I recently heard that if we had to build an Army quickly today it would be difficult as today's men are often out of shape and overweight.

Thank you. My male ancestors for the most part were Confederates. One died of measles at Camp Moore in Louisiana. My gg grandfather died years after the Civil War from diarrhea which he had contracted during the war. I want to make a list of my ancestors who died in the war and their cause of death.

That would be a good idea!. I'm curious of the type of Diarrhea or stomach issues your Great-Grandfather contracted that caused his death. Maybe you could Google different Stomach ailments that could be the cause.

At the beginning of the War, there was a desperation for Manpower on Both sides. So, if a Man could stand, walk, and shoot straight, there were little interest in how "well" a person was.
