Full automation is coming, don’t listen to these guys.
Humans will maintain the robots, design them, and work alongside them. We’re a long long way from robots repairing robots and even then in most cases a human will end up being better, cheaper or faster for many jobs. We have some time before we reimagine society as a socialist utopia when there’s full automation 😂

It’s coming. Politicians should make minimum wage for fast food workers even higher. That’s going to encourage fast food restaurants to really make this the reality.
Only if UBI s coming, because even though they can make more profit from the robots (of course) than they take surplus value from the worker the workers are still needed at the point of sale to purchase the commodities. And if that dynamic happens capitalism changes forever and is essentially not capitalism any longer.

Cost of the machine and maintenance over time. My guess is the robot cost 40k. It could reduce cost perhaps but it depends on some factors. Otherwise it may end up costing the same.

They have to pay for the robots, the restaurant, the ingredients, etc. With a new technology things are always more expensive in the beginning. Battery operated power tools is a good example. In their inception, they were niche and expensive, but now there are lines of them for any budget, and what is primarily on the shelf for sale. Same with LED light fixtures. When they were new tech, they were expensive. Now you can get all sorts of LED fixtures or bulbs for a reasonable price. Huge high tech TVs are cheap now, and so on and so forth.

Actually is quite unnecessary if that restaurant has less than 60 sites. The Assembly Bill 1228 is very specific and doesn't impact mom pop shops at all.

If we don't eat at these places and only eat at restaurants with humans cooking, serving, etc, we can save jobs. We do have power as consumers. Also, don't use self check out, only use tills with actual people. That's what we do here in Germany.

Fast food workers unexpectedly get sick or quit all the time. No difference. Well, actually, probably much more common than this machine breaking down.
Robot arms are put through rigorous stress test and before being put on the market Same as car warehouses with robot arms. Yes eventually they can break but the chances are 0.3% with the stress test that they do and normal maintenance done
I wouldn't buy food in any restaurant that has a robot instead of a human being.

And the companies will seemingly make more profit initially because instead of profiting at point of production from taking surplus value from the laborer, variable capital, they now can take all that the robot produces, they have to invest more into the fixed capital (the robot and extra commodity production), so overall it's a strain. Check out Marxs theory of tendency of prices to fall.

It's useless. The only reason to use robot is that they can work 24 hours a day continuously. Restaurant doesn't operate this way.
that's a fair point and key to the original use of robotics in manufacturing. However, tech upgrades in other industries (ie farming) replaced a large quantity of laborers at one time. So, even though operational hours were limited benefits were gained.
Not true. Need several fry cooks for a single restaurant. They need to be scheduled and managed. They need to be paid a living wage for the area. Don't need to do any of that for the robot. Let's say it costs $500k and lasts 10 years. That will be cheaper than the cost of two full time fry cooks over 10 years.
