  • Interior designer, Charlotte Coote, gives us a lesson in combining bold design and soothing textiles as she gives us a tour of her Australian 19th century Marnanie home in Mount Macedon, Victoria. The home is both whimsical and comfortable. Layering different textiles and patterns while playing with different hues of a color is something Coote captures throughout her home. Her home is full of great artwork and fun collections including a set of Russian dolls in her daughter’s bedroom.
Coote’s house tour begins in her entryway that features a unique stained glass front door that opens into a bright space with a white console and panicle flowers from her garden. In her living room, her use of cream, soft green pillows, and subtle upholstery is livened up by her use of different scale and textured patterns. The fabrics range from cotton to wool creating a relaxing space with personality. Lighting is also a focus for her home ensuring there is light at different heights and scales. Coote’s saturated pink dining room is a rush of color and fun. She painted the walls a bold, hot pink with a glossy finish that is complemented by a custom copper chandelier of palm fronds and crystals that matches the print on the upholstered dining chairs. She plays with pink again in one of her daughter’s bedrooms with a peachy-pink toile upholstered on the twin beds while a more cool toned pink envelops the walls. The master bedroom features a vibrant, glossy blue hue on the walls and a canopy bed made from a fauna printed fabric. Coote explains she likes that style of bed as it feels like it creates a room inside of a room that feels comfortable and inviting. Overall, Coote’s home is a mark of bold design and contemporary genius that is both playful and sophisticated.

She introduces the dog but not her child who she completely ignores. The blue walls and green decor in her bedroom do not go together.

I would put those sofas a lot closer together. Seems like people would have to shout to be heard with the sofas that far away and against the walls. I would move each a few feet in towards each other.

Videography is awful. -- it is not visually cohesive and really undermines the episode.

How are you so intrigued about showing off your house that you ignore the little sad person that lives there.. she literally walked passed the little girl as if she wasn’t standing there..😢

I hate portrait mode ! I much prefer panoramic mode , such a when Schumacher visited Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s home. It looks far more professional !

Where do you live? I have been wanting a Monkey Puzzle tree for many years . You are the first person who actually has one in your yard! Imagine my surprise! It has been 30 years since I first saw one. By the way you home is delightful! Love your fabrics/ art!

Yeah, that was weird. It was like a horror movie, like an apparition that we just ignore ... felt like the Grudge or something.

I felt sad for the child. I guess she didn’t fit in with the decor at the time.
