      Rocket Knight on Gens is Amazing. Sparkster on gens was rough though as someone who also played it on SNES first. Still fun.

    Konami was kicking ass with it's Genesis/MD releases in those years. RKA, Contra Hardcorps, Castlevania Bloodlines, all top tier games for the system

    I loved Rocket Knight Adventures original, and I never did like the feel or look of the sequels. The first game had so much better art direction. The gameplay felt tighter. Music is really great. Lots of level variety for a platformer. And it doesn't overstay its welcome with too many levels. Do note that if you want the true ending you do not want to play it on the easiest difficulty.
    Surprised they didn't include the digital PS3/360 game that they had made. Must have be too much work for those folks at Konami to try to port it.

    QOTD: EASILY Boktai. Truly one of the most unique games I've ever experienced in the medium. I'm still salty that we never got the third game, and that Lunar Knights was a flop :c

    The boss track in the original Rocket Knight on gens had no business being as good as it is. Its a whole dance track. It had me BSing the bosses just to keep it going.

    Sparkster in 2010 has aged a lot, that is in the sense that I understand that they want his original body design from his first game back but it can't always be the same then he gets old and everything changes, and like bubsy he too has aged a lot, but sparkster will always be a good cute mascot and I love his games❤❤❤

    I would say Castlevania is my favorite Konami franchise.....with Metal Gear a very close second.👍

    It’s a shame this collection doesn’t include the 4th installation of the franchise from Xbox. It is incomplete.

    If anything these reviews really show that Sparkster hit the mark back then as a quality franchise, and it's a pity they just dropped it. I wonder why? Couldn't decide which development team should be handed the series after the 32-bit generation started, maybe? Disappointing sales for the sequels? Or maybe they just wanted to prioritize their old faithfuls getting the 3D-treatment first with Goemon and Bomberman, and after that they didn't have any teams left for a Sparkster game?
    Well, whatever the case may be I'm looking forward to seeing this collection, so I can finally get my hands on the SNES version and close out the gap in my knowledge. And for the question- Castlevania. It's the series from Konami I have the most consistent experience with, more so even than Metal Gear and Mystical Ninja. Can't get enough of them Belmonts, no sir!

      Bomberman was a Hudson property and only became a Konami one when Konami bought Hudson in the early 2010s.

      This isn't that surprising. Much like Retro-Bit, Limited Run Games does their pre-order campaign and then there's the production period, which can usually last a few months. It's not uncommon to wait 4 - 6 months for the game, as everything needs to be made and mailed out.

      Not at all. There's a small learning curve as you get used to his moves, but it all becomes second nature after a few minutes. No harder than your typical 2D action game or platformer from that era.

    Beware, Limited Run Games is a very woke company who didn't hesitate to fire an employee because she said she'll play... Hogwart Legacy. If you do not want to support that type of dictatorial behavior, do not support this company by buying games from them.

    I want this collection now. Rocket Knight Adventures was one of my favorite games on the Genesis. The soundtrack was also great. I would rank it right alongside the soundtracks for the Streets of Rage games on the Genesis.

    I learned that the genesis and SNES sparkster were separate games after the prices on them became too absurd so looking forward to this collection. Was always sad Konami sort of ditched this character when the 32 era started.
    QOTD, Casltevania.

    RKA is pretty much my favorite Genesis game that doesn't involve fast blue hedgehogs. It blows my mind that it took ober three decades for it to see any rerelease at all, but hey, it's here! That enough is reason to be excited. Also, I've never played the Genesis Sparkster, and maybe played five minutes of the SNES one on a friend's laptop long ago, so I am excited to finally be able to check those out proper.
    As for my fave Konami franchise, it's definitely Castlevania. Whether it's the classic style, the Igavanias or even the 3D PS2 games, the series always delivers, and contains many of my all-time favorite games

    Definitely considering picking this one up, I missed the sequel back in the day, having moved to PCs those days.
    QOTD; They are a goldmine of franchises. Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, so many good ones. But Parodius doesn't get enough love, so I pick that one.

  • @felman87
    @felman87 8 місяців тому +4

    Oh, was this a case of the Genesis and SNES version of the same title being different? I remember that happened at times back then. The development teams were different. Sometimes that lead to the same game, with slight difference but other times the games were separated before pre-production, so they would be quite different. We had a Genesis starting out. Sometimes that was fine, I prefer the Genesis Aladdin over SNES. But other times it sucked. Shadowrun on the SNES was an RPG and I love that genre.

    • @DefunctGames
      @DefunctGames  8 місяців тому +2

      Yes. Two completely different games with unique levels, bosses and stories. Not ports, which you might expect when you see both games sharing the same name. You're getting three completely different games when you buy this compilation.

    Ahhh…the heyday of Konami. Castlevania is my favorite of the Konami franchises, with Contra, Metal Gear, Rocket Knight, Suikoden, TMNT and Gradius as close seconds. But some real forgotten Konami gems are Goonies II, Axelay and The Legend of the Mystical Ninja series…especially the first SNES and the first N64 games…

    I'm looking forward to getting RKA: Re-Sparked, as the Rocket Knight Adventures series is a terrific but sadly underutilized one.
    Now, if only Konami would release all ten of their Tiny Toon Adventures games in a compilation. That's the reason why I bought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection and why I'll be buying RKA: Re-Sparked.

    Can't say that I've played any of these. Again, have a feeling that I have them on my computer, probably in MAME in fact, but haven't played them. In answer to your question, probably would go with CastleVania. That it the one I've played the most.

    Some of my favorite games. Rocket knight on Gens is fantastic. Its not Sonic but its still beautiful. Sparkster on gens was rough. Sparkster on SNES though is beautiful in the same way as the original on gens but more edgy. His sprite went from cute to badass.

    I LOVED (love) Rocket Knight on the Genesis. It's one of the best run & guns. I never thought of it in the same vein as Sonic, but more Gunstar Heroes and Contra. It influenced me quite a bit, while I was making Strider 2014.

    LRG is effectively a scam. I preordered a Star Wars Jedi knight/jedi academy 2.
    Spent $80 total. They Took roughly 1.5 years beyond what they said, and less than 6 months after I finally got it the developer put out a collection of the two games on one cart, for $40 total.
    “Limited?” Hardly. The $40 version is better they’re both on the same cart.
    LRG are scum.

      I think for many people (myself included) the problems just aren't really prevalent. I've been ordering since Octodad and, with a few particular exceptions, the games always arrive soon enough for me. I also don't waste money on nonsense collector's editions with all the extra tat that makes them so overpriced, so that could be why I've never had issues.
      Point being, I doubt I'm the only one with my experience. Been ordering for years, never had problems.

    • @danfortuna1984
      @danfortuna1984 7 місяців тому

      yea i dont order the collectors editions either but i've had numerous problems with them and most games take up to a year to finally ship which is nonsense. i still have 2 games im waiting for that i ordered 11 months ago lol@@icarusfluffybottom899
