Why do we even need record companies anymore? It's not like physical distribution is still popular. They're so unnecessary to the music industry these days.
@@pessien8474I agree with @luwl labels are unnecessary these days. I’m a music producer from the industry that went indie. There are tons of indie artists making 6 to 7 figures a year from streaming with no label. You can make bangers nowadays with just a laptop and a microphone, so no studio time needed (still requires skill, but you can learn for free on the internet). Advertising, it’s all about social media like TikTok, Instagram and UA-cam which is completely free (just requires your time and effort). Getting your music on streaming platforms costs about $20-80 a year with a music distributor (and that’s a flat rate, upload unlimited songs). My indie music catalog generates $3k a month of passive income from music streaming alone, it’s not a lot but it’s not too shabby for no label and one year worth of work. All done from the methods mentioned above. The indie artists making 6-7 figures a year also use the same methods. So yes, I think a label is unnecessary nowadays. I produce beats and sell them to artists online. I've noticed lately that a lot of accounts have been using my beats with content ID and put just some weird trash vocals on them and dump them on spotify and other streaming platforms. They even use youtube content ID, which allows them to take ad revenues from any other artist who used those beats on youtube, including my own videos from which they stole those beats.
Also kind of terrifying that he can say "The music industry is going to throw the book at him" like they have any real legal authority to push for more serious charges, and that statement is normal for us. In a sane world, he would get normal charges and the size of the corporation he screwed over wouldn't matter. But deep pockets make for deep influence.

@@stanvanillo9831 basically spotify is ai genertating music and profiles and playlists and pushing them to the front page. this is from what i heard, i could be wrong
Well, no. It's not what Spotify is doing. I get people hate the Man, but try to be at least honest about the situation. It's large scale fraud. Advertisers pay to advertise to people, not bots. By going ham with his greed he put a spotlight on millions of dollars in ad revenue that resulted in 0 dollars of purchased goods. Charlie did a gamer supps ad at the start of the video. If they paid him for that and 0 people used his code because all his viewers are fake, but he's.pretending like they're real, he's frauding the company that paid for the ad.
Well, what AI uses for learning & creating its products, might be considered stolen, but at least as of right now idk if any of that is classified as stolen or illegal.
I'd argue another major reason Smith got caught is because he had help, a necessity of how early he was to the concept. With AI and AI tools as they are now, you could do the exact same thing with zero human assistance, no AI music company contacts needed. Nobody would realistically need to know what you're doing except you.
Its not the music industry, its capitalism! The music industry is just an extreme example. The people who make things do not get rewarded in this world, the people with the business connections and capital from mummy and daddy to exploit it are always the ones with money.
Absolutely. Ticket prices are disturbingly high. I never blame the artist for that unless, say they make their “cheap seats” like $500 when there’s 10k seats. Like…. Bruh. Good artists make sure they pick venues their fans can make it to (they know their fans, down to how much they probably have in their bank accounts). My favorite band, Fall Out Boy, try to make it so we can see their concerts cause they want us to be there. They know they could take all our money and hike prices, but they actually care about all of us being able to make it. I wish I could just show up to the concert and hand my cash straight to them, but I know they gotta pay the light guys, and the sound guys, and the venue…. Bleh. lol
@@JustAFace_InTheCrowd What does them trying actually mean here? It's great if they actually are taking measures, but what I managed to find with a quick search was people on their reddit forum not being too happy about 200 dollars/ticket kind of prices...
I cannot remember who was talking about this, but it is heavily suggested spotify itself does this too, not just outisde entities using the platform. There was an entire playlist that was only the one EXACT same song, but every listing had a different song name and artist name.
I've had Warner music try to claim my music upon upload. Spotify uses AI tracks and bots themselves. And pay royalties disproportionately to higher grossing artist. Meaning revenue from smaller artists actually goes to Taylor swift instead. Who stole first? This is just a prime example of "a big club and you ain't in it"
@Mi_Mono I got to say this but looking at your profile picture, do you use ai to generate “your music”? If so, Spotify might have detected it and gave the revenue to the artists that ai was using to make them. The case in the video seems to be harder to detect because the ai was rudimentary since it’s older than the present day ai generation technology.
What im mad about is that they worried about music but didnt worry about ART as a WHOLE. even hand made art! tons of REAL people aren't gettin money for their rent because AI is taking it away from them, posting fake ai "art", fake ai "animations", fake ai commissions. PEOPLE DONT EVEN BELIEVE REAL ART ISNT AI HALF OF THE TIME. it pisses me off, i had also seen a thing about AI soon being able to make games. AI is doing alot of harm. I dislike it.
Music and movies. The dynamic duo for corruption and crime through and through when it comes to media. Genuinely a sad state of affairs that somehow has been normalized.
Anything to do with creativity always has shit going on. Authors barely get paid shit without majority of it going to publishers (we have Amazon now but the problem with that is everyone wants to do it and you have to fight competition)
@@fenrifegads5571 I mean, the Arts will always and have always leaned more liberal. the base definition of art is usually to push social norms to get recognized from the pack. I cant really think of a time period where the arts weren't pushing hard to change the current world view.
And games. The gaming industry is evil. You'd be shocked to see how many times employees/employers for big ass companies outright show corruption. The fact that Sakurai of Smash talked about being worked so hard he'd sleep in the office and somehow no one really freaked out about it is depressing. Or how companies are bragging about crunch hours like it's a good thing. Don't even get me started on the ActiBlizz shit.

