  • Today I show how I change bearing in a mower deck spindle. This I for my Stiga Park but the principle is mostly the same. Even though it might seem a bit noisy on the film it really is a huge difference from how it used to be. Thank you for watching!

    Great video and explanations - Helped me quite a bit. Usually the bearings have quite a tight fit so you may need to heat up the bearings and cool the axle.. I used coolant spray that cools down to -55 degrees C.

      Great to hear and heating and cooling is a great idea. I have used that when changing bearings on later cutting decks.

    You have a great way of fixing things even if you don't have all the right tools. I true mechanic and improviser. I was just given for free this model (Stiga Park). The Trans-axle is not working but "free is free".

      Thank you! I actually work with cars so I can bring home a lot of tool but I want to do things with simple tools so that everyone can do the same or be inspired. Regards Nils.

    Good vid man. The spacer inside the hub between the 2 bearings is to support the bearings allow clearance when you tighten the top pulley spindle nut. On my 121m deck the spindles can be pushed in and “float” which is good as the bearings are tight 8n the spindle housing. My 121m deck also has a spacer under neath that sort of dish on the spindle, this also acts like a spacer

    • @NilsKall
      @NilsKall  3 роки тому

      True, if one forget the spacer it will be impossible to tighten the nut that goes through the spindle. Why can the spindles float on the 121 deck? Do you mean that they are not really attached to the deck?

    Question Nils, the belt that drives the blades and hooks to pulley under the seat, it is dfsr to tight to get new belt over each pulley. Do you advise taking the pulley under the seat out and running belt, or is it better to take the pulley off the deck? Doesn't seem to be any other way to get that belt on as there are no tensioner? Also would you know the belt size? My belt is ripped to shreds and unsure of the size.

    • @NilsKall
      @NilsKall  4 роки тому

      Hmm, as I remember there is a spring loaded tensioner. Do you have a different deck? Perhaps with a belt that looks like a timingbelt from a car engine?

    • @NilsKall
      @NilsKall  4 роки тому

      If you are talking about the belt that connects the cutting deck to the middle of the machine that has a tensioner as well. Here is a link to a ilustrated parts list. Regards Nils

      Yes there is a spring tensioner there that puts pressure on the belt but it doesn't aid in installing the belt onto the two pulleys. I can't see a way to get the belt on them without removing a pulley?

    • @NilsKall
      @NilsKall  4 роки тому

      C Coates the belt should be loose enough to put on there without removing a pulley, you probably have the wrong belt, to short. Did you check the belt number against the IPL in the link?

      Unfortunally this cutting deck is too rusty to invest to much time in. This is more "life support" but I really need a better deck. If I find something a bit better I might do a full restore of it and of course a video.

    When should I change a mower deck bearing ? How can I notice a worn bearing ?

    • @NilsKall

      Listen to the sound at 1:20 when i spin one of the pulleys, it should be quiet no make a chouuuuuuummm sound. There is another video where I drive this Stiga Park and I make a comment about the bearing being noisy. In general when I buy a old (+10 years) the bearings are bad so if you have an older mower they probably are due. BUT some mower deck have grease nipples and then the previous owner could have maintained it and it would be fine. The cause of failure is water getting in when you was washing or move in wet grass. That will make the bearing rust and its a done. Regards Nils

      ToxRozzx perhaps slightly in extreme cases. But it could seize and stop moving. Vibrations and noice are most common problems.

      Nils Kall i could also be the high pressure washer forcing water into the bearings

      yes, but I dont think that many cutting deck get washed so often unfortunatly. I will add grease nipples to the spindels of my "new" Husqvarna rider.

      Its called 100m, m as in mulching, there was also a 100b deck, b stands for bakutkast, mening rear ejection. I don’t have a number for it, it’s obsolete, you cant buy it anymore. That is unfortunate because it was a a great cutting deck.

      Ben dover yes that should work, If you have a Park 2000 or a Park 2002 (model not year). Make sure the deck you get has the correct belt pulley, the really old ones have a double pulley with a weird and expensive double belt.
