I live in Los Angeles and I went to Pittsburgh for a vacation to watch a steeler game and I want to move there after high school so badly I didn't want to come back when it was time to come back to LA.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh. I’ve lived through the might of the mills, the power of steelworker unions, the fall of industry here but the subsequent rise of tech, medicine, arts & education and of course the rise of the amazing Steelers and the Steelers Nation. The endowments of the wealthy Pittsburgh families-Carnegie, Frick, Mellon, Hillman, Westinghouse have kept Pittsburgh alive through all the changes. We have so much culture for a city built on labor and immigrant families including 9 theaters in a 14 block area, museums galore, incredible history and historical sites, great ethnic neighborhoods with awesome food, street food and award winning dining. It’s a beautiful city that never ceases to take my breath away.
Pittsburgh is the beginning of the Mid-west. Pittsburgh has nothing to do with the East Coast. Philadelphia is East Coast. The site of Pittsburgh was determined by George Washington. It was a mistake to exclude Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. The Whiskey Rebellion was fought by farmers outside Pittsburgh, because of an unfair tax on Whiskey. Farmers in Pittsburgh had a problem getting their gain over the Appalachian Mountains. So they made it into Whiskey, in order to transport it to the East. Also, Pittsburgh had a problem in 1876. Brakemen were necessary to stop each Railroad car on a train. The Brakemen would climb on top of each Railroad car and turn the brakes on with a large wheel on top of the car, then walk across each Railroad car to turn on its brakes. This was a dangerous job. The Pennsylvania Railroad President Scott ordered to cut the number of brakemen on each train. Pittsburgh strikes. Philadelphia sent the Pennsylvania National Guard on a weekend. The National Guard came to Pittsburgh on a train. Because it was the weekend, the factory workers, and mill workers were off. As the Pennsylvania National Guard rolled into the Pittsburgh Railroad Yard, the Pittsburgh were stationed on 200 foot cliffs next to the Railroad Yard. The Pittsburghers had the Pennsylvania National Guard pinned down. Pittsburghers destroyed the Yard in support of the Brakemen. It was a Pittsburgher George Westinghouse who invented the Airbrake to stop Trains. Then there was the Homestead Strike were Pittsburghers fought the Pinkertons. Pittsburgh has very little to do with the East coast.
The best phrase I can describe Pittsburgh with "The Biggest Small Town In America". We really do have upper class gems of culture right next to blue collar grit right next to hipster cool. Pittsburgh is thus parochial in its neighborhoods, and quality of life can change by block or street. Its identity is unified by its sports teams' prestige, and that's the only civic arrogance you might see here, which also doesn't last long. It's a quilt of lifestyles, and for a mostly conservative city, we are also pretty open minded, if hesitant. We're friendly here, and we don't strut around with any kind of big city airs, and we distrust even our fellow Pittsburghers who do. The joke is that "nothing ever changes in Pittsburgh", even while we're ushering in a third, fourth, fifth Renaissance. In a backhanded way, we're proud of that. Pittsburghers stay true to themselves. Our city changes slowly, but sparkles with tiny gems if you know where to mine them. We craft things here, and we like to be steady and tough. I think Pittsburgh is pretty fertile ground to do what you want to do, if you can stay humble, chip in, do a full day's work.
I love Pgh. I was born and raised here and have a degree in nursing from CCAC. This city has so much potential and the sports are wonderful esp. The Steelers
I've lived so many places including Phoenix Sacramento San Francisco... I grew up in Pittsburgh..and I still love Pittsburgh over any city.... I wanna go back.

