    I had to move mine from the rear to the Tusk mounts. It didn’t take long for the mounts to shake loose on my my ride. You might want to use locktite to keep the screws from backing out. Love my 5150 whips with rock lights. It’s a lot of work but worth it at night.

      I've had 2 come loose, even after locktite. I've also had 2 of the Tusk mounts break.

    If you go to the dunes I’m sure you know this already but they have to be 8ft from the ground so if they are 4ft whips mount them no less than 4 ft from the ground

      I'm not sure what height mine are at, had to actually lower the Tusk mounts because I've broken 2. Pretty sure they're 8' or higher as I'm 6' and flags are at least 2' higher than to of my head.

    Hey man, you should invest in a fuse box by the bus bar to not override or burn ur bus bar or fuses.

    • @desertnerd4353
      @desertnerd4353  3 роки тому

      My wires are a bit of a mess but everything has its own fuse. Light bar, side mirrors with lights and whips all have inline fuses and haven't popped one yet. Thanks for advice though.

    Seems like a lot of these accessory companies don’t account for the extra length of these 4up rides. It’s a common problem in many videos.

    Can’t be upset with a company over an issue of not knowing how to install the item properly.

      I believe the bus bar in the X3 is in the center console which is a shorter distance. On RZRs the bus bar is behind the dash under the front hood.

    How did you screw in the bolt when you installed it? I’m having trouble with mine

    • @desertnerd4353
      @desertnerd4353  11 місяців тому

      Are you talking about the bolt that's on the flag? If yes it just slides into the mount hole and tighten up the nut.

    • @aervis7
      @aervis7 11 місяців тому

      @@desertnerd4353 yeah when I tried to screw in the bolt it moves the flag since it’s connected to the screw. It’s pretty hard but I’m gonna try today since it has stopped raining lol

  • @LAAM619

    why is the nut on the magnetic base so hard to turn? is it cus that white plastic thing in there?

    • @desertnerd4353
      @desertnerd4353  10 місяців тому

      Are you referring to the nut that screws the mount on? Mine wasn't hard to screw on but this was a couple years ago and they may have changed something. I'm actually going to go with MWhips or Buggy Whips next time. These are ok but I've had problems with the flag nut stripping so they just spin in the mount instead of locking in place. Once 5150 sold to another company, I've heard their return policy has gone to shit.

    • @LAAM619
      @LAAM619 10 місяців тому

      @@desertnerd4353 Yes. I freeze framed your video and looks like it is different. Mine has a nylon nut and it is VERY hard to screw in and i had to use a long allen wrench to hold the bolt from the other side, also had to use pliers to hold the allen wrench, cudnt do it with my hand. I suppose this is a good thing though, i highly highly doubt that thing will come loose. Also the allen nut inside the tube is very deep so hopefully it no longer has an issue with stripping. I agree on the return/warranty policy, really sucks. I am glad mine turned out good but i wont buy again either.

    I just purchased a new turbo today and it had these installed but no switch. Everytime I turn the key on they come on, is there an app or something I can use to control them?

      I actually had to Google it. Off the top of my head I can't remember, I did most of those switches about 2-3 months apart and that was about a year ago. Sorry I can't be of much help.

  • @rhelton72

    I’m using the tusk mounts too and I was wondering how you actually tightened the whip base nut because the lock nut is so tight that the base just spins as I’m trying to tighten the nut? Lol I’ve tried placing a cloth on the base and using some channel locks to hold it as I tighten the nut but it still just spins

    • @desertnerd4353
      @desertnerd4353  3 роки тому

      I just held it with my hand. Once the lock washer is locked in place it shouldn't move. Did you put the lock washer on the bottom side of the Tusk mount?

    The 187’s don’t come with the magnetic bases?

    • @desertnerd4353

      Yes they come with the magnetic base. I bought the Tusk mounts so I can but the magnetic base up higher on the roll cage.

      Got it thanks!
      Just ordered 2 6ft 187’s.
      I was already worried about the wiring before watching this full review - now I’m dreading it. I bought the rocker switch, and I have a 4 seater Talon, so I know I’m going to have to splice and lengthen the leads.
      Any tips to speed that portion of the install up?

    • @desertnerd4353
      @desertnerd4353  3 роки тому

      @@Austin__ It's actually not too bad, just get some red and black wire to add to the supplied harness and you should be fine. Once hooked up test before you zip tie.

    It's obvious this dude doesn't know or has not wired alot ... 5150 whips have done nothing wrong he's claiming the wires are not long enough lmao it's because u add wire and place the box farther back lmao. 😉

    • @desertnerd4353

      If you watch the beginning of the video, you can see that the newer harness doesn't have bare wires to extend. The harness has pre-installed plugs for the whips and connectors for the switch. I had to cut the harness wires to extend. Not hard, but these should be long enough for any car if 5150 is going to put plug ends on.

      I'm going to have to go through that. The locking nut that keeps the poles from spinning inside the magnetic hokders has stripped and the whips keep rotating and popping out.
