Some that stood out to me is that in the military we call high-vis material, a "signal panel" or "signal device." We would use "flagging" for when someone sweeps their weapon across you, putting you in the line of fire if they have a negligent discharge. Good info as always though, as well as presented in an efficient and interesting way.
Sam, I'd recommend that if possible you consider getting your RN. I was a flight paramedic for 14 years, then the hospital I worked for closed the program. I went to nursing school, got the BSN, and when I retired I was making two times my paramedic income. With your knowledge and background nursing school will be a cake-walk. It was for me.
20 yr Flight Paramedic here. Some good info and insight. I don't agree with everything, but I'm also not in an A-Star. With your locale and terrain, I suggest a signal mirror and a whistle for your PSK. Small and unobtrusive, but potentially lifesaving. Fly safe.
I’m just getting started in my career, the thoughtfulness and usefulness of everything that you shared is incredible! Thanks so much! definitely a subscriber and a advocate of your videos.
Such an informative video for laymen like me to see how professionals like you prepare to help us in trouble. I like the low key humor too..., "I'm a millennial so...,"
Definitely agree with the keeping track of the nice one thing. I’ve had a Rite In The Rain pen for 4 years and carried it every day, whether I’m on a 911 ambulance to teaching to running to the store!
Just wanted to thank you for your service and let you know, you inspired me to apply to be a volunteer firefighter, hopefully learn EMT skills one day.
You should do a video on what got you started to be a medic like your backstory, I appreciate the time you take in your videos not rushing take time explaining and talking about some experiences with your gear
Quick handy tip. Take the cap off your saline flush, drill a small hole through the non-threaded part and put a key ring through it. You can make 2 or 3 and out them on a key ring. You keep the threads clean with the little alcohol caps and they are perfect for hanging onto meds if you didn’t give the full dosage.
"Heaven forbid, I miss an IV"...that made me laugh. I know you have been in the bus and had that pt who absolutely needs access and they have shit for veins. That's when the drill comes out!
Excellent gear, great video. The compass is the last thing you need unless you are flying in no men's land. Always stay near the crash site. You'll have a better chance of being found and survive (geographically site of course) on remote sites.

Wear all leather boots no matter how uncomfortable it may seem. For much better hearing protection, get CEP’s installed in your helmet. They provide superior ear protection and better hearing with your ICS comms.

What PPE do you wear for each patient contact? For instance, standard PPE at the minute in the UK is Apron, Gloves and IIR Mask. AGPs are FFP3 Mask, Visor, Gown/Suit and Gloves.
Gloves and surgical mask for every patient (each patient gets a mask as well). For covid patients we do gloves, N95, eye pro. Can’t do gowns because they are not safe for flight.
RE on body survival kit- consider adding a signal mirror, fox 40 whistle some light like petzl e-light : should fit with little weight penalty - hope u never need it
The lack of signaling is actually semi-intentional. We have a metallic airframe with a transponder beacon on the aircraft along with the ability to make smoke signals or shine our flashlights at night. Don't really need an E-light considering we all carry our own flashlights.
Add 4$ in 1$ bills rubber banded and 4 quarters taped to a old hotel room key. Tape for shelter making and cash when you get stuck in a FBO somewhere related to weather. Got stuck at the Crossville TN FBO for 5 hours coming back from Nashville on a Interfacility transport....no cash on any of us.... That sucked
I’m a new flight RN and was wondering if you could share your pocket guide? I assume it has your local protocols but we’re trying to put something together with ours and I really like the setup you have and would like to see if we could replace the protocols so we have a comprehensive pocket guide
N95 mask, not KN95, is design for surgery which has better blood/fluid streaming proof than regular surgery maskwhich only has N70-80 class respiratory droplets protection.
What is the comm configuration like for the headsets between the pilot, nurse/ paramedic, and patient? Are there separate channels between flight crew (including medics) and patient, or is it one channel for everyone on board and then outboard radios?
