This seems like the most honest review I’ve found. Wish you endorsed it more but from reading all the comments it doesn’t look like it’s worthy enough for me to make the switch even though I want new toys.
Thank you, i tried to like it more but it just didn’t offer anything to get excited about. I’m a big fan of most Festool products but this one unfortunately just doesn’t offer anything above the competition for the price .
The tool only price here in Germany is almost as high as the set price for the top of the line Makita DTD171 with two 5.0 batteries. I really dont get Festool sometimes. Thanks for showing it though and going into some details!
Hope it helps. That price makes no sense for something with little to no upsides. I do know in North America they lowered the price by reducing the distributors already thin profit margin. Maybe your distributors refused to do that.
Ich fühle deinen Frust über die hohen Preise. Aber Makita ist mittlerweile ziemlich China Schrott geworden. Festool ist fast ausschließlich made in Germany. Gute Dinge kosten nun mal gutes Geld. Und du kannst Festool Geräte auch nach vielen Jahren noch für gutes Geld loswerden.
That makita impact is incredible too. I have had the top of the line makita offerings for years and 2 have lasted me around 11 years now. I was hoping this festool was going to be something spectacular as a little step up
Hey thanks, I’ve ran the m18 fuel in the mix the festool has more torque and is marginally smoother but the m18 is quieter and keeps up well. I do not have the Hilti unfortunately.

diagoras moustakas I have owned just about everything Festool has made in the past twenty years. The TID18 was the first tool I’ve ever returned under their 30 day warranty. It had the worst runout of any impact or drill I’ve ever owned (to the point of unusable). It was slower and weaker than even my Bosch (newer model, but still known to be pretty low on the power scale). The balance and grip were pretty awful. The belt clip was may as well have been made of tin foil. I can go on and on, but to summarize: it was laughably disappointing. My Makita runs circles around it (xdt16) and as far as I’m aware, the Milwaukee seems to be it’s no. 1 contender. I’d avoid Hilti cordless unless you’re part of their target market.
Robert Rada I agree completely I would compare this impact more to a ryobi or craftsman. I have ran the Milwaukee I prefer it. I’m also a festool fan usually

Just how I like a tool review to the point, demo and not 1/2 hour long. I have a milwaukee 2853 nice, easy to use, thought about Hilti or Festool to further inpress the customer. I am a finish carpenter, to see my packout, hammers In foam chest, gets ah's a lot . Wonder how the Hilti or Festool would do? Think he is too pricey or making lot of money? Hum. I've bought TID18 about month ago, and I feel a little bit confused about it. For that price it doesn't have any cool features at all, it just an ordinary impact driver. Of course I have other Festool 18V tools so I don't want to buy a tool with other type of accum... but I'm a bit dissapointed. I'd like to take more for my money, especially here in Russia, where wages are half of german's at best and price is 20 per cent higher.
trezzh4 it’s not a bad tool by any means. But being festool and a high price comes with some expectations, to at least be on the same level as the competition. If your already on the batterie platform it makes total sense to pick one up. But little things for example the led on the base. Something so simple the competition moved to multiple lights or a ring light etc. around the bit years ago. It all adds up.
Former boschuser, swapped to festool 3 years back. Well, it's pricy. There is better impacts, faster stronger and so on. For the pricetag on this machine one wants something on top of the others brands but... I will not have 2-3 different accus brands and chargers to hump around the sites. I still have one hard killed bosch, the metallsaw with the 136mm blade. Bosch stopped to build them....? Why no one knows! A 140mm woodblade on it. And it is close to magic, silent, high rpm. Will shead a tear if it burns. May even consider to repair it. In Sweden it the same price as buying a new one, close to it at least.
Exactly premium price for a tool with no premium features and arguably more flaws. Staying with one battery platform is ideal this tool was supposed to draw people to Festools and I don’t think it fits the Bill. Keep an eye out for a used metallsaw they come up from time to time, never hurts to have a second.
I own many Festool tools that I use in my business,. I used to laugh at the thought of owning Festool $400.00+ drills, now I own 6 of them. I have to say they are built better than the competition and the number one thing for me is chuck run out...

This impact however not only doesn’t innovate in anyway, it doesn’t even have the features of the current competition. On top of that it has added flaws such as the blow off and grip. This is a big miss in my opinion even with a lower price tag it’s just a bad tool launch.
Ian Rose it’s .7lbs lighter bare than most normal impacts like the Dewalt. That’s a marginal difference, my opinion on this one is festool missed the mark. Their intent was to bring more people to the platform and I don’t think this is the tool to do. Not all of their tools are better, most are very good.
svt Milwaukee also has 3 speeds and a self tapping mode, that’s nothing new. The shape of the outer mounding is similar to some of the makita but it’s not the same by a long stretch. This has a different motor, it has more torque than the makita. The tid has the led in the base makita moved there’s up like most manufacturers, the list goes on. That being said I prefer the makita.

I live in the UK and am a big fan of Festool. I've just checked the cost of this impact driver and it equates to almost $550. Not for me this time.

The chucks are regular Roehms which every bigger manufacturer uses, which is not bad, but there is nothing superior about that.

It’s on par just costs more. Personally I would pick up the Milwaukee first. That says a lot since I am a fan of most of Festools stuff.
