1955-57 was a time in automotive history when almost every offering was beautiful. Whether a GM, Ford, or Mopar selection, you couldn't go wrong. As far as this Mercury, well it's a "Ken Car" which equates to a beautifully restored top-of-the-line example. I like the elegance of the green-blue against the black fabric top. This is when the world enjoyed beauty around them. Before we became banal about our surroundings.

I had many great times in the old 55 Merc. 292 , driving thousands of miles looking for trout streams, to fly fish. Hit a blind corner one time and rolled the car
three times down a pretty steep cliff, the only thing that saved us , was a huge oak tree. We walked until we met a really nice farmer and told him what happened, he got his tractor some chains and pulled us up the cliff , we gave him $10 all we really had except for some gas money. The roof was dented in pretty good and we really couldn't drive it. So Ralf and myself
put our backs to it , and managed to pop the roof almost to perfect position except a few small cresses, there was no damage to the sides at all. we checked the oil and anti freeze
and it started right up then headed home some 300+ miles. My father just happened to be standing there and there was all kinds of vegetation Debry around the car and the cresses
in the roof. He was a mean old sod, so I told him a tree fell on the roof, I think he knew but told me to be careful next time. Couldn't kill that car, it was full of life and treated me well.

@@freddyeltigre2327 great experience, glad no one got hurt. Back in the day the cars were built much heavier, the metal was thicker and they had heavy frames, but there were no crush zones to absorb the impact. The force has to go somewhere so better for the car to crush rather than our bodies absorbing it. Nevertheless, still love those old classic cars for sure!

Thanks again Ken and Lou for another great car story. The 50's had great color schemes and it is greatly appreciated that cars like this are restored with the original interiors and in the colors they came in instead of so many greens restored as reds. I always wanted a 57 Bel Air but because of how nice the 55-56 Mercury's were I bought a 55 Mercury Montclair Sun Valley instead because of the style, uniqueness and rarity today of those cars. The 55 and 56 Mercury's could be loaded with so many options they could be basically a baby Lincoln. My particular car has options of power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seats and factory air. I really like the Mercury's when they proudly displayed the winged helmet Mercury god in so many places on the cars. This kind of brand symbol has been lost on todays cars. The Mercury god went away and so did Mercury, The Pontiac Indian went away and so did Pontiac. The Oldsmobile rocket went away and so did Oldsmobile. Instead of an special car with their own identity they evolved into just another car. Thanks again!

Aha, and he strikes again, a wonderful color, truly colors you do not see in modern day on anything beside a nurses robe over, the wheels are flaunting their mid century white rimmed glory with a subtle match of color to the body, a dashing ring of Verona green, still life glistening wheels! The body absolutely dreamy, my first was a 1953 Cadillac Eldorado in 58', truly a remark of time, I would say timeless but I barely live in the 21st century to begin with. I love the red and white on the tail light, why what a merry streamlined silent motor.

Had a lot of fun , beating cars that should have beat me, 13.8 in the Quarter at 96MPH. I never forgot those Mercs and wish I still had one. I'm 80 now, but still remember beating the Farmer's 65 stripped Chev 327 350 HP. got him by a fender in the quarter. Monarchs weren't supposed to do that. That's the reason I'm still a Ford man.
