Dexter seasons 1 through 4 were great. Season 5 and 6 were fine. 7 was better and season 8 was just bad. But it doesnt ruin the past seasons as much as thrones did.
I watched the series again recently. I think many miss the fact that maybe he was never a sociopath. He was traumatized and no one ever tried to fix him and he was sent down the wrong path. Each season you see him get better and you realize he could have lived a normal life.
I would have kept the Lumberjack Ending but instead of him going home, sitting down and looking off into the Camera with the unanswered question of What’s Next? It would’ve been better if he walked into a Bar and ordered a Drink.... well Dexter sits there waiting, he notices a Guy down at the end of the bar with a Girl on his Lap... He takes a sip of his drink and looks off at the man once more discreetly, and in his head he say’s - Tonight’s The Night, and it’s going to happen again and again! Dexter looks up at the Camera and smirks as it fades to Black, Has to happen, he says!🔥 Perfect Tribute to episode 1 as being the first words he says, and the last!💥
This is exactly what I have been missing from the finale. For me, personally, how it ended was ALMOST perfect. This was my favourite show and I said to everyone, after what happened to Deb, there was no way that Dex would have felt ok or comfortable having a good and jolly life. It was the final straw for him. He needs to kill to survive and function as well. And while I was semi ok with the looking at the camera end scene, this would have been 100% without a doubt exactly what it needed. Shout out to you! And that’s how I’m always going to imagine it ended in my head from now on 👍🏼
That would be clever, but might not fit with the arc of humanizing him with emotions, like guilt and regret. I got the sense at the end he might have no ability to avoid killing - but his actual conscience had kicked in, beyond the code of Harry. The enjoyment of it would have gone away and it would be miserable - or at least require some narrative to explain how he slipped back into his old ways. I'm glad they didn't do that though. It seems like what they actually did was to leave him in a void of depression, where he accepts being ruined and never being able to connect again.

What an amazing job they did with this show - even if I am a little disappointed by the ending. Part of what they did so well throughout the series was to break with all the expectations they set. I was surprised by the direction they took it many times. I understand the desire not to give us a happily ever after finale, but I feel like what they chose missed the mark a little bit. I think they resolved his desire to kill, though possibly left him with a "need" to kill that he simply can't avoid... Dexter was giving into his desires, which he knew was bad for himself and everyone around him. So he left. It came from him breaking the rules his father set for him, which sent him on the downward spiral. Breaking more rules, and slowly giving in to his desires.
i cry every time i watch the final scenes with dex and debra.....the final season is choppy...especially between bro and sis...but that ending is so heartbreaking.
My absolute favorite show. Six months before the show was announced, I was watching CSI and had a good convo with my brother about a serial killer CSI and how they could get away with it. When Dexter aired, my scenario came true and watched the show religiously.
Netflix should make a Dexter movie like they did with Breaking Bad. Dexter actually needs a good ending. Breaking bad had one of the best endings of TV history and they decided to make a movie we didn’t need. If anything it kinda ruined Breaking Bad for me. I disliked the ending to Dexter and it would be so awesome if they made a film of him fleeing from Miami Metro or something
I saw someone post on Reddit I think about making a spin-off of dexter where Hannah teaches Harrison the code and Harrison goes back to Miami and starts to recreate the bay harbor butcher killings to learn more about his father and while that's going on dexter hears about the killings and it makes him come out of retirement which in the end he learns that it is Harrison. I probably explained that terribly but I hope you get the point.
i understand that dexter feels like he is just gonna hurt more people because he couldn’t save debra but he shouldn’t have left harrison and ritas kids alone
A drastic difference from the books, I love Darkly Dreaming Dexter (following books are a bit iffy, but still fun), but there is not conflict, he is a cold blooded serial killer who doesn't want to be caught and the code is part of his routine
Rita's death was definitely a shocker, one of the few times in life I actually sat up during a show in shock.. Season 4 was incredible.. One can only hope we get that kind of excitement from the return.

Love the series of Dexter but hated the final episode? They should have killed Dexter off in the final one?
Didn't really explain the ending much, but it does make me want to find the time to watch Dexter again.
i cry every time i watch the final scenes with dex and debra.....the final season is choppy...especially between bro and sis...but that ending is so heartbreaking.
Anyone else heard the Arthur “Miller” at 4:50??
I suffered through this as I suffered through the damn show. With no feelings other than anger and despair.
Really wish they had made more than 4 seasons; really felt like there was more story to be had here, but at least they ended on a high note.
Season 7 was the last good thing the show did
Arguably the greatest TV show of all time! I really do wish that they will go ahead and make a movie.
Only TV show ever that I rewatched. 3 times all together!
Titles are always misleading on this channel. This is more of an overview of dexter than anything.
I still can’t get over debs death
Sadly, we'll probably not see another Dexter series. I was hooked.
A drastic difference from the books, I love Darkly Dreaming Dexter (following books are a bit iffy, but still fun), but there is not conflict, he is a cold blooded serial killer who doesn't want to be caught and the code is part of his routine
When you get the age he was wrong when his mother was murdered in the first 30 seconds, you already lost.
Rita's death was definitely a shocker, one of the few times in life I actually sat up during a show in shock.. Season 4 was incredible.. One can only hope we get that kind of excitement from the return.
