Thank you. I've heard this tale many times from several different sources but never with this level of detail.
Thanks for watching. I always try to find that little bit of extra detail that many of us never knew. Glad you liked it
Good to hear Rosie is still zipping about. Most people want to restore fighters, or big heavy bombers, but support, recon, and ground attack aircraft deserve love too!
This was a wonderful story. Thank you
Thanks for the love, Dutchman! Always great to hear from you!
@HistoryX Thank you for what you do X.
So happy to hear this proud historic aircraft was saved and is a memory of the great officer, who she is forever linked!! Thank!!
Wow I would love to see Rosie one day, what a amazing man he was... A real American hero. 🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸
I want to see Rosie in person, too
As always Ken, great job! Fantastic ending. Now what about the Kee Bird odyssey?
Thanks for watching, Frank! I hear you loud and clear about the Kee Bird.
What a wonderful story, well presented and narrated. The only nit I have to pick is that a lot of the liaison aircraft footage is not of a Piper but a Stinson. Other than that, well done.
Ok, you got me there. I get a lot of my footage from the National Archives. The only problem is that the moving images on file containing Piper L4's were mostly from the pacific. I didn't think it would make sense to have palm trees and ocean in the background of a story that took place in the French countryside. So I had to go with Stinson footage. Forgive me?
THAT GUY....
HE BADASS....
Definitely!
You fail to mention that the 360lb payload includes two crew and as the L4 was flown with only one person the weight of the bazookas would probably be equivalent to the second person and therefore the aircraft may not have been greatly overloaded
Great episode!
Thanks so much, Jon!
Interesting story, but I don’t like pictures of cessna L-19 Bird Dog when you talk about Piper Cub
Wow!! Big hero! Thank you for your wonderful service!
Amazing story! Thank you
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great stuff and well narrated!! Looking forward to more exciting works to come!! Bravo!! 👍😃
Thanks a bunch for the awesome feedback! Can't wait to share more with you soon!
Great video Ken
I've got to get busy on my RC model of Rosie and get her airworthy yet this year... 😁
Very interesting vid. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Amazing story, amazing bravery and a amazing pilot.
So glad you enjoyed the story, thanks for watching!
Thanks for an excellent biography. Major Charles Carpenter definitely made an impressive character. Thanks for this presentation... you have a new subscriber!
we need ten million men like that one ,,,the majority of youth today wont defend there country they had rather go to school for free and protest this country ,,,but my hat is off to the ones that do ,,,thank you ,to all men and women of the armed forces you make me feel safer
They don’t even want the god given rights and freedoms that all Legal American citizens have. And that American men , boys, women, animals, you name it. Paid the ultimate price with their blood and their Lives. And most were unfortunately short life’s. These unappreciative neophytes trying to do away with the fundamental building blocks of this country. Maybe they should take an educational trip to visit some countries to see how good America is. (Common sense would be required). Some towns in Mexico. Dirt floors, guys walking around with a liter of absolute in one hand & a machine gun in the other. Mexican police throw you and whoever in jail for asking where to get weed. Let you sit there and stew then softly ask how much cash can you withdraw from your atm? Ever try to cross the Mexican border illegally going south? Upon capture immediate deportation. No Times Square hotel stays ,free cell phone, free health care, transportation, food. Money. And they aren’t even AMERICAN CITIZENS!! Homeless American veterans get no help. No hotel stays. No free smartphones. No healthcare, and when they commit a crime they are arrested and prosecuted, but an illegal alien commits a felony for illegally crossing a border. They get rewarded. Democrats just want their votes in future. And that’s the most selfish anti American thing to do. Try to enter CANADA WITHOUT A PASSPORT. Sometimes even with a passport. You will be denied entry. It shouldn’t hurt your feelings. Every other country in the world enforces their borders. Some shoot onsite. But yeah let’s tear down the statue of Abe Lincoln cause he was racist. .
* Bravest American pilot
Thank you so much for watching!
Wow! Awesome!!
So glad you liked it. Thank you for watching!
Very intelligent history telling 10/10
Thank you for the positive feedback! Truly appreciated!
This guy rocks !
So glad you enjoyed learning about him
MOH MAJOR CARPENTER MAN WHAT A STUD MAN
Guys like him , They Real.. Thats Why they Brave
Thanks for the comment! You are so right. Major Carpenter makes me want to be a better man.
Rose was restored in the town of Sun River OR which is about 15 miles from me. He did find bullet holes in the plane. I did not fint out about the restoration until it was finished and was gone
“By August 1945” the war in Europe was over.
Oh wow! You are totally correct! I meant to say August, 1944, but you nailed it. Sorry for the error. Nice job picking it up!
@HistoryX it jumps out at anyone aware of WWII history.
Well said.
History X must have been tired at the time.
@@Svensk7119 Yep, definitely got the year wrong there. Thanks for keeping me in my lane :)
@@HistoryX All historians must help each other, else history becomes myth. Amateur and professional, we have a duty to each other, lest the truth be lost.
High-falutin' words aside, you are welcome. I just watched your Richard Bong video, and wondered if you were thinking of the one when you made the other, since the link to one displayed with the other.
In the late 40's and early 50's I was a young teenager hanging out at our hangar on Stinson field. My dad hired x gi's as flight instructors. We. Had cubs and Champs back then.
