    @4:46 all indoor cycling bikes pedals and road / mountain bike pedals require a occasional lubrication. You do not need new cleats for your shoes.
    It's much easier to simply lubricate your pedals then wipe them down. Replacing the shoe cleat and aligning the shoe cleat is a somewhat complicated and arduous task..
    Don't turn simple task into a a project unnecessarily.
    Note: issues like this are apart of becoming an experienced cyclist - either indoor cyclist or outdoor cyclist. There's always something to learn it's just the way it is.

    Thanks for the video. Super informative. I purchased an used bike that I’ve been using for about two months, and I want to make sure settings are correct; reason being: seems to me that when instructor tells me to set bike at, say, 30 resistance, instructor seems to be working a lot harder then me. I’m definitely not in great shape, so Im thinking the bike is out of calibration? Any suggestions on how to check bike is set correctly?

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Generally they refer to resistance 30 as flat road. Meaning you are only starting to feel light resistance and it is really not that hard, but you can feel it a little. So, based on what you said, I am thinking you are setup correctly. The instructors are probably just being "high energy". If you don't feel it is correct, reach out to Peloton and they can tell you how to calibrate it correctly.

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  4 роки тому +1

      Hi and thank you so much! You don’t need headphones at all. The tablet/screen has speakers built in that do a pretty good job. Most get headphones if they want to amp up the sound quality or be able to jam out without making noise for others. And you are right on, most bluetooth headphones should pair and work just fine!

    Does the bike change resistance automatically like cheap smart trainers without having to turn a red dial? Is it better than cheaper products such as the Wahoo Kickr Elite Drivo or Tacx Neo? Can I peloton on my widescreen tv? At $15 a month! Is Zwift a rip off??

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  5 років тому

      No, you select resistance manually. This way if you can’t keep up you can lower resistance and keep going. You can cast to lots of devices (roku, fire stick). I don’t think zwift is a rip off. Different option that has a different purpose. People seem to like it so I have nothing bad to say about zwift .

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  2 роки тому

      Thanks John! I would default to what Peloton recommends but generally most conversations only include keeping it clean. Wiping it down after working out and giving it a clean here and there. The worry is mineral buildup from frequent sweat exposure could eventually cause problems.

    Hi there, so my Peloton bike arrived yesterday woohoo!!! I actually found the 20 min beginner class quite tough lol (and I like to think I'm fit), I ski, I run.... Is there any plan or classes you would recommend for the spin beginner, thank you.

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  4 роки тому +1

      First, even the beginning rides can be tough so that is normal. You will be amazed at how quick you get stronger if you keep at it. As far as classes I recommend, I only recommend doing a few beginning rides first to learn form, movement, and position. After that, it really is a matter of trying things to find instructors you like and ride types you like. Everyone is so different when it comes to this that there is no easy answer. Part of the fun of it though, figuring out what you do and don't like and realizing how much variety there is! Enjoy and congrats!

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  5 років тому +1

      I would try without first and see how it goes. The peloton has levelers so I am guessing you will be good. The only thing the mat may provide is a tiny bit of absorption of your movement when riding hard. If you think that is a problem buy it then but I would try without first. I don’t use a mat but I do have mine on a rubber gym floor...

    • @loheotbu

    I have ridden a Peloton before but have used the cages. I received my Peloton two weeks ago and I am having the most frustrating experience because I cannot clip in both feet. I can only clip in my dominant foot and cannot clip out. I know that there is nothing wrong because my husband can do it with no trouble. Could this be a strength issue. We have lessened the tension but are afraid to lessen it too much as various videos tell us we can damage the petals. Any advice?

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  4 роки тому

      Sorry it is giving you problems! Try checking out the video below and see if that helps. You are right about being careful to loosen too much as it will damage the pedal and considering you have an example of someone else working fine, I would not adjust more. Something to consider might be getting the improved cleats (amzn.to/2w8Xo9d). I feel they slide in and out a little better. Make sure your cleat is all the way forward and pointed forward, push down on the red resistance knob to stop pedal movement, and push straight down with your heel. Try to make sure you are not twisting or turning your foot. I hope that helps!

Kind of bit disappointed that she could not experience it. But I feel like I am hooked. I feel like Peloton could have done a better job explaining the shoes and the clicking in and out part. Sure can. One thing I have noticed is a lot of people voice concerns about the Peloton HRM. External options do work. The big thing is it needs to be ANT+ compatible. I did a little looking on forums and people really love the Scosche. Garmin has a pretty big following as well. Linked below are the top 3 I could find referenced if that helps.
      - Scosche RHYTHM+ - amzn.to/2rjyS33
      - Garmin Chest Strap - amzn.to/2zIPhCP
      - Garmin Fenix 5 - amzn.to/2PiZz1w (Other ANT+ models exist. Just make sure about ANT+)
      Good Luck!

    2nd question, sorry, but thanks for responding previously - If on carpet, is having a mat going to be acceptable or should i put some plywood under it and mat on top it. Thanks!

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  5 років тому

      No problem! Some have gotten away with just a mat and others have needed plywood. I think a lot of factors come into play. How tall\plush is the carpet, how big you are, how high you ride... I will say a lot of people have had to get plywood. Without it, it just does not feel secure and a little too wobbly. I would assume you will need it and hope to get lucky.

