At least once a year I go to soak away my sorrows and literally just lie on the edge of the ocean and it is definitely the best therapy. Along with time in the mountains. Can’t beat God’s goodness and creation for healing of ALL kinds of ailments! Thanks for your video therapy👍🏻🙏🏻

I had a thought when you were picking up your HINGED treasures today... I know how the hinges, eventually get too fragile to hold together, and then what do you do, probably let them go their separate ways unless you're into rubber bands. But! That shadow box you're doing for your seahorses? How about doing another showcasing your favorite specimens of the various hinged bivalves you've picked up? Big angel wings, sunray venus, calico clams, cockles, interspersed with smaller specimens and sprinkled with tiny coquinas and rose petal tellins... It would be stunning!

I bought a "replacement" ring at a flea market! I will need to get my regular ring fixed 😌 And I pulled a muscle something horrible. This night was the beginning of an absolutely miserable week for me. There were a few days I couldn't walk. So I was being dead serious when I said I am acutely aware of how lucky I am. I'm all better now but it was pretty scary there for a day or two. Hopefully it won't ever happen again! 🙏🏼

Not sure which east coast you mean, but it is indeed illegal to collect stony coral in the entire state of Florida.

No, that law has been on the books for years. It's to protect our living coral reefs.

It is only illegal to collect finger coral and live coral.
Incorrect. Coral is protected in Florida and it is illegal to collect any stony coral from waters or beaches. "Throughout the state of Florida, the collection of stony corals, fire corals, and the octocorals Gorgonia flabellum and G. ventalina (common sea-fans) is prohibited."

I can attest that the beach improves one’s mental health. There is just something about hearing the surf, picking up shells, and seeing the live critters that brings a sense of peace. One can actually feel problems recede. Physically it is like a big exhale and your body relaxes. I enjoy your videos all year, but during the 6 months we are north with children and grandchildren, the videos transport me back to the sense of peace the ocean brings. Next week we will visit our kids/grandkids who live in FL and for a short time once again experience the peace of the beach. The shells are an awesome bonus. Thank you for taking me on your beach walks.

Bev, I agree! I grew up on the beaches of Southern California. There is no better time than time spent on the beach. The ocean waves wash away all issues, problems, and stress. It is a splendid place to be ❤

The beach has healed me so many times. Especially in the past year. Ive learned how much I love finding and collecting shells and just walking and exploring things is so therapeutic. It’s my most favorite place in the world.☺️

I was only down and out for a few days, but I did have to cancel a shell trip last week. I was not going to be able to walk and get in and out of a boat. It was a reminder (not that I needed it) that if I can't walk, I can't make these videos. I'm so lucky that I am healthy and mobile and that I live where I do. I have so many things that need to go right and I'm one grateful gal 🙏🏼 Can I tell you I already figured I'd get a van and a motorized wheelchair? 🤣
So glad you brought this up, Ilona! Let's treasure Sharmon's videos even if the pattern of a new one every Sunday is interrupted. Getting out on the beach with any kind of mobility issue, even a temporary issue, is hard on us shelters!.

Good evening..... just a question. Why are you always picking up and touching the sea creatures you see. You know it's alive. I would think in my mind that it wouldn't be good for the creature. ???
I mostly leave them alone but sometimes I like to see if I can get a better view of them by holding them. Especially that crown conch. They have little heads and antennas and they are so cute. I wouldn't ever see this if I didn't pick them up so it's a decision I don't make lightly.

Thank you for the quote. It was something I needed to hear. This year has been a hard 1 so far. My oldest son got seriously ill with a heart condition. Surgery was scheduled, but got cancelled when 2 dentists refused to sign off for it. Had to have all his teeth removed & wait for recovery. He had his aortic arch aneurism fixed & aortic valve replaced this past Thursday & is out of ICU now. Still needs to go through 1-2 months of recovery before he can return to work. So, thank you again for the quote.

@@babs629 The moon snail hole when drilled is counter sunk, so those are easy to tell. All their others are a mystery!

When did they tell people to stop collecting coral on the beach? Can we keep what was collected years ago? Is this just a Florida law?
I don't make the laws! I really am not sure what you should do with the coral you have already collected. I found out a few weeks ago it is a law in Florida that you are not allowed to collect stony coral - even if it's dead on the beach. I'm going to stop collecting it since I now know it's not legal.
It doesn’t matter WHEN the coral was collected. You aren’t allow to have any dead (or living) Florida coral in your POSSESSION. Otherwise everybody would just claim the coral was really old and the law would be null

If you would crush the Nacre into a powder or crumble it and use it in a craft like a sea scape decor, that is a really pretty shell to make some kind of craft with, it's close to an abalone shell with the colors. The shark eye has a heart hole in it 😊, it's meant for you to pick up and take home 😍. I made a Christmas gift with pricky cockle shells, I glued them on a shelf and I think I put a large fake pearl in them for an enhanced look, been a few years back. The shells you find are so pretty and amazingly marked with the brightest colors. Nice to meet you Terry 😂...great finds ❤

I noticed lately that when dealing with a live shall you say it’s your rule to not take anything living from the beach, and that’s how you roll. I was wondering if you could instead say that it’s actually illegal to take live shells from the beach. I worry that someone watching your video may find themselves shelling in Florida for the first time and think it’s just your personal rule and that they can decide for themselves, when actually no one is allowed to take live shells from the beach.

Another question: where do you park here? And where is this located exactly because I tend to drive an hour to go to Turner Beach but ft myers is much closer just don't know where to go, where to park, and I don't enjoy a lot of people being around me lol
There is no public parking on the south end of the island. I have a special pass from one of the owners of a condo down there but otherwise it's super tough to get to that part of the beach.

Sorry, but the headline for this video sends a wrong message. You cannot “stop” being depressed. Yes, a beach walk and shelling can be relaxing, motivational, enjoyable, plus everything in between. Still, it’s a temporary distraction, not a cure for depression. Just my opinion…. Nevertheless, your videos are great, and your knowledge of mollusks is exceptional! Turner Beach and Bowman’s Beach are two places I usually visit for shelling (since most of mortals don’t have a boat). Scored a Junonia shell on Turner Beach in 2016. My most prized possession so far. Happy shelling!

Another fun Sunday beach walk, I tried to walk the south end of Ft. Meyers beach in Mar. but couldn't find a place to park. Where can we park on the south end without walking for miles? Hi Judy! There is no public parking down at the south end of the beach. I have a permission to park at a condo complex on the south end, but there is no where to park where you don't have to walk for miles. If I can, I'm going to take the trolley next time and see if that's a viable option for people.
Since I was a little girl, my weekends were always spent at the beach. Whether I was beachcombing with my dad, or just walking along the beach with my mom discussing life's problems and making decisions, the beach has always been there for me as my therapeutic buddy. Even now as a grandmother of three, sometimes I just need a little me time and I head off to spend time at the beach to gather myself in my own little world (or maybe to get away from the chaos of 7 people living at home and hearing reruns of Bluey everyday!!) LOL. Thank you for the 30 minutes of solitude your videos offer when I can't get away.
