    The way I do mine kratky cucamelon indoors is with a small fan blowing on a timer I never touch them let the wind do the work. The male needs to open up for this to work and pollen will flow.

    The males haven't even flowered. What's the point in this video? It's probably not going to work. Actually you've even said in the comments that you have had hardly any success in getting the plant to fruit..

      They will stay small won't grow larger than the size of a grape. Super tasty

    So the male flowers don't bloom like female? Like with cucumber. There are female flowers with fruit at the end and male with the stalk only. I use small brush for cucumber.

    Thank you for the info. So many conflicting information out there. This pollinations technique seems legit. But dang, does that have to be done for every tiny cucamelon ? Lol. My plants are outdoors but the females aren’t getting pollinated for whatever reason. Might be the heat since I’m in central Florida?

    question I meant to ask. Do you have to hand-pollinate every single thing or if you hand pollinate some does it help the rest to grow? I ask because this is a prolific growing plant

    Do I have to hand pollinate each female individually or can I set uo a small fan and run for about 5-10 minutes when males begin to open?

    Hi! I started just 2 mouse melon seeds indoors, and would like to keep them there. I enjoyed your video...very helpful! Each of my 2 plants are in 5" pots, and have lots of flowers. Can I put them together in one bigger pot, and if so, how big? I read that you should use a clay pot and a trellis. Thanks! Karen

    I have started growing my cucomelons indoors and they are blossoming and about to hand pollinate. I was wondering is there a safe way for me to move them outdoors they have already reached there vine’s to part of my window so I didn’t want to move them if it will affect them to much; however, I was just going to move them in there pots out side and let them vine around my greenhouse so not moving there roots. Is there a safe way to move their vibes?

    I have two small cucamelon plants outdoors that are about a foot long and they're already beginning to flower. Should I pinch the blooms to encourage more growth, or should I just let nature take its course?

    • @SoothingLeaf
      @SoothingLeaf  7 років тому

      Hey best thing would be to probably leave it clip it at the height max for your grow space and the it will produce a ton of side shoots get ready!! No need to clip flowers so many will grow without any addition work

    • @SirTrollingham
      @SirTrollingham 7 років тому

      Will do! Also, did you grow your cucamelons using the Kratky method?

    • @SoothingLeaf
      @SoothingLeaf  7 років тому

      Yes I grow all of my plants using the kratky method works so well I don't want to stop. Did however recently buy a solar powered air pump to test out. LED lights would not recharge the power so now will test out with my T5 lights and know for sure if it works or not. If not may have to buy an additional one and let it charge by the window while second one is running. So technically this will be a DWC (deep water culture grow) just the kratky method plus air pump.

      Checked other comments, and he said that he had little to no fruit at all. So no, this method wasn't it successful at all by the looks of it. That's why I grow mine in large pots in regular soil, so that I can move them outside when the weather allows it (when temperatures get a bit more stable and before blooming season) and let the bees do their work. 100% succes rate here, hundreds of fruits. And by using that method you can take the plant inside when the season is done and let the plant (roots) overwinter inside in the slightly heated greenhouse. That way you get a head start next season. :)

      The male flowers are not even open, When they open the will look like the female. Ive tried to hand pollinate the open males with the open females, And still no luck. I’ve read most of the times, the plants start slow, Like setting in, and fruiting. I’m just letting mine go. They grow WILD! Holy cow, I didn’t realize this was 3 years old.

    Yo, I tried to pollinate one like this today, but the female kind of just dropped off... any ideas why? Was pretty gentle but as I put the male one in the female just fell off. It was my first try. I'm not using hydro or LEDs they're just in an extremely bright window trailing down from a hanging plastic bottle onto a little rope ladder trellis made of sticks and string.

    • @freewaybaby
      @freewaybaby 7 років тому +3

      Since you were gentle, if the bloom dropped, it was going to anyway and wouldn't have pollinated.. .Best time to do this is as soon as they bloom. It takes watching them fairly closely as you only have a day (maybe 2) to pollinate 'em. Keep trying.

    Did you pull the petals off of the male flower? If not, why not use a male flower that has opened?

    • @SoothingLeaf
      @SoothingLeaf  2 роки тому

      It was all trial and error at that point. Growing indoors was a bit of a challenge with getting them to pollinate. I noticed the method used here was not working too well. After I added use of a circulating fan it helped spread out the pollen more naturally and things began to pollinate with a great success rate. It is a very easy plant to grow and they taste incredible imo. If you are growing outdoors this plant will take over and you will have so many cukes growing. Indoors is a bit more of a challenge but with the right created environment it will also do well. I would recommend growing it in a tent or more of an enclosed area to help pollen more around the enclosure. Best of luck with your plants and happy growing 💚💚

    • @karelbadjakker1296

      @@zenitsu289 hahah yes, just have patience. Eventually the male flowers will open and pollination by bees will start. I places some flowers next to the cucamelons to speed up the the bee recognition process. But you need to take the first female cucamelon losses for granted...

      They will not grow and begin to die off shortly after (You can eat them at that stage pretty good but to small to really enjoy fully). I have had very little to no success getting this plant to develop fruit. Wish I had some bees to help out!

      Hey bud I actually found a different method, not sure if it'll work but, what I did was find a male flower on the cusp of opening with yellow petals visible - then I dissected it with a small sewing needle by crushing and teasing it in half. Inside are usually 3-4 male organs which I then separated and implanted one by one inside the female flowers with the needle. It's like artificial insemination almost but I'm not sure if it works, maybe you should try it.

    Just a video of you basically showing youre plant off, you didnt even successfully pollinate the thing, you rip the head off an unbloomed male and shove it into the female flower like it did anything but actually harm the male flower. i mean i like how you have it set up, but this is pointless lol
