This is very interesting. I find I like the tone of the Vandoren V16's except for the high end. "Bright shrillness" was a very good description. I may have to send mine to you. Would love to see how much better the piece would play and sound.
I don’t remember the store I got them from but you can find them online. Look for pin gauges. They are usually sold in big kits and can be a little hard to find individually but it’s possible. Just try to be consistent with either go or no-go gauges.