I literally gave up my music career due to how horribly corrupt and inhumane it is behind the scenes. Once I had to begin to start doing bad things to others, or allow things to happen to me just to get a deal to go thru, or a contract to get signed, or a song to release somewhere specific, I quit it all. Have multiple friends that quit for similar reasons, and others that rather enjoyed hurting others to progress with their music career(s). Sad to see how the music industry does to people, and the people within it doing to others. Now I just work on becoming the absolute best at what I do for myself, and out of pure passion. It'd be great to have made thousands and a comfortable life off it, but I'm not someone that could live that lifestyle knowing I tore others down for it.
Nothing is being implied because no opinion was given. This was my experience in relation to the topic. Nor did I mention anything regarding success and working with the industry being mutually exclusive, or at all. Just adding that the music industry is generally pretty bad.
The creative world is fucked in general. The casual mistreatment of animators. Using AI to replace editors, background artists, audio engineers and even writers. Forcing game teams to crunch horrid hours. The normalization of forcing musicians and actors to do sexual acts to gain a career. It's been happening openly for decades and just keeps getting worse. I legitimately think anyone trying to get into any creative job is either straight up ignorant, absurdly passionate and/or are just prepared to eat shit on the fucked up world of it for the sake of the money/passion.

Spotify already does this internally. If a space marine character does this its illegal but if Spotify does it it's totally okay 😇
This was a major issue in the metal community this week, a ton of bands had random AI songs added to their discography had a ton of bands make statements
The music industry was in trouble the moment it got saturated by millions of songs being put up every single day to the point where the only thing pushed these days who is already popular or trendy, and with the focus on quantity not quality.
The creation of AI really was like opening up Pandora’s Box. It’s opened the door to a lot of good things, but also to a lot of VERY BAD things. It’s easier to scam now than ever before and it’s threatening people’s jobs. Not just musicians and singer, but it also threatens the jobs of artists, animators, and actors. And as it continues to become more advanced I’m not sure what the future holds. There definitely needs to be restrictions placed and very SOON!
You are correct, but the most thing that is threatening people's ability to get jobs are individuals who don't believe that certain people who are incapable of doing certain things should be allowed to have jobs.. Use art for therapy, or for fun, to disable to be able to physically do it yourself but still want to make a career out of it everybody else is allowed to use technology but you you got lazy individuals calling and wearing a suit and making the character that's pre-built by the unity engine move making art. Even the 100% of it is generated by the AI running the machine. They still get to copyright that BS but you don't if you're less than a fortunate to be able to not be able to move or not be able to afford that kind of tech.
ironically the vast majority of failures in the entertainment industries for the last decade has all been caused by real ass grown adult humans. real "human beings" created Concord, Acolyte, the Disney SW trilogy, SSKTJL, the current Marvel phase, Drake, etc. given the chance I think the AI would question the people that made those for making such anti-customer products

I will say as a musician myself, this really hurts. I am no where near where I want to be, but at the same time I’m not going to go out of my way to pay for streaming services to try to make me famous. That really defeats the purpose of trying. Our royalties suck.
This is so gross. The music industry is worried their infinite money glitch will be ruined so they're going to ruin the life of someone who dabbled in the money glitch.
This is why I’m quitting music. The amount of work and time you have to put in to just to see nickels and dimes and all the barriers the companies put for independent music artists is outrageous.

They’ve forced themselves into relevancy. They realize they were becoming obsolete, and instead of reinvesting the money that they earned through all the decades from music, into the aviation industry, automobiles banking, they decide to stay and force themselves to be important in 2024 when we all have Instagram, UA-cam accounts and our own platforms.

I imagine now days you have to have undeniable talent to make it past some of the more severe predatory practices.

I don’t know who pandora is or what’s in her box, but I got Robby out of there and Kreese is in jail. That’s two wins are far as I’m concerned
You are correct, but the most thing that is threatening people's ability to get jobs are individuals who don't believe that certain people who are incapable of doing certain things should be allowed to have jobs..

ironically the vast majority of failures in the entertainment industries for the last decade has all been caused by real ass grown adult humans. real "human beings" created Concord, Acolyte, the Disney SW trilogy, SSKTJL, the current Marvel phase, Drake, etc. given the chance I think the AI would question the people that made those for making such anti-customer products
