  • “Time in Boat” is what we refer to as our version of a virtual test paddle for you. Here’s a cut of two of Northstar’s popular Northwind Solo and Trillium.
Northstar Northwind Solo BlackLite E6 Carbon Trim with seat set in kneeling position.
Northstar Trillium StarLite w/ Wood Trim with seat set in kneeling position.
Paddler: Richard was about 5’8” and 180 lbs. He has many year’s solo paddling both WW and flat water. Currently owns a BlackLite Merlin II. Was interested in going smaller and lighter with the Trillium in StarLite.
You can learn more about the two model stats and my opinion here:

This was VERY good for a canoe buyer, the whole weight thing and size of paddler is seldom mentioned - Very good sales info

nice video! how do the two models compare on the water in terms of performance? which boat would you recommend for a shorter paddler for day trips? thanks!

Hi Dennis, It really depends upon your size and predisposition toward stability and gear load. I assume for day trips that the gear is minimal. If you are under 16-170 lbs and have some solo background, you may enjoy the trillium as it offers low windage and a very efficient paddling postion. But, if you want something that is a little more "relaxed" and able to haul a load then the Northwind Solo may be the better pick. I'm 165lbs but often paddle with kids or a dog so the Northwind Solo is more versatile for me. I have a gent that is a150 lbs that is going with the Trillium because he liked the lighter weight, great glide/tracking for his size and the smaller craft for convenience. If you are a "sitter", you may also like the slightly more stable Northwind solo. Though "Time In Boat" solves most stability issues...ya just gotta learn your craft.

@@HappyPaddlin - that's a super helpful response, I don't have a way to test boats locally so I really appreciate it!

I really don't understand why we all can't do everything in pajamas.