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  5 років тому

      The bike requires a 2’ x 4’ footprint. Most people get a mat a little larger than that and get plywood cut to match the plywood size. Here is an example at 30” x 72”. amzn.to/2MPWK7J

    I have a peloton @ my apt. gym, I signed up for an acct on the machine to be able to use the classes, is this like a 30 day free trial? and if so…what happens after it expires? Will I have to pay to view classes?

      Thank you! Honestly, not sure how you signed up if it was a trial or actual subscription but access to the Peloton software does require a monthly subscription. On the actual Peloton bike, I believe it is 39 a month or so. If you get an alternative bike that can still do Peloton rides (Stryde), you pay for Peloton Digital instead which is a fraction of the cost. I have videos on that option if you want to look into it.

    The key to doing Peloton or any other Spinning Classes is to control your body. If you have too much movement in your upper body, you either are spinning faster than you can handle, or you are putting too much resistance . Your body shouldn't be swaying all over the place. Learn to build up to it. Also, good position on the bike is a key.

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  5 років тому

      Good points. Another thing I have noticed is people lower the resistance too low in order to try and achieve an extremely high cadence. This causes the upper body to be out of control. You need to have the right amount of resistance to remain in control.

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  5 років тому

      Thanks! You know, I would say a little bit of both. If you want to train with or just use your existing bike, Zwift looks like a great option. I must admit, my Zwift knowledge is limited, but it looks pretty sweet. The Peloton is more of that all in one solution. Meaning, you set it up and are good to go. No work required. Hit a power button, clip in, select class, and get to work. The Zwift could become a hassle if your bike is not hooked up or you need to go back and forth. To me, it really kinda depends on your goals. Training with\using your existing bike or a home exercise option that is always available. Hope that helps and good luck!

      For the answers on peloton contracts and financing, I would contact peloton chat. They are very good. I don’t believe you are locked in. I prepaid for one year and then it is up to me to renew after that. The different prices are for digital versus actual bike users. Unfortunately the bike is the higher priced package but still cheaper than most gym memberships. Yes, you need to use clip in shoes unless you replace the pedals which can be done.

      @Brett LaGrange The nordictrack offers a much longer warranty (I live in Canada and they only offer 1 year here with no option for an extended warranty... the delivery area is also very limited here). The music on Nordictrack is "modern background music" so they can avoid licencing fees. The peloton classes have actual music it sounds like, and gets rave reviews vs Nordictrack meh reviews re music. The Nordictrack bike is far superior to me for the price (swivel screen, auto resistance, incline and decline that you can override and great outdoor rides... they also throw in weights, mat and heart rate monitor and one year subscription for free) but the content is leading me to Peloton since that's what going to inspire me to actually use it. But, generally speaking, the Peloton is usually the option that is best for most people trying to get back into exercise and improving their health. Is there a peloton version 2 bike coming out ?

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  4 роки тому

      Not that I am aware of. The current bike is version 2 or 3, I can't remember but I believe the only things they updated was the attached tablet. I thought I heard a rumor that they may make a less expensive version of the bike and tread, but I have no idea if that is true.

    Thanks for sharing Travis! I am interested in how you felt about the instructor's method of teaching. Did you feel motivated by the instructor? Did you feel that he was in the room with you as if you were at the actual studio taking the class? I am doing a study on Instructional Methods for Live streaming fitness trainers. Thanks so much!

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  5 років тому +1

      I do feel motivated by the instructors. Sometimes I do a just ride and try to push myself. I usually will burn half the calories I would have in an instructor led course. It is more motivational, you have instructions you are trying to meet, and goals you are trying to achieve. I do really like that part of it. As far as feeling like I am in a studio… I don’t know if I feel like I am in a studio so much. Although, it does not feel like 1 on 1 guidance either. If the feed was an instructor riding with me or giving advice 1 on 1, I think it would feel a little weird if that makes sense. The fact that you see all the other riders and you know you are not the only one riding makes you feel like it is a group effort, which I do like.

      @@Learnwithtravis One saved round, if the Instructors could improve one thing what would you wish?

    • @Learnwithtravis

      You know, there are enough instructors with different styles that you have plenty of choices to find instructors you enjoy. Not sure I have any feedback. It would be nice if Peloton offered a control that allows you to fade between instructor voice and music to get the balance you want. If you guys are trying to create a competitive product, you better be on point. Peloton has a pretty sweet setup. 😃

    Hey Travis, I've been riding now for about 7 weeks and have had knee pain for the past 10 days. Is there anything I can do to elevate that? I've started staying in the saddle for low impact rides of 45 min or more.

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  5 років тому +2

      I am not an expert on this and my suggestion would be to contact Peloton support via chat. I think they have a document telling you want to look for. A lot of the time this is because your bike or cleat is adjusted wrong causing stress on your body in ways you don't want. Another thing is on the Peloton. They have the 101 setup video you can watch that tells you how to adjust the bike. You may want to consider watching this to look for improvements and then adjusting cleats so that your feet\legs and positioned correctly. Good luck!

    If you live in an area with bike stores, do not buy the shoes. Go and get a pair of bike shoes that fit your feet. Different brands have different fitment.

      Nope. Never. As an IT guy, I am pretty sure 90 percent of times people have problems it is because of bad wireless which can usually be fixed. I did create a video about it, but no, I have never had a single connection issue.
