Thanks to all of you that have posted. I do some history searching and it is great to see all the interest in Racine. I tell you there are many people that have memories of these buildings. We do need to preserve some of these memories. Thanks for putting this back into the youtube news
If I was rich I'd turn this place in to a hotel. A million dollar view of beautiful sunrises. A missed opportunity. Make it a destination hotel. Good food, day spa, upscale store, indoor pool for year round use, next to Downtown, etc. I'm sure it'd take millions to update everything, but the city wants more people coming & they need to help people accomplish that. With Racine in between Milwaukee & Chicago we're in a great place. Some of those yachts parked in the harbor (yes I know it's docked-I just like saying parked-lol) from other countries they might get more people visiting. There's music, festivals, art fairs, etc. close by (Racine, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Chicago, & surrounding areas) that would be easy to get to. Yep missed golden opportunity here.
I remember when it was built and it was kind of a homeless place back in the 70's I spent time there when I got out of the service no one else wanted us
Corrections to this video. YMCA of Racine has 6 locations, the Bray Center, Sealed Air, Riverside, the Water Park on Ohio St., Family Services of Racine and finally their main office. This building is scheduled to be torn down so they can build a state of the art new facility in its place.
@@Fir3Chi3f No way! The Sealed Air facility is basically brand new and way better than this one. I still love this one though and have a lot of memories there.
Used to go here from time to time in high school: The cafeteria had a nice view of the lake. Unfortunately the building has not aged well and it's really huge: It's really just time to go.
Sad. I belonged to the Y when a Freshman/Sophomore in HS in the early 80s. Used to play basketball with friends their after school, usually in the small gym. Also used the weight room and pool a lot. Good times. Sad to see this.
I took swim lessons here as a kid in the early 90s.. brother had a birthday party here and I swam some laps here. Sad to see this happen. It was so conveniently located. :(
what's sad is that this place has been completely destroyed on the inside head to toe and there's mold everywhere so for anyone trying to go there now bring masks and be careful
Granted it moved to another location but the previous location is creepy. Looks like a mental hospital of sorts. Good to see my followers are back after 2 years idle.
pretty sad to see I lived near by as a kid in the 60s it was a great place you could just drop in play pool, open gym and swimming all kinds of team sports I had swim lessons there so did my kids
@@UrbexAPeakInside Yeah maybe a little too intense here. Is this place gone for good, or just closed for the pandemic? Seems like most the building is still intact and in good shape...
First, I live in Racine County. I did a video on the southern center and Questioned if I had enough information, compared to this I did a great job. A pile of what ever might be a homeless person?? You titled this a peek inside?? You could of said something that this place was open until March of 2020 when everything got closed and this didn't reopen. We are talking about 6 months. Seal Air is the 2nd Y in Racine County. You have no information on anything. You are filming glass from a broken window and that is your clam to fame?? Abandoned?? No closed due to covid. I think they use to have Temp housing on the upper floors for a while. Some of these buildings are cheaper to remove and rebuild because of codes. Who want to rent something with only 2 outlet plugs in a room?? I don't know if this might be a case but you have to look at what upgrades would need to be made compared to what was standard in 1960 I believe the year was. I use to belong to the YWCA 2 blocks down. Peek inside?? You walked around the outside.
I appreciate your honesty. If I got info wrong, thanks for pointing it out. To be honest there isn't a whole lot of information regarding this property. Its a Peak Inside. Its a play on words to mountain peak. My logo is my cat Gypsy with mountain peaks in the background. May he RIP. Racine is def struggling. That is why I live in Greendale. It reminds me of the affluent masterplanned suburb, the Woodlands in Houston. Have you visited?
@Lynn Baum....wow so you troll videos to insult kids and your 1,000% wrong. Facts 1. This building was closed by YMCA May 2019 sold to Cardinal Capital to raze and rebuild a new ymca with public housing. 2. This plan was rejected by the city of Racine on Sept 20th, 2019. 3. Ymca strictly moved the exercise equipment to their riverside location of main street that they are renting. (Behind Jimmy John's) 4. As of Jan 2020 all sales and plans fell thru and its currently been abandoned to rot. 5. February of 2020 power was cut from the building. 6. There is currently a homeless group that hangs out behind the property under the canopy. There are numerous broken windows in different stages of boarded up throughout. Ad of today Aug 2021. Ymca has no plans to move back, property is abandon and for sale as of a few weeks ago. Go pick on someone else when you are certainly as clueless as you claim him to be. BTW I live in Racine about 10 blocks away from the building. Knowledge and Facts are important when your going to act like a know it all.
Why not convert it for homeless people or homeless vets. Use donations or some of the political money that is wasted.

Thanks for watching. Yes I want to do some more with Racine in the future. Do you know any other places you would like to see?

That idea sounds promising but I think the city would have to get much bigger.
It really is a great view. I think it is the library close to it.
someone tried to turn the space into condos but the deal fell through
@@rootvalley2 Well that sucks.
We need a new mayor of this City. The politicians have run the city into the ground. Meanwhile property taxes have gone through the roof.
He's super corrupt.... well never be rid of him. He destroys anyone who dares running against him.
I use to work in that building with the gold looking roof! It’s a venue, I catered weddings and other party’s! Love the vid
Thanks. Hopefully I can get in some time.

Really?! We wanted to get a membership with them because of this location and haven't since we thought they were closing it up for good!
@@Fir3Chi3f No way! The Sealed Air facility is basically brand new and way better than this one. I still love this one though and have a lot of memories there.
Thanks for the heads up. Glad to hear this.
Actually all plans have been abandoned will not reopen and currently for sale.
@@seanreed6916 I think the Sealair was built for the sealair employees and then sealair pulled out of Racine.

That was cool. When those 3 cars rolled up I thought you got busted 😄
Oh my God didn't notice that.

Im 17 now and live in Chicago, I used to live in racine and I have sooooooooo much memories and nostalgia in the daycare centers
They used to do dope ass concerts for 2 can goods in the basement lol

i learned how to swim in this building as a kid. always sad to drive past it now and see all the broken windows
I remember swimming here good times now its gone :(
Dude I live here and never knew thats abandoned
Whats the music you used. Chilling, yet intoxicating.
What’s with the weird music. Seriously?
I love the music.
what's sad is that this place has been completely destroyed on the inside head to toe and there's mold everywhere so for anyone trying to go there now bring masks and be careful
how long ago did you get in?
Why even bothering you can't get inside
You actually can me and my friends went earlier today you just have to go to the back and there is a window broken
I used to take swimming lessons here as a little kid. Let me tell you, it's seen better days.
Abandoned.... does that mean you could probably pick this place up for free? Who do I contact?
No
Our esteemed Mayor..good luck -hes turned down several legitimate offers because he won't make enough money off of it
The day a Y gets abandoned is not good in the slightest. That’s a rough looking building.
Granted it moved to another location but the previous location is creepy. Looks like a mental hospital of sorts.

Urbex- A Peak Inside Well I was subscribed but accidentally had it personalized. It happened to come across my feed and was curious.
Starting backup again more videos to come :)
@@UrbexAPeakInside I would have to do some looking but I do believe you could rent the room for the week or month.

Def do. It's a shame they won't let anybody in to explore.
Urbex- A Peak Inside yeh I bet never knew it closed down

I guess it's not fun to stay at that YMCA.
The Village People, they're a stone cold group.
Funny!
Actually I’ve never seen a video on Wisconsin
Waiting for some content inside a building.
You will have to wait long. It didnt have an easy way to get in.

That music was intense.
The music were two songs that were dubbed together.

That location is currently closed forever. The operations moved to the 2nd location.
i went there for summer camp