When people arrive here, they're pleasantly surprised. It's a big city with a small town feel. The people are the best. Food is amazing. So much nature all around. Can't beat it. :)
I retuned here 21 years ago. Pittsburgh has become a white collar city that has retained a blue collar mentality. The metropolitan area has its pockets of growth and areas that went down the tubes during the 1981 recession and have never recovered (the Mon Valley and the Beaver Valley). We lost not only steelmaking but several large corporation headquarters, like J&L, Gulf Oil, US Air and others. It was due in large part to the presence of Pitt and CMU that Pittsburgh did not dry up and blow away. Recreation here is amazing and it is superior to many metro areas of similar and larger sizes. We have the Great Allegheny Passage, the bike trail that took over abandoned railroads to make a trail that stretches from the Point to Georgetown, and other great bike trails like the Montour. People here love to hunt and fish (and these people are the original enviornmentalists) and there is plenty of opportunity to do both. Kennywood is a marvel, a small theme park that is a local icon and a favorite through the generations. You don't have to go far to ride an excursion train or go skiing. On sunny afternoons one sees plenty of pleasure boats all over the rivers. Pittsburgh has had an impact on America's history that is huge and far out of proportion to the population size of the metropolitan area. Pittsburgh isn't perfect. There are things I miss, such as the Downtown Kaufmann's department store. We ought to have a better highway network. I really don't like the fact that Pittsburgh has been ruled by one partly longer than China or Cuba. Peduto wants Pittsburgh to be another hip, trendy Portland, and we need only be ourselves.
There's a lot of "old money" in Pittsburgh along with, obviously, some very smart, savvy people that would never have allowed this city to die. They would have collectively come up with some means of bringing the city back. The cooperation among all groups in the city helped save it too. That's the spirit of Pittsburghers.
Very true and inspirational comment, while as a kid, bike lanes and the environment are my biggest issue, your absolutely right about everything. I'll have to look deeper at Mr P's policies... Your not just mourning about long gone steel mills, what you speak about is not unrealistic.

The nostalgia and charming nature of Pittsburgh drives the nail home for me. Some notable places that I miss are noblestown roads old setup. Ponderosa, blockbuster, family toy warehouse, reeds, batting cages, mini golf, etc. I also miss the old setup at station square. Tequila junction, Bobby ribinos, uss nightmare, fright fest, arcade, and I believe it was named the IC amphitheatre. I miss parkway center Mall and all it offered I can remember every detail. Etc...etc...etc...I can go all day. That's what's so beautiful about Pittsburgh it's rememberable and it's a town that holds on to it's humble beginnings. Most cities are forgettable but not Pittsburgh it truly is heaven on earth for many. God willing I can bring it in the afterlife, that's the loyalty and love I have for this town
Pittsburg one of my brothers moved there because of a great love he had for the young lady who would become his wife and then he also fell in love with the city of Pittsburg!
The tallest building in the city is officially known as the U. S. Steel Tower. It has the UPMC sign at the top because UPMC is the largest tenant and to satisfy the ego of its CEO Romoff it demanded of the building's owners that its acronym be put on the building. Sadly for Romoff no one calls it the UPMC Tower. It will always be the U S Steel Tower.
My high school friend I've known for 40 years lives there and I visit him frequently..such a cool and unique city. mixture of blue collar and tech, excellent food scene, great vibe and interesting physical layout. They totally turned it into a pleasant and very livable city with bike trails and a mix of different neighborhoods and ethnic enclaves..unfortunately the hipsters are coming in droves thanks to Google etc...still it's a city completely transformed from the steel mill 70's....
Proud to be from this best kept secret. The teachers were well paid and our education was top notch. Almost my entire family went to either Carnegie Mellon University or the University of Pittsburgh.
I remember hearing my Dad tell stories of how in the 60s and 70s business men use to have to take a change of shirts to work because the smog and dirt in the air was so bad from the mills. Today its a city that I am so proud to say I grew up there in the 80s and even though I don't live there now, when people ask me where I'm from, I tell them I'm from Pittsburgh!!!! I say that with pride!!! Its a city that is so beautiful and has a history that is wonderful and proud!!! I miss the authentic food!!! Nothing better than a real Ruben or a real genuine Gyro from the Strip District!!! As a kid growing up we went to Penguin games and Pirate games!!! I use to love coming through the Squirrel Hill Tunnels!! It was like you were going to a wonderful new world!!! Pittsburghers really do take that saying to heart, " our blood is black and gold!!"
No, that was in the 1930's and 1940's. Right after WW2 ended in 1945, Pittsburgh instituted clean air regulations that greatly reduced the smog from the mills.
