Not even the LEGO films had this much heart put into the animation. Jesus Christ.
They just had a different heart for the animation. The flims focused on the smallest details while still making it seem like stop motion. The series focused of an exaggerated animation approach.

As a chinese person I had never been more excited to see chinese mythology animated into a story. Sure the modern Chinese animations have relatively good cgi, but this shit, this shit actually has a creative story behind it. This got me excited to see all the mythological characters. This is dope

1:54 this is actually TRUE When Tang Sanzang and his disciples are about to leave the Women's Kingdom, scorpion demoness suddenly appeares from the roadside and kidnaps Sanzang by making a whirlwind. Back to her cave in Venom Mountain, scorpion demoness comforts Sanzang with food and persuades him to be her husband. As scorpion demoness and Sanzang's conversation becomes more and more playful, Sun Wukong, Sanzang's disciple, arrives and stops the demoness from teasing Sanzang. They fight out of the cave, where Zhu Bajie (pigsy) and sha wujing (shandy) (don't ask me how it's translated to that joins) Wukong to fight against scorpion demoness Wich unexpectedly doesn't help. Wich then the scorpion demoness uses her tail to sting on Wukong's head. Suffering a severe headache, Wukong escapes with Zhu Bajie and Sha wujing. Scorpion demoness then returns to her cave and enters the bridal suite with Sanzang. but Sanzang keeps rejecting to make love with her. This love show goes on till midnight, when scorpion demoness is finally angered by Sanzang's Buddhism and the literal reincarnation of Golden Cicada, which was the Buddha's second ever disciple. She orders her servants to tie Sanzang with rope and then sleeps by herself. The next day, Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie (not including Sha wujing somehow) come back to fight against the demoness but Zhu Bajie is hurted by her poisonous tail. Guanyin (the bodhisattva that gave the names to Zhu Bajie and Sha wujing) then comes to check up on the gang on the hold up then instructs then to find star lord mao (no literally that's his name) the spirit of one of the 28 (yes there's 28 of them) lunar mansions for help. Sun wukong now with star lord mao book it back to the mountain. Star Lord Mao also magically cures the lingering effects of the Scorpion demons poison so Monkey and Pigsy are back in fighting form now healed and ready to fight sun and Pigsy lure out the demoness, which is when Star Lord Mao reveals his true form in all his divine glory as a seven foot...chicken Huh Star Lord Mao, now a chicken, crows twice, transforming the demoness back to her true scorpion form and paralyzing her, pigsy now freaks out and accidentally kills the demon intensionally and the gang goes to save tang sanzang and also the demon kinda kidnapped some girls from the Kingdom of Women. They return the kidnapped women and continue their {journey to the west}.
