  • Earn your way into Williams College, which is in Williamstown, Massachusetts, by following the detailed advice that I provide in this video.
    Highlights Discussed:
How to Build a Strong Foundation
Those serious about getting into Williams will first read my article “How to get into the Ivy League - Ethically.” While Williams is not officially an Ivy League school, many of those applying to Williams for Regular Decision will be doing so after having just gotten rejected from an Ivy League school. These are high achieving students, so you need to compete with them. This article sets the table for how to maximize one’s chances of getting into any highly selective college or university: admissions.blog/how-to-get-in...

Williams Supplemental Essay Prompt (Expert Tips Included in Video)
As a residential learning community, Williams believes that some of the most important experiences happen while living and learning alongside those different from oneself. Please describe a time when you learned or grew through the process of interacting with someone whose background, identity, lived experience, or perspective differs from your own. (150-300 words)
    Final Important Note:
Though I didn't mention in the video above, it's worth noting that if you are capable of getting a 1400 or higher on the SAT or 31 or higher on the ACT, you should send your test scores to Williams (as long as it remains test optional). If you are scoring below those numbers, you should talk to me or another expert to determine if your scores would be a net positive or negative for your application.

If you care to read this, I could use some advice. I’ve had a super weird high school experience. I grew up in Japan as an active duty military dependent. My sophomore year I moved back to the states with my dad (he is also active duty, been living in Idaho 10-11th and going into 12th grade this year). I was a horrible student my sophomore year. I gave up on academics, failing nearly all my classes that year with lots of C’s D’s and F’s. This tanked my gpa to a 2.1. My junior year I decided to get my crap together and I got all A’s, won a national debate award, a few other state and regional awards, started 3 clubs at my school, got a part time teaching job at my local middle school, and some other pretty cool stuff. It’s also worth mentioning I am the president/captain of all 4 clubs im in. I really would like to get into a top tier college, but i’m aware my application is weak because of my low gpa, and former stupid life decisions (i’m currently at around a 3.2-3.5 gpa, haven’t started my senior year yet). Do you think it’s even worth my time applying to a top college? Is there any hope for my application? I haven’t had much help with college advice besides the internet, I would greatly appreciate any and all advice I can get.

There is of course hope. You need to also do well during your 12th grade year. Colleges love real Cinderella stories. Good luck!

Williams College let me in 1984 as a foster child living in a group home in Albany, and attending CBA Albany with GPA below 3, and 500/620 SAT. A gift from Jesus. It was the only college I really wanted to be at. So many smart and interesting people. Beautiful nature. My own dorm room all 4 years. Outstanding dining halls and support staff. Great professors. Outstanding coaches. What I'm trying to say is - find a school that resonates with your heart. College is about heart. If you have to go online and ask "what college should I go to?" you've lost the plot. Today, I might chose a tiny Christian College near nature like Westmont College, in Santa Barbara. Also, college circa 2020s is no longer what it used to be. That's why I would stay away from the big schools and ivies today. Also consider cost. Tuition room board was $60,000 for 4 years in 1980s. It's like $330,00 for four years now. Something to consider.

Love your videos. Wish someone would cover LACs in the South. Davidson College, Rhodes College, etc.

A good video. However, I think you are overestimating the advantage of ED for "regular" (or unhooked) applicants at Williams (as well as other NESCAC schools) because Williams admits a large number of athletes as well as URM and legacies, via ED (e.g. remember 33-34% of Willaims students are varsity-level athletes). As a result, the ED admit rate tends to exaggerate chances for "unhooked" applicants.

Great video, but just wanted to clarify that Williams is not "one of the top ranked liberal arts schools", it is the TOP ranked liberal arts school in the U.S., and has been every year since 2004.
    GO EPHS 😉
