Being a new Ural owner, this all makes sense and he describes it very well. One initial comment from owning one, the suspension leaves a lot to be desired. Crude is the best term to describe it.
HIya, very interesting video thank You, But rather you than me matey I would never go in a sidecar, even the thought of it terrifies me. So thanks for being there for us I loved it.
I have a 1991 Dnepr mt16 here in Wales which looks similar, but is quite a different beast to ride, in that it is 2-wheel drive on-road machine with a diff, so a lot of the bias is not there when accelerating and even braking. Down side is if you get the sidecar up in the air, it gets quite dangerous as the now fast spinning wheel lands on the floor again. Both the Ural and 2-wheel drive Dnepr have their advantages and disadvantages, and having owned and ridden both, I still don't prefer one over the other. I've also owned IMZ 350 Jupiter outfits in the past and a IMZ planeta sport that was great fun as a solo but would make a rubbish outfit. Excellent video, very informative and well put together. Thanks/Diolch.
I appreciate you thought it was good...I thought I did well on it too but the video was a flop really. You know your stuff with this subject then...Yes I can imagine it getting "interesting" when that spining whell hits the ground again....I bet its a right laugh!"
Great stuff ER Very popular machine not cheap He wa wrong tho with the kick start as you know the kick start on British bikes were on the right not the left Cracking 😊😊
If they didn't have all those facy European parts they would be a lot cheaper. Nitron shocks are $2,500 a set.Heidenau tires are more expensive than Duros. Stainless steel exhaust system costs $1,600. Ducati ignition system is $500.EFI adds $1,500. Nippondenso generator + Brembo disc brakes. All of the Russian parts on my 25 years old URAL are still good. The should make a economy model along side the ones with all the bells and whistles. 2 wheel drive costs $2,500. That bike could be sold for $10,000-$12,000 for the cheaper model. Disc brake models have the same stopping distance as the drum braked model. Mikuni carbs had to be replaced because of ethanol gas corroded them. People complain about the ride even with the Nitron shocks,l have no problems with the Russian shocks.l go 50-55 MPH just cruising around. Of course there are all the accessories that you can put on the bike like luggage racks, spare tire etc. l like the stainless steel exhaust system but it is a want not a need. I like my Duro sidecar tires. Don't need fancy German tires. I like carberaters. No fuel pump needed either. Cheap and good value for the money 💰. Used bikes are best. No depreciation.
30 odd years ago (jeez, is it really that long ago!!!) I used a Jawa combination over winter due to shiftwork and lack of public transport. I think I am still suffering ptsd to this very day.....🫢😨😱
A great intro and overview of the different techniques needs and why, very interesting. I've always been slightly interested as nice to have something a little different, surprised at the price tag though. Thanks for posting
Sort of suits you TBH! 😂 I had a few years doing the long distance trials on an outfit, the sidecar quite a bit different though, just a basic perch for a seat, mainly standing up. Great fun! 😊
These bikes are basically copies of German Army BMW's that were captured on the Eastern Front during WWII with the engines being virtually unchanged from the original bikes .
Nice to have you back Phil. I do wonder how your getting on. Sorry to hear your going through it still...Yes the idiots are still here and knocking out the vids. Get well soon xx
Nice one Exmouth. Definitely a different experience and the rider did a good job of explaining and demonstrating everything. So it looks like I "only" have to go to Portugal to experience riding one for myself - food for thought 🤔 I do think that they are taking the Mick with the pricing though. It's not as if the bike is full of expensive tech. I mean, it's just metal and an engine with three wheels really. If they lowered the price they would probably sell a lot more because I don't believe that the sidecar outfit market is as niche as they think it is. I know at least three people myself who would love to have one but are put off by the price Ural ( one of the easiest ready to ride outfit options ) charge. Maybe RE could do a factory sidecar combination one day ? There is definitely a market for sidecar outfits but there are no reasonably priced options at the moment. Shame. Ruby would love to come out with me if I had one ! Cheers Exmouth, hope you are enjoying Bognor 🍦 El Outro 👍🏻
I think your right, sidecars could be much more popular than they are now, we just need a run of the mill outfit. BSA have teamed up with Watson to build there's, I would hope RE have a plan some where there. Ruby needs to be part of the soosage buying run. They are fun things but yes with the amount they sell dosent bring down the price. Custom money for a no custom bike. Eloutro from Boggy Bogner... Ti's a bit wet here😏😎
@@exeterrider Bummer ! I hope the weather improves for you and the crew Steve 👍🏻 I might go out and admire my Meteor later 😛 I know, that's called rubbing it in 👹😂 Have a nice holiday with the family, plenty of time the rest of the year for motorcycle related nonsense ! I really hope that RE or somebody makes a factory outfit for sensible money because I think adding one to a solo bike will be a real PITA with regard to getting it through the MOT, getting it approved in the paperwork and all of that. I've no idea how complicated that would be here in France, but my guess is DAMN complicated. For that reason, an already homologated, ready to register, factory outfit would be the dream ticket for me. I'd probably sell kidneys to get one ( not my own of course ! ). Cheers matey, El Outro and Roby
Rob was waffling on about how the bike works but I was too distracted by the girl in the short shorts. I may be epic, but I'm not made of wood 😅BTW, I was not expecting that price tag.

Side cars have always been expensive. Price a Watsoñian or a Champion sidecar. Side cars have always been as expensive as the motorcycle that pulls it. Buy used.7 years ago I bought my 1999 URAL Tourist with 4,000+ miles on her for $4,000 in running condition. Replaced some parts over the years due to age but that's normal. Rode her as my primary transportation for 3 years after a leg injury. Sidecars either you love them or you hate them. They take up a lot of space in the garage so if they are unwanted they get sold fast.
I must be honest i was shocked how much these cost. Pity Royal Enfield didn't make these. Seriously, you could get a cracking little sports car or ATV for those prices.
What a surprising renaissance of the Ural sidecar motorcycles. The number of videos from Ural owners has been increasing extremely recently. Can you still buy the Urals in the West? As is well known, the Ural plant is in Russia and the West is currently murdering its own economy with its sanctions on Russia.
No! Really! ER!? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TO ME? buy another bike? I am unsubbing again! I did go to an RE dealership and he thinks he can make a 350 and side car for under 11k.