One of those guys who was a spotter pilot had a scar on his left cheek and his right cheek where a German bullet had passed through. Still he got his cub back safe on the ground.
He told me the Germans hated spotter pilots and tried to shoot them down. He said a fellow pilot got his engine damaged so that he pad to commit a forced landing behind enemy lines. He watched helplessly from the air as a German officer pulled his buddy from the downed cub, put a Luger to his head and killed him.
i saw his plane at the american heritage museum in massachusetts
It’s currently hanging in the American Heritage Museum which is part of the Collings foundation. Just seen it last week and it looks great, I’m sure it will be out soon for the summer time.
That's awesome to hear! I bet it's even more impressive in person.
@@HistoryXYeah it’s awesome, they did such a good job restoring it. It’s on a winch that’s bolted to the ceiling so they can raise/lower it quickly and push it out the door. They take off behind the museum and it’s usually out flying around at events and re-enactments. They have some amazing planes and tanks there if you ever get a chance to check it out, a lot with great history and back stories. I try going once a week and usually I meet someone I can talk nerd history with lol Great channel and video!
This is a nice story for "After the Battle magazine" in Holland (Toen & nu '40-'45 / magazine) Send it in, because we love history!
I've seen pictures of a Fiesler Storch with panzerfausts mounted.
Most kids these days haven’t even heard of World War 2 let alone anyone that fought in it.
It's crazy how disconnected some kids are from our history. We should share more stories about World War 2 to keep them informed.
Absolutely right!
They're not interested and won't listen
3:23 Talk about a soft landing!
Glad you liked it!
Why didn`t they give him a Mustang/P38/P47/Spitfire/Hurricane or even, A P40! Better, a Mossie!
You know, you mentioned the P47 Thunderbolt. Weren't those big-time tank killers?
A high-performance warplane was obviously armed and was probably the point ship for several others such as fighter-bombers or heavy bombers. A small liaison craft was obviously a low-performance spotter aircraft that was flying alone and unarmed (usually), so it would be easy to hide from or shoot down.
0-1 hàd it's advantages & seldom showcased. Brilliant ànd ballsy Pilot.
The film keeps interchanging Stinson L 5 with piper L 4
Great man, greater American.
Yep, they don't make them like that anymore
"Semper-Fi"
Definitely! Thanks for watching!
Hence the A10 😊
…literally doing the same thing a Stuka did four years before, only without the sirens or being purposely built for the role
I'd suggest the Major had earned a DSC rather that just a Bronze Star.
I hope you mean August 1944, because you said August 1945. Otherwise, good job.
There where no tiger tanks at arracourt. Obviously everyone called a German tank a tiger.
But most used where panzers.
Rockets like the p47 and tempest used where hardly effective against tanks.
That’s a myth. Bombs are the tool to destroy a tank or their crew.
So bazooka’s at 100 yards (90meters) is an big achievement. It made his actions more special.
You are correct there were no tigers at arracourt. The thing is those tank kills came from battle of the bulge. The mistake of the video imo. How come the p47s didn't hit those tanks? They were grounded due to fog
@@chadrowe8452 I meant the rockets form those bigger planes where not killing a tank. Maybe damaging it but they where repairable. Bombs did. Check out the chieftain hatch for more information on that subject.
Je will learn that a view tigers 1’s where found in broken situations during the liberation campaign towards the east.
Only one battle had occurred where Sherman’s did kill all tiggers due to better tactics.
The view tigers present that presented themselves where bomb or shelled to be come scrap.
Realise that the tiger 1 s where send east for the most of it not many came back
How did he not get a Medal Of Honor?
You show images of a Stinson L5 and refer to it as an L4 Piper
That was the first A10 wart hog
Please add Greek subtitles
How did the Major get up in the air? Did they take into the account his two cast iron balls!
That plane should be in Day, Ohio at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
True Fighting Man. HELL Yes 🇺🇸
Much of your video shows a Stinson l-5 might wanna fix that otherwise good video
Ok, you totally got me there. Another viewer noticed this as well. A lot of my footage comes from the National Archives. The problem here is that the video on file containing Piper L4's appears to be mostly from the Pacific. It didn't make sense to have palm trees and ocean in the background of a story taking place in the French countryside. So I hope that explains the need for the Stinson footage?
Understandable that some footage maybe hard to find. You might find some good footage if you wanted to add to the video from EAA and I know the actual Rosie the rocketeer is being restored to flying condition
A 5 minute story stretched out and examined.
L4 "Grasshopper", based on the J3 Piper Cub.
You make a good point here. I used 'Cub' and 'L4" interchangeably in this video. Upon further review, during WWII, they were all L4's, weren't they?
Absolute U S ARMY AMERICAN BADASS Soldiers get it DONE. Soldier on Soldier HooAhh!
Ive heard a similar story to this about the British fixing a 30 cal machine gun to the side of the rear cockpit of a grass hopper observation plane to strafe U boat conning towers, using the same sort of attack run as puff the magic dragon or C130 spookys...
By August 1945 ????
Yes, you are totally correct. Another viewer pointed that error out as well. I meant to say August, 1944, but you nailed it. Sorry for the error. Nice job picking it up!
What a shame his aircraft is buried in a museum in Massachusetts where few people will get a chance to see it or learnt its history
