it's funny how its paint and lights last much longer than any daimlerchrysler era mercs. if i were to buy one i'd go for the 600sel/s600.

    Detailed one of these last year. I had to pick it up from the garage which is about 15 miles from my house and holy crap I felt like the king of iran lol

    I don't think it's bulletproof glass. It's just double-laminated to reduce road noise and the vacuum in-between prevents them from fogging or something like that.

    My favorite S-Class! I was intrigued by these when I was a child, 20 years later and these cars still have a presence to them.

    you put that car in limp mode when you revved it under the hood,the ecu notices the pedel isn't being pressed and now the throttle body is in limp mode.you must never touch the pedal when you start that car either only use the key.when you shut the car off remove key and re-start it the limp mode should be cleared

    One of the more memorable cars from my childhood back in the 90's along with the Mercedes W124, BMW e34 and e38, and the Volvo 850 and 700/900 series. But I always remember how solid they were,the Mercedes, than any other car I've ridden in when I was a kid. The way the door slams, the firm clicks of the window switch, the smell, and that stable ride.I could go on and on, but they really made a great impression on me that the new ones haven't.

    The older Mercs are just sublime... You just don't get this sort of engineering in cars today.

    It (interior material quality) was actually a top rated quality car for its time, but so was the Camry and Accord that year. I think most of these had the interior (dash board) age quickly because they were all black and they absorbed a lot of heat, causing it to age faster. I have a '93 400SEL and it is still totally rattle free and no warping, etc. It has been garaged since new however.

    Those are the best seats in a car. Very firm and supportive but you'll actually be more comfortable in long trips and not feel so fatigued . The cup holder has always been an after thought on German cars cause most people don't drink beverages on the autobahn

    If I was to ever own a W140 like this I'd take one of the later models in black with tan leather and throw on those AMG 5 spoke monoblock rims. Would tint up the windows too. Beastly old cars.

    Bulletproof glass was on the options list for the W140. Commonly ordered for diplomats' cars. Now you know :)

    No the lights weren't working. On MB cars the headlights don't have to be on. Also the vanity lights for the rear seat mirrors were working when he showed them.

    Then sell it to someone who will repair it and lovingly take care of it. These W140s can be a nightmare if you get your hands on a neglected one but buying a half decent or mint one won't cost that much to run considering these cars in mint condition cost less than $10k.

    What do you think about the new W222 S-class? I think MB said "the next milestone in luxury cars" or whatever. Basically saying the W222 will be the best s-class to date. The W222 just looks like a face lifted W221. MB better surprise me....lol. great video

    Haha you are funny dude, bullet proof glas, this is double glasing. What kind of bullets can be stoped by 9 milimetre glas? Nerv? Softair? ^^ Normal bullet proof glas is about 3 cm, the better ones are 4-5 and the best are 7-8 cm.

    Too much unnecessary b.s. that can potentially go wrong. Door, trunk, glove compartment, rearview mirror assist!? Since when is it ever remotely difficult to close or adjust any of these?

    • @MrTheMiguelox
      @MrTheMiguelox 10 років тому

      The car is not about what's needed, but wanted. The car was tough for the first owner, winch would sell the car in a few years after buying it. The doors and trunk are powered so u can close them in silence and effortlessly. The rear view mirror just so it could be adjusted and recorded together with the memory seats.

    • @CandySlim501
      @CandySlim501 10 років тому

      MrTheMiguelox but still all of this is just unnecessary extras that could potentially go wrong and cost hundreds or thousands to repair. That $ could be better used on engine, ac or suspension problems IMO. Don't get me wrong I still look at these beautiful baby's every few days or so on craigslist and maybe after more research and confidence will end up w one of em someday.
