Started doing this 10 years ago with a leaky pneumatic tire on a dolly. Never thought of making a YT video about it. Glad someone else finally did to help others. 👍
Much harder work than I ever imagined. Your tie-down strap AND removing the valve stem core made all the difference. thank you!
This worked amazingly well. After fighting a trailer tire for an hour in the 115 degree heat, I found this method with a youtube search. Thank you for this video.
Just used this technique to seat the bead, front tire, Kawasaki Concours.
Thanks bud, saved me from losing it out in my driveway after phucking with the tire for 2 hours.
LOL, I was cursing like a drunken sailor for an hour, too. I know the feeling. Kawai Concours is a serious bike. I rode one, the power is amazing. The only thing I didn't like.....the engine heat was so damn hot, unless you're moving....on a hot summer day.....aye karamba !!!!
👍👍I put 4 new tires on my ATV .This method works so well. It is easy and quick. I will be sharing this video.
You're the man. Thanks for the tip; worked great even with a cheap-o portable compressor and a big offroad 265/70 tire
Worked! Key point is to remove the value stem. And yes having an air compressor that can deliver a good blast. Very helpful video!
Great video! I've done the starter fluid method but this is way better! It also doesn't burn the hair off my legs and forearms!
Thank you so much for this tip! It worked! I did not even want to try the FIRE EXPLOSION method, so thanks again for an alternate way to do it that works great!
Just tried the ratchet strap on wider rear atv tires and worked well. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you for taking the time to teach me this. I appreciate you for sure.
Thank you for that tip! I was able to fix my lawn mower tire in no time. Worked like a charm
Worked like a charm on my riding lawnmower tires. The tire didn't want to seat and I didn't want to exceed the maximum beading PSI so I gave it a few whacks with a dead-blow hammer and it snapped right into place. Great video!
Just tried it and it worked 100% amazing tip thank you
You have the right method.
I discovered another bead sealant that seems to work. Hair Gel, seriously. It's thick, sticky and cheap from the dollar store. Apply it with a 1" paint brush.
Thank you! I was having a really hard time replacing a tubeless scooter tire and strapping it did the trick.
Just used this method (without the stem removal) to fix a wheel on a hand truck. Thank you!
That was a great instructional video!
I'm thinking even I could do that
Thanks Man!
A little squirt of starter fluid with valve stem out of course pops any wheel to bead instantly as well. If mounting car tires for example with big gaps it really hard with strap as it will end up just crushing one side of wheel and not push out uniformly the whole tire. I ended the struggles with starter fluid. 😊
This works great! Here i am out in the snow trying to repair my snowblower flat and im trying starting fluid like 10 times but the inner wall wouldn't seat so then I looked up this video and it worked great! Thanks!
Great instructional video. I bought a motorcycle for myself recently and since getting professional repairs done around here is impossible, ive been learning how to do like 90% of things myself. To include changing a tire
If you can’t get the bead to seat as shown here, try running the strap diagonally across the tire. Also, a wider truckers’ type strap also might work better. Wider straps, with their longer handles and greater leverage, also are easier to release. Successfully seating the bead and airing the tire to ensure it stays put (assuming the valve is left in) makes the ratchet strap really tight.
This actually worked! I used this method on my water pressed tire
This saved me hour’s!! Thanks for sharing!!
if u seen on a tire machine the tire is not touching anything as u had the tire on the ground. thats why air wont stay in. u need the rim resting on sumthin with the tire not touching anything
Worked on a 32" coyote tire. Thanks !
I've done that trick on many tires works great
Just tried this method on my sons moped tyre worked a treat thanks pal
Chris UK
Did this exact thing in the Air Force on tires for our MQ-9 test stands while deployed to Africa. We were supposed to have gotten a full assembly but got just the tire.
I found this technique successful in mounting a 22 x 8 x 10 ATV tire. I ended up running the strap near the front side of tire and not down the middle though.
Thanks for video - i seem to need to do the same on my e scooter wheels and had no idea what "seating the beads" was - this video helped me understand the basics
@@liam.dwyer69 I "only" swapped front and end outer tyres on the escooter and that fixed my problem. No strap was needed afterall
Worked like a damn charm! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing.....this will help when on the trails!! 👍🏽👍🏽
Just used this trick. Used it before. Thought I invented it. Came on youtube for some tips a ether and the strap trick was all I found. Didn't want to blow myself up so just used the strap. First time i popped the strap to soon and it didn't seat. Second go I gave it hell a set both beads then released the strap. If some blew the strap it could do some serious damage.
Thanks for the vid! Helped me a ton
On the money mossman, I just did the same thing with 2 new mower tires. I couldn't get the QD to fill the tire w/o an air chuck on it though. I've seen others do it too but mine wasn't having it. I was lucky that I was doing smaller tires (20x10x8) that I could set the bead with the valve stem installed, remove the strap and continue to air up.
Mossman knows all the tricks of the trade! I learn something new almost every video I watch of his!
Been using a long pipe clamp (wormclamp) and drill with nut driver bit on small wheels like on hose reel carts etc., for years. I run the screw on the clamp with my drill just enough for the bead to contact the rim and put a little air in the tire, valve stem IN, then remove the clamp and fill tire to about 10 lbs over inflated rating to make sure the bead is "set". Then bleed it down to proper pressure. Works EVERY TIME! Thanks for "highjacking" MY idea!🙄
😂🤣😁
Thanks worked a treat.
