Great work, Crystal. I can't wait to see what you do with that bike. I think I liked the shape of the original tank better, with the knee indents, but it's hard to know until everything is together. Either way, It'll look good.
I thought it was funny that Dan just rolled the bike up to the ultrasonic to do the tops of the carbs rather than taking off the throttle cables. Smart.

I got my first metric socket set when I was 12yo, racing karts in the 60s. Then I raced motocross while working at a motorcycle shop. Then raced SCCA sports cars. Restored MGs and Jag. Now building a CX cafe racer. And what is surely a miracle, I still have the original 10mm socket from that Indestro set. And the 13.

Dan, I've been riding since I was 9 and I cracked 63 this year. I've backed out of the heavy bikes afte a knee replacement and I am in the process of building a Street Tracker from a Yamaha Scorpio. 2007 model with spoked rims and only 7000km on it. A lot of your ideas are very inspiring for making some of the parts and I am looking forward to getting it done for next summer. All things being equal LoL.
I think I have gone full circle in my bike career, from a kid putting together a box of parts y uncle gave to me and another set my dad got for me, I built two BSA Bantams, one was complete with lights and the other was a wild beast. with 19" rims, the rear sprocket almost filled the 2/3s of the space. I studied Phil Irvings Tuning for speedand and hand built an expansion chamber for it, figured outmy own air intakes and jetting, followed his guide on the ports and piston work, then crammed it all in a rigid frame cause it was ligher. I used a custom seat from my grandfather (who was an engineer), it was dual seat style but thickly padded and sprung. Needless to say I had a great time, and when I got my licence I used the other one on the road till I could afford bigger and faster. I've had Jap, Euro, Italian and British road and dirt bikes up to 1800cc. I have done some mild custom work at times, but 30 years in the Army does not give you that much freedom, so riding was most important. Now, with your help, my retirement project is formed in my head, I see the goal, I just need to have the body willing to play the same game and not be in surgery as much hehe!
I hope Crystal enjoys her custom bike and continues to do something to personalise it to her own saisfaction. Thank you for a great channel!

Hello Dan! Nice one again! About spoked wheels on these Honda wheels. It's quite an easy process actually. Let's see if I can make some sense in writing!
The whole wheel is bolted to the hub. Just like brakediscs. Make a ring, like a brakedisc only smaller, with holes in a pattern suited for spokes. Bolt the ring in place and find your rims with fitting spokes. Makes sense? Good luck!

When we build a bike for my sister she did some work herself, we started with a Yamaha FZR Exup 1000 from 1990 that I bought for parts. The bike had a good engine but no fairing or dashboard, dented tank and ripped seat. I have a huge stock pile of parts for those, bought all the parts they had from two dealers in Holland and one in Belgium where we live, owning seven FZR Exup bikes myself. Took the bike for here completely apart to the naked frame and than rebuild it with all new bearings, brake pads, gaskets for the carbs (not the engine that when away to a dealer) Had the tank sprayed in white (three tanks in one go) the rest we painted our-self with rattle cans in white. When the bike was finished it went to the dealer for the valve clearance and setting the carbs. I don't have the balance set for that and those shims are not cheap, the bike was lowered by us, we made the links for the rear our-self. Nicole really likes the bike and every time we talk of replacing it she says no.

Btw. A good way to use less fluids and degreasers in the Ultrasonic cleaner is to have the tub filled with water and then putting your carb or whatever you're cleaning into a plastic or glass jar and put the solvent in there. That way you don't need to clean the whole ultrasonic cleaner tub👌

Thank you mate I do that with clean water when I need to from time to time. I mainly use it for carbs so this solution is perfect 👍
Glad you found one that works and cheap though

Great vids, want to do one but once we cut the frame etc, it needs engineering cert. in Qld, Some suggest doing it post rwc and rego. Others that a frame cut behind the structural join is ok? Any clues, I am in Qld, the idea has put me off having a go at a racer build. Scared to do it post rego in case of an accident and insurance probs? Having trouble finding anything on it apart from get it inspected once complete?

@@CafeRacerGarage I'm have been working on a 2003 triumph speedmaster from the frame up built an oven so I could powder coat my own parts and when I get done with coating the frame I'm going to learn to zinc coat all the old hardware. After it's is done wife and I have a 71 sl350 to do a complete build on.

It's going to be very similar to my Honda CX 500 yes :) I'm doing a few upgrades on my CX500 after my moto camping video comes out, so be sure to let me know what you think of them. I just posted something about that to my Instagram story so if you hurry you will see it.
The Virago is waiting on parts to arrive for me to get started, front fork conversion, as well as engine parts, Peter with the BMW, hasn't done anything for me to video yet, He is a busy man and probably security waiting for me to build it for him lol 😂

By the way... If i had the money i would definitely drive a brand new motorcycle, however many of us don't have the money and driving a used motorcycle is not a bad idea at all.
    1. Motorcycles are seasonal vehicles and because - they are well preserved.
    2. Motorcycles are easier to repair than cars.
    3. You can get a 30 year old motorcycles that is so powerful, that it will make you SHIT DEM BRITCHES
    4. A naked (or simply stripped down from its plastics) looked good in the 90s, it looks good in 2022 and it will look good in 2069.
If somebody drives this epic bike and doesn't feel the wind in their chest, boogieman will wait for them under their bed for they have sinned:)

Thanks John, I use 120 grit alloy oxide for stuff like this that's needs a coating and very fine glass bead for the shiny finish on alloy

@@CafeRacerGarage thanks Dan good to know about the alloy oxide I will get some from my supplier, I use crushed glass in mine both corse and then fine for the finish, I find doing it that way the fine glass last a lot longer.
