It's been more than 10 years and this song still comes around! And still I haven't figured out why this version is so much better than the other
Honestly, I think it the singing. He really goes for it in this version and hits some higher octives. I think those keys are perfect too. It really sounds like your too most talented freinds are showing you their new song in their bedroom. Very intimate

If you compile The Shins B sides/rare tracks into an album it’s damn good. Mercer is possibly the best and most underrated song writer of his era.
This will always be the best recording of this song. I can’t even listen to the produced version anymore.

"Are your eyes changing heads?" Whenever I hear that I know I've chosen wisely. ^_^ Really, it's odd not hearing it in the studio cut. I always sing that whenever I play it around my place.
Love love love this version! the other one is great too, but it has that 50s feel which is cool, but this one has more feeling. I love them in general, but this one was definitely the better version.

I always thought itchy first time, then the other the second time.
Love the other version better
I like how the vocals are more up front in this version, but the studio version is far better otherwise.