Great video. Many thanks.
Great video
Yeah and last night I thought I was being clever and figured out how to do this with a ratchet strap - but you've been doing it all along the same way. A pox on all those who had my good ideas before me! Anyway, yeah be careful letting the strap go - My knuckles are covered in blood after fighting with this Chinese ATV and the crappy tires, but it worked.
Andrew Baker good humor. I hate it when others use my ideas before I come up with them too. Cheers
I've never had success with the strap on trailer tires , Lt 35x12 e load on stock 17x8 Dodge wheels , 265 70 17 mud tires e load on stock 17x7.5 jeep commander wheels . The strap did allow some heavy soap to make the final bead seal with a lot of air volume on a couple tires but it was a pita. A can of starter fluid and a lighter are much easier and making sure the valve core is out so you don't have to rush to fill it with air before it cools in second or two and sucks back in with the core out it will stay where it is .
THANK U FOR THIS TIP
Worked for me!
Just tried it on a trailer tire. Worked perfect. Thanks
Very helpful video. Thanks for sharing. Got me going again w/ my snow blower during this current storm.
Took me forever and a second ratchet strap but it got it done think if i had a thicket strayo it would've had a better result
Great video, saved my ass in a pinch!
Thanks
Awesome!
nice video
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ive used Vaseline for 20 years. Pack it around the rim and works every time! Messy but affective
Vaseline and other petroleum products should never be used on rubber. Just use silicone based lubricants.
Awesome
Will this work on a 295/60/r20
Funny, I didn't think I needed a valve stem remover since I already got the old tire off without it. Guess I need one away. Good tip. Question: Some videos say 100 psi or so is needed. Which is right? How much pressure are the "explosion" or seating tank methods producing? I'm struggling with a front motorcycle tire but I'm sure your video will help. Thank you.
Motorcycle tires can be difficult to seat the bead. My advise is to get some tire paste. That will really help to bead pop on. You will find the recommended psi for seating the bead on the tire. I wouldn't recommend going over that.
@@mossman381 my atv tire pressure says 7psi. I do think that'll pop that bead
Next idea is put tube inside and set up the bead both side .then lose bead only one side tak tube out side then put tubless nojjel n fitted the tyre after that put air easily
I only heard one pop for the bead seating? I just went through this (that's why I'm here watching) If you don't hear 2 pops, one for each side, is it a bad sign? Couple hours ago, mine only gave me one pop. Was getting ready to deflate it and start again, but it is holding air and I"m going to wait until morning and mounting to see if it is properly seated.
They don't always pop. You should be able to see that the bead is seated. There will be no gaps and the tire will look even on the rim.
@@mossman381 Yes! Did that check, and looks even to me. And I also put more dish soap on the wheel/tire edge. No bubbles. Googled it, and found that pops are relative. Depends on several factors. Picturing one side of the tire riding high, being well lubed, and 'sliding onto the bead'? And then just one side giving the expected pop. Was working with one source of information, when I started. After reading more, your comment helps, I think it is seated.
Some people change tires 5-6 times a year. (pros do it daily) I've done it about 3 times in my life. Need some reassurance that things are jake.
Thanks for the comment!
Could you have sprayed Wi dr. To seat it by slip method?
I have tire paste on the rim and tire. That really isn't the issue here. The air is escaping preventing the tire from inflating and setting the bead.
Won’t work with stiff wall humvee tires. Experience(lol)
I've done that with tractor tires for years I was a commercial truck tire man for 18 years I'm still in the business I just deliver now LOL. hey if you want check out my latest upload I just put a 6in rough country lift on the crew cab. Best part about it rough country says it doesn't work LOL!!
Just be careful. I did it to a tractor tire Sunday and the rachet broke when the bead sealed, almost hit me
Anytime you are working with tires you need to be careful. Even just airing them up to need to listen for weird noises and stay away from the blow out area. When I am airing older tires up, I look away. If the tire blows up it will probably seriously hurt me, but it won't take my vision. I saw a guy one time that had a semi tire blow up on him. He was blind, deaf and had some pretty bad scars all over him.
Knees and feet don’t work. I have tried to no avail.
Maybe if you had 4 knees :) I did get a few to bead up just pushing on them.
Awwww, come on! Using ether and a match is much more fun!
Tries that didn't work..
Didn’t even work
sure, if you own a bloody air compressor.
Probably shouldn't be mounting tires if you don't have a way to air them up.
Don't ever use a strap ever don't listen to anybody on UA-cam that does it with a strap do not watch videos talk to Tire professionals do not do it with a strap for God's sake don't do it with the strap you have no idea the danger in this learn to set the first bead on the bottom of your Rim if you're worried about not getting air in your tire you can do this with a 12 volt air compressor God's sake don't use a strap the danger in it
I explained the danger with a strap breaking. Everything in life is dangerous. Just walking up and down stairs is dangerous. Are we going to avoid stairs all our life.... no. You just have to be careful and use common sense. I have mounted a lot of tires in my life and I could not get the beads seated on some. This works and if you use common sense, you won't hurt yourself.
