I played the first Diablo and maybe a bit of 2, but what I personally found most memorable was the atmosphere. That eternal night filled with foreboding, the feeling of being the only one brave enough to face unspeakable evil, that's what made me keep coming back to it. I played Monkey Island 4 too and I still liked it, even if I did prefer the other games and always used a guide for the monkey combat. It's not as intuitive as the insult swordfighting. :D Did Earthworm Jim really get hit by a flying cow? Did he say "how appropriate, you fly like a cow" when she crashed into him? :D
Yeah, both early Diablos were special. Monkey 4 also had insult armwrestling, so... fun. :) LOL at that Earthworm Jim x Monkey collaboration (in your head). ;)
@@TeaAndFloppyDisks I have (or had) it in Game Pass and even installed it on the console but only spent like an hour or so at it. I think time was the factor here... Or lack there of.
@@OldAndNewVideoGames Yes, I understand. I haven't played it yet either, but heard that it's really good. And it's made by Ron Gilbert, with a bunch of others from the old team too. :)
I played both Diablo way back in the day for many hours and playthroughs and the expansion, and then Diablo II when it released I consider them to be two of the worst games ever because: 1.) they intentionally create an addiction through click-reward habituation programming and 2.) that addiction feeds into a materialistic "always want better items" mindset that pervades into actual life, not just games, plus they set a least-common-denominator standard in gaming that ushered in an entire era of the above-mentioned shallow values and societal decline because of the culture of it all WoW was worse butyeah, great atmosphere in Diablo games, aesthetic and 'snap'
I often do, but not always they're so prominent to worth a mention. I mean, I could write "completed it in a hot summer of 2001, fun game though a bit too long" but that's boring. When I have more to say though, I will. I have some some very personal thoughts about some of these, and these will be included with every single game in the series that will premiere when I'll be away in Japan in October. I'm pre-recording them now in advance, so that there's always something releasing on the channel even when I'm away for 3 weeks. :)

Collin McRae Rally 2.0 was great fun & was an improvement on the first but it’s a little bit too much of a sim for me & gets fatiguing for longer play sessions. Earthworm Jim 3D was a disappointment like you said it wasn’t actually a bad game, it just wasn’t anything special. Shame really. Thief II was fantastic but I don’t remember if you could move faster by hopping like you could in the first? 😄 Really though it wasn’t because there wasn’t much opportunity to cover ground fast but as a sneaky game it was fun & challenging. Escape From Monkey Island was great fun! Arguably not quite as good as the previous 2 & quite ambitious with it’s 3D presentation but I still love it. “Oh yeh, Wizards & Warriors, I”… don’t remember that at all I’m afraid? 😄 Oof! Hitman looks a bit rough by modern standards but perhaps I remember it through rose tinted glasses, to mangle a metaphor? I still feel I should play it again though because it has a lot of substance. Great video. That’s a good mix of games, some I will go back to, some I won’t but all interesting, thanks.
While I liked many of the Rally/WRC games over the years, realistic or not, I never had as much fun as with Screamer 2. Though naturally, I did spend a lot of time at those CMR games too. :) Earthworm Jim 3D's biggest problem was that it was delayed. It could be one of the first, *and* be remembered like that. And instead, it was one of the many. I don't think I've seen a single bad Thief game, and that's saying something! And same can be said about LucasArts' Monkey games. Those made by other companies were all different though. And you know what... Hitman too. All good games. Varying degrees of good, but all good. :) The next will be stacked too! I've already started writing it, but before that, there will be two other videos... Both in two new series. We'll see if any will stick. xD One should be out tonight on Patreon.
Only Hitman game I actually liked. Wizards and Warriors. To be honest, somehow I never heard about it. Trying to find it and try it out. Nowadays games (with few exceptions) aren't worth my time.
so many great games in this one, except that 3D abomination of Monkey Island. I know it's still Monkey Island quality, but the change to 3D was so horrendous, just like every other game that tried to switch to awful quality 3D models away from sprites.
For me diablo 2 is all about dark satanic atmosphere and immersion, almost a horror game. I couldnt stand 3, because for me a rpg genre is a waste of time.
I didn't like 3 either, I do find 4 fun, though end game is hella annoying as getting the top gear requires you making and levelling up numerous characters for which I neither have time or will. Path of Exile though is fantastic, and other than making new players feel a bit lost when seeing how big it is, I've nothing bad to say about it. :)
i hate what diablo has done to rpgs, every game is a looter shooter or has the same leveled generated loot, i wished fallout had influenced rpgs more, now people are losing their minds on baldurs gate 3 because its an actual rpg instead of an action game. Speaking of which, the game is turned based but baldurs gate 1 and 2 were real time because, wait for it, diablo was real time so devs copied that because how can you make a rpg and not be real time? It will be like going backwards. Then you got 3d graphics, because 3d graphics were a thing every rpg had 3d graphics but with the same top down camera but you could move it around this time, so every big budget rpg in the early 2000s was 3d with a stupid camera that bumped into the geometry then you got the small studios where the mid 2000s were filled with diablo clones because every small studio wanted to take a shot at diablo because unlike an actual complex role playing rpg, it was easy to make.
I really loved BG3, but I gotta say, if you wanna dive in and really get into a deep and infinitely replayable CRPG, at least in terms of its thousands of possible unique character builds, Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous is the king! :)
@@arkgaharandan5881 I heard of it, so chances are that I might actually have it. I know, sounds odd, but if something attracts my attention, I usually get it "for later", for when I have time. And some of these games I actually do end up playing, and some keep waiting a bit longer. ;)
Excellent as always! Modern AAA developers should consult your channel to learn what used to make games great(er) 😉
Ha ha ha :) I would much rather have them ask me help them with quest and small story lines, I'd love that.

diablo 2 is boring, stupid and overrated mouse clicking simulator.
NOX was a real pure best of the best action RPG of its era. Sadly many forgot it.
diablo ruined rpgs. Every rpg became a clickfest dungeon crawler or a looter shooter, role playing was thrown out of the window.
