  • In this episode of Esoterica we are going to introduce and explore the Hermetic Writings that survive outside the classic Greek tractates and the Latin Asclepius. Here we discover a staggering diversity of texts and traditions all of which give us a better glimpse onto the the spiritual philosophy of Hermeticism. In this episode we explore the Three Hermetic tracts in the Nag Hammadi Library, the copious Stobaean Fragments, Armenian Hermetic Definitions, Oxford and Vienna Papyri and an overview of the General Fragments and Testimonies about Hermes Trismegistus and the "Way of Hermes."

    I want to thank you so much for these wonderful, scholarly videos on the subject of Hermeticism. As a 20-year-practicing Hermeticist now moving into a clerical role for a small neopagan community, it provides a useful tool to explain and expound my own beliefs.

    Keep the esoteric knowledge flowing Dr. Sledge! I just hope the masses will start to absorb it as well rather than only us mere God seekers. Reconnecting with our spiritual selves through the multiple paths to the Godhead may be the very panacea needed to preserve humanity's future.

    Hey man. This information is fascinating. It honestly would all seem pretty crazy and not possible but as a child I experienced something profound. The entity I interacted with looked exactly like what summerian cultures worshipped as deity's. Reptilian looking humanoid being. It was wearing a robe and it touched my face. I will never forget it

    • @TheEsotericaChannel
      @TheEsotericaChannel  3 роки тому +3

      Sounds surreal - though I don't think the Sumerian gods were 'reptilian looking' - most just look like people.

      @@TheEsotericaChannel yeah I believe you're right. I'm not too sure on the specifics of the culture and what they called these beings, but this event of mine took place in 2000 when I was a kid. No cellphones or computer to know about the incredible expansive universe, and all its ancient wonders. My mind hadn't been filled with the potential to manifest this type of ordeal.

      @@TheEsotericaChannel kind of mind boggling though, how much allegorical symbolism is meant to be interpreted by those who understand internal alchemy and transmutation

      Somewhat in relation to this, but not regarding Hermeticism perse, I had a similar experience of a Christian bent: in my dream, I went through numerous, strange scenes (one was an empty swimming pool full of apple cores) and in time I was chased to an archaic looking altar by a man suited in black. Before me was a robed figure with ram's horns, and holding up a goblet and scroll he said the word "negatas". When I woke up, I had identical, long patches of hair completely missing from both my forearms, in a sort of upward, arrow shape. Weird stuff, I tell ya!

      They were called the anunaki. Reptile gods...what are the chances of this. Perhaps the mythology has more basis in truth rather than myth

    Wonderful! I remember being cautioned about diving into *_The Way of Hermes_* as a first book on Hermeticism, but I loved it. It took me some time to get through, but I was greatly gratified. Other books recommended were by authors writing ABOUT Hermeticism (I'll save those for later). I would be interested in your comparison of the Hermetic texts to the Kybalion.

    • @TheEsotericaChannel
      @TheEsotericaChannel  3 роки тому +5

      That's odd - I would say that would be the first place I would tell folks to look. It's a great translation. The Kybalion is pretty much 'hermetic' in name only but since it has become so popular and has now become linked with 'hermeticism' I think it is important to cover it as such. Future episode!

      It's ok but very outdated. Certainly fine for casual reading (and somewhat more aesthetically pleasing) but not really viable for academic or scholarly use.

    I remember when I finally found a copy of Thrice Greatest Hermes a couple of decades ago. I knew a guy who had Charles Williams' personal annotated copy, and he talked like it was a really great book. I read maybe the first 40 pages, skimmed the rest, and tossed it. No wisdom to be found there---none at all. Don't buy into the hype.
