I have camped at the site where the South Bay narrows down heading into main lake portion of horse lake on the left as you head north. No shade from lack of trees but fishing was great from camp.
our spring trip down the royal river was the same situation this spring. outfitter said that it was passable 2 weeks after the guy overturned on a tree, and one of our canoes got a little close to the same. rerouted and headed toward east pike, which was nice because the portage was unpassable so we know we were the first ones coming from the macfarland side for the year.
That was fun to watch! I always argued a little with my brother (who always wanted to go look for more) about going looking for fish when we have already found fish 😂 Great content, looking forward to more videos in the future, new sub here.

@@portagemule We`re allways behind Blue Wolf fish ,Hoplias lacerdae ( locally known as " tararira Tornasol") There r other subtropical predatory species that r also a lot of fun to catch, golden Dorados are about 80 miles from my home also.That 1/4 ounce jig looks awesome! I have a thousand comment/ question for this video. Very impressed with monster pikes also. Since they`re no present here is of course a dream for angler.
Hi TopWaterWes! We actually use a basketball hoop as an anchor! We close one end of the hoop with a carabiner, put large rocks (so they don’t slip through the holes) in and then tie off the other end with another carabiner. The top carabiner is then tied to a nylon rope that we can attach to either end of the boat. This way we don’t have to carry a heavy anchor in and can modulate the weight of the anchor depending on wind/current
Hi David, great question! And Rob and I actually differ on what we do. When I use a spoon ie the Cyclops or the Dare Devil I am reeling in at a medium fast rate only letting sink for a second or two after casting. When Rob is using Larry’s Copper Magic he is reeling in faster with a fast jerking motion every few seconds similar to setting the hook. He swears the Northern Pike can’t resist it!

We use the Garmin Stryker 4 for our display unit and we customized it using a Scotty's transducer arm, switched out the battery that came with it from a lead battery to a lithium ion Yak Attack battery, and purchased a separate RAM Mount to attach the display to our custom-made thwart. We also purchased a toiletries bag from Amazon and then had a tailor add some straps to keep the battery and all the wires contained. The Yak Attack battery is 10,000 mAh and we get about 30 hours of use out of one charge. Just monitor your voltage and don’t go below the manufacturer's recommendation which is visible on the unit. Hey Chuck, So that thwart measures 39 in long and it's 3 and 1/2 in wide and it's 3/4 of an inch thick. It has a 5/8 in router out center for the accessories. I've used an African teak that I got from Rockler in Minneapolis. Once I had it fabricated routing the edges and routing out the center I used a spar urethane on it so that it would stand up to the water even though the teak already will. I also installed the 36-in tape measure directly onto the thwart. Best thing to do is measure your canoe and custom make yours to the specifications you prefer. I don't think you need to go with such an expensive piece of wood to be quite honest with you a hardwood of any kind and then spar finished would last on many trips. Hi Mike! On this video we’re in northern Minnesota fishing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area out of the Mudro entry point near Ely, Minnesota. Our plan was to try to make it to Crooked Lake, however, due to the high water, we were not able to get down the Horse River. So all the fishing in this video was in Horse Lake. More specifically, there was moving water between Fourtown and Horse that we fished where it flowed into Horse on the southeast part of the lake