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. Moved away in 1981. Lived in Alaska 11yrs, Hawaii 6yrs, California 20+yrs. Retiring this year and I'm moving back, just outside of the Burgh. For better or worse those rolling hills are calling me back. See yinz there.
Great video , been here my entire life and it's so nice to see where we came in such a short time and to see the direction were heading in !! 412 4 Life
I adore Pittsburgh! Visited many times, but when I lived there for about a year in the early 2000s, I realized just how livable this city it. I've been working on moving back to the 'Burgh for a while now, & hopefully I'll have accomplished that within 2021. I'm in a very rural part of PA (where I grew up) right now, but I'd really love a more urban setting to retire in. I can't think of anyplace better than Pittsburgh.
We are special people. Migrants who descended on this land of many rivers for work. In the very beginnings, people who had nothing. And through it all, that blood continued on, thise ravaged by mills and hard labor under bosses who only cared on their deathbeds. A cruel, fruitful irony. We know what we are at every level. We are decent. We’re not nice people. We’re straight and to the point. We dose out our own medicine. No punches are pulled in any of the Valleys. So understand us. We survived here. No, it was not the end of the world, even though it was hell with the lid off. Anything can be remade. Anyone can be redeemed. Anything can start again. There were not rusted mills in ashes. Just the cigarettes the people smoked in the meantime. All love
I wish it was a city of entertainment, food that doesn't suck, jobs for the lower middle class, but hey sports teams win so I guess we are great huh? colleges most of the population will never go to but hey that is great. Healthcare and "Technology" that means absolutely nothing if you don't want to be in that field or can't afford it. This place is an opioid addicted shithole, city of champions my fucking ass, our "champions" leave here when they make money it sucks.
I have a great deal of affection for Pittsburgh and always have. But still I can't understand the constant bull about its comeback. I have been hearing that for decades. Sure, certain sectors are showing signs of life. My God I hope so! But overall, in spite of the fact so many people love it and want to move there, it continues to lose population. Even the metropolitan are cannot replace births. Face it, Pittsburgh like most of mid-America was screwed by Wall Street and Washington big time and overall continues to lose decent jobs.
@04:20 "That was called the US Steel building once." Actually it still is. Even withing UPMC people still call it "The Steel Building" or "Steel Tower"
hearing my dad talk about pittsburgh in the 1980's, as opposed to the pittsburgh I know is crazy to think about, how this city made such a 180 in the span of 40 years.
Suburbs or Pittsburgh are great. Wouldn't live or work in the city though. Lived in southern Pittsburgh for 24 years, the drug epidemic is terribly bad. Not mentioned in this video at all amazingly...
I came to this area to retire and for the appalachians - As a new comer it wasn't easy to figure where to live but I wound up buying a house in Westmoreland Co. Houses in Braddock , McKeesport , Rankin, pitcairne - just looked around the north and west was too pricey for me - I found a lot of old houses in westmoreland co. that needed a lot of work. I could have done a lot worse but I'm content in Trafford, PA

Beautiful video, we love Pittsburgh. Home of Pittsburgh Unfiltered!
I love Pittsburgh, sending love from Ohio! Black and Yellow!
I ❤️ Pittsburgh and proud to be here!
Los Angeles is better.
Eh You're an outsider and will be an easy target. People like you don't understand LA and don't know what LA really is. Good luck trying to move here. You can live in my city your whole life and not understand it or how to navigate it because you weren't born here. Try not to become homeless; it's truly a shame on you as we drive by you.
why do u keep replying to psychos???
@Amor Armour @Allan Kardec Yeah breh don't even reply to a psycho. We all saw @Yo Yo Bait you in and then delete their comment. It's prolly that crazy stalker chick you warned us about.
RealPartyKid people like you fill the streets of LA. You all think your better than god himself. Just because you have hot summer days and a lot of celebrities does not mean you are better in anyway. Besides, have you even been to Pittsburgh or grown up there? Exactly..
Pittsburgh is an incredible city, so diverse not only from a corporate standpoint, but also from a multiethnic population.
The culture here is phenomenal. Always has been, always will be.
the "UMPC" building is still called the US Steel building I think and it is the tallest building here.
Grew up in New Jersey. Went to university in Pittsburgh. Considering moving back. Loved the city.
