Joseph Oscar Nii Armah Mettle better known by his stage name Joe Mettle, is a Ghanaian gospel singer and songwriter.
Joe started his education at the Richard Akwei Memorial School and later moved to Kade 1&2 Primary School (Kade) where he spent about a year before returning to Accra, to St. Michael's and All Angels. He continued to Korle Gonno 3 Junior High School (JHS) and then later to the Accra Academy. He then attended the Pentecost University College.
In one of his interviews with Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Joe Mettle openly disclosed that he had a humble background in that he was once involved in childhood trades of items such as brooms, canes, waakye leaves, and sponges. All this made him the hardworking and responsible man he is today.
During his early days of singing, he worked as a backing vocalist for some Ghanaian Gospel greats including Cindy Thompson, late Danny Nettey, and Reverend Tom Bright Davies.
Along the line, he joined a music group called Soul Winners where he became a lead singer. Remember this song? Wala Abolo! That’s Joe Mettle and the Soul winners right there.
Fast forward a few years, and guess what? Joseph, now known as Joe Mettle, is sharing his voice with the big leagues!
But 2008 was the year the world truly met Joe Mettle. His solo debut, "God of Miracles," dropped, and it was like a fusion bomb of contemporary gospel, traditional Ghanaian rhythms, and vocals that could melt your heart. Boom!
He has been recognized as one of the most successful musicians over the decade. He has mounted so many international platforms with International Gospel Artists like Donnie McLurkin, Ntokoso Mambo and many more.
And the hits kept coming! "The Encounter," "Wind of Revival" - each album cemented Joe Mettle's place as a Ghanaian gospel king. But wait, there's more! He even snagged awards left and right, including Artiste of the Year at the VGMA - the first gospel artist to do so! Talk about breaking barriers!
He is known for his great passion as a worship leader and composer and is a multiple award-winning artiste with his most recent awards being the Artiste of the Year, Praise Achievement Awards in December 2023.
He has many nationwide hit songs including "Nhyira", "Medo Wo", "Akokyem Nyame", "Mensuro", "Turning Around" and "Yesu Adi Nkunim" to his credit. His latest hit that earned him nominations at 2017's VGMA is titled "Onwanwani" (God of Wonders). He has a number of albums to his credit. They are "My Gratitude" (2011), "Sound of Praise" (2013),"The Encounter" (2015),"God of Miracles" (2017) "Wind Of Revival" (2019), The Experience (2021), The Kadosh (2022) and Hallelujah (2023).
Joe married Salomey Selassie Dzisa in a traditional marriage ceremony in Accra (13 August 2020), and followed with an official wedding ceremony in Tema (15 August 2020). The couple are blessed with a beautiful baby.
