It amazes me how many underrated kids films have magnificent scores. I saw this movie so much as a kid, this is the theme I find myself humming whenever I find myself in a forrest.
I had almost forgotten this movie. All I had left were snippets of images and tunes, but they were like memories of a dream. And then I came across a Nostalgia Critic review of the movie and I was like HOLY SHIT THIS WAS REAL!!!! And in retrospect I should have realized it was James Horner; there is a style and essence to his music that is purely him. To this day I still cry when I listen to "Casper's Lullaby" or "Stealing The Enterprise".
I listen to a lot of metal and goth music, but James Horner soundtracks will always tug at my heartstrings, especially this soundtrack and the An American Tail one.
Loved this movie as a child. Whenever I become a mother someday, I'm showing my kids the classic animations from the 90's and earlier. Those ones were so much better than a lot of the animated films they make today, although there are a few good ones out there now that are a bit newer but the classics are still way better.
I started watching this when I was 3, & for 4 years after, I watched this movie everyday. No matter how many times I watched this, I can remember crying everytime I heard this song (or any of the other songs) or....well, I cried throughout the whole thing. But I was the tough-guy...er...gal, so I always tried to hide it, but my little bro who was the mama's-boy and most likely to cry over anything & everything would catch me crying everytime and laugh. He had no soul. He never cried. Not once.
Way better than his hyped scores for Titanic and Avatar... this has way more soul and interesting parts. Fantastic score! Lots of character and great melodies.
I dont need no big bang theory, no spiderman, no two and a half men. I just need this movie in a endless loop to watch again and again for my whole live.
Anyone else feel like their childhood died when James Horner crashed his plane into the forest, not only killing him but it was a catastrophe that killed all those little forest creatures too. It just made it so much worse that the composer for Once Upon a Forest died in an event that burned the forest too. :(

Jerry Goldsmith's Secret of Nimh is another such amazing score for an animated movie.

James Horner was most well Known for films like Titanic, but his true masterpieces came from the many middle and low brow films he worked on.
I've seen this movie so many times as a kid. This song right here holds a very dear place in my heart, brings back so many emotions
This is some beautiful whimsical Horner magic.
I love this movie! It is a wonderful piece of my childhood. Reminds me of my great grandmother.

Rest in Peace James Horner
I Miss you 😘 James Horner Orchestra
James Horner is such an awesome composer. This reminds me a bit of the main title theme to The Rocketeer, which he also composed the music for.

I actually agree with you on that. His earlier scores seem to have more good stuff on them than Titanic or Avatar ever did.

I love this soundtrack, and Balto
ahhh...hello my childhood. :)
@BDean97 I'm glad you enjoy listening to this hidden gem of a score. :)
2:23-2:36 That part reminds me of James Horner's music at the beginning of "The Grinch."
Congratulations on becoming a parent! :) And yes, show her the shows and movies you watched when you were a kid.
8:45 that last bit reminds me soo much of Titanic.
Aaaabigaaaaaiil
4:29 Sounds like that bird call he uses later in Avatar.
I should really watch this movie again ;3;

So much worse? Not the fact that he left behind a grieving family and friends? A devoted fanbase who won't ever enjoy new fruits of his gift?
THAT'S HOW HE DIED?! I assumed it was cancer...
The Family and Friends I feel for most. I suppose we now just gotta appreciate his works..
It's very sad
1:48 Dad: Abigal!
I can't help but think of The Land Before Time when I listen to 3:02 - 3:18
3:02-3:18
Part of my childhood, the score makes me want to cry. Can you upload the Balto soundtrack? The only ones on UA-cam have the sound still in them.
@DubJendel I'm glad I could be of service. :)
Hermoso ❤
@lastgarlicfinger That's why he's my favorite. :) I should probably buy the Rocketeer soundtrack, since it is considered to be among his best.
I will cry... that"s sure !!!! :'(
Happy birthday Ben vereen