I love Pittsburgh. I miss alot of the old charm as alot has changed but it's still the best place to be especially during warmer months.
Its spelled Pittsburgh
UserName0043 it’s*
UserName0043 it actually used to be spelled Pittsburg only like 70 years ago.
you forgot the h
I could live anywhere in the world
Pittsburgh is ..The City I Choose To Call Home :)
Born and raised in New York but moved to Pittsburgh where I am currently living in now and I like it a lot
This sounds like my mom ghost wrote that lol. But u right
US Steel Tower forever
My high school friend I've known for 40 years lives there and I visit him frequently..such a cool and unique city. mixture of blue collar and tech, excellent food scene, great vibe and interesting physical layout. They totally turned it into a pleasant and very livable city with bike trails and a mix of different neighborhoods and ethnic enclaves..unfortunately the hipsters
are coming in droves thanks to Google etc...still it's a city completely transformed from the steel mill 70's....
soy de Colombia en un mes estaré en pittsburgh de turismo se ve muy bonita la ciudad 😃
Love Pittsburgh and the Steelers ❣️😘❣️
1:36-we got lots of bicycle lanes. (Shows a video of people on segways)😂😂
...whether we wanted 'em or not!
haha epic XD
Not just that, but they are on the crosswalk and going to a sidewalk.
November 27, 2020: Pittsburgh is 262 years old... Happy Birthday!
I have lived in Pittsburgh for 19 years. No place I’d rather grow up! Thank you Pittsburgh for being a great home!
I love Pittsburgh , especially downtown.
When you come out of the tunnel and downtown opens up ... it is BEAUTIFUL at night.
MY HOMETOWN!!!
I wanna move here once I graduate college. California is getting expensive :/
Great video , been here my entire life and it's so nice to see where we came in such a short time and to see the direction were heading in !! 412 4 Life

The steel is in the blood, the blood is in the steel.
Pittsburgh is the best city In the north
I adore Pittsburgh! Visited many times, but when I lived there for about a year in the early 2000s, I realized just how livable this city it. I've been working on moving back to the 'Burgh for a while now, & hopefully I'll have accomplished that within 2021. I'm in a very rural part of PA (where I grew up) right now, but I'd really love a more urban setting to retire in. I can't think of anyplace better than Pittsburgh.
We really enjoyed touring Pittsburgh in ‘17. Went to Heinz Museum, PNC Park, Did a river tour, and of course, Primanti Bros.!
I wanna join the military in 21 then hopefully move here by around ‘25 i hope its still affordable 😪😪
Those steel mills built america and Pittsburgh wouldnt be were it is today without them
We are special people.
All love
From New Jersey but one of my favorite cities I've passed through
Love my steel city so much💯💯💯 Pittsburgh proud!
Pittsburgh is not only the City of Champions, but it is Home.
Mario Limieux
2 titles and the team was bankrupt
he took the ultimate risk and because of him others followed
1 man saved that town
Um no. He saved the Penguins
Merry Christmas to Pittsburgh!
The steel city is going high tech, and there's great museums, restaurants, unusual things to do
This is a beautiful city I need to take some time to just explore it since my mom lives like 30mins away maybe I'll do some videos
My dream city
Never been to Pittsburgh but I love it
I have a great deal of affection for Pittsburgh and always have.
Cinder Block Studio keeping the faith.... will remain ingrained in our minds as the U.S. Steel Building👍🏻
You just plugged CMU the entire video...
3:53 The title says "CMU", but it's the University of Pittsburgh in the background. lol
There was a time when Pittsburgh was a big fight town with the likes of Fritzie Zivic & Billy Conn, both world champions.
Pittsburgh looks interesting to visit.
I love my city
hearing my dad talk about pittsburgh in the 1980's, as opposed to the pittsburgh I know is crazy to think about, how this city made such a 180 in the span of 40 years.
Rest In Peace Mac Miller
Shagbark Sheriff I never thought I would see this comment.
RIP one of the greats! He bled black and gold!!!
I live in westveiw pa is about 10 minutes away from downtown an I work downtown I love Pittsburgh
I love this city it’s the land of bridges! 🎤🎬🎹
