That is a good down to earth clean simple movie just the way things were back in the day , love the old school t-shirts , signs, and women with no tattoos, and the legendary 392 hemi , and one thing I caught at the start when they close the doors on the challenger you hear that klunk sound I remember that sound so well, for me the late 60s into the 80s was the best times , sure miss them.
I still have a VHS copy somewhere around here. As corny as the plot is, it is a great time capsule of So Cal racing in the early 70's Thanks for posting it! Merry Christmas!
Girlfriend won't come to the racetrack with you? Ditch her. Worthwhile movie. Better script than I expected, and the vintage drag cars are always great.
The early 70's Plymouth/Dodge station wagon of all things, got me.. our family had a plymouth "fuselagr body" SW with a 383 big block. Our dealer had the car ordered for another buyer who specified a purple cam, a replacement spread bore Carb and like a 3:73 or so rearcend. We took deliver aftervthe original buyer defaulyed. That SW was FAST Like high 12 seconds which was phenomenal forb the era we had a whole wing of the family which were staunch Mopar fanstics...all great memories of a time we had rear cars in this country.....
Miss those days. Dad had a Ford wagon and a flat-bottom w/429 Ford out of a old mesa,az cop car they B&blueprinted. Back when you needed a ice pick after stopping at the ice house for a real block of ice. ( plus night crawlers/eagle claw hooks)
Jesus, l forgot all about co-driver days. 10 second Camaro wearing just jeans, T-shirt, Jack Purcells and a helmet. Carol wearing a tube top, peasant skirt and clogs. Let it eat. Hahahahaha! York U.S.30 rocked.
I have a brand new 1965 FED for exhibition only in my garage and was going to take it out in February, and just found that the track is sold and being demolished. Sucks!! PS. Copied it from a chassis I had that was built by Garlits.
That’s cool…your FED not the track closing. I’m putting together a wicked little small block chevy with nothing to put it in lol. Likely build a nostalgia altered of some kind of find a chassis.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"
Super cool…..on a sad note my semi-local track Route 66 raceway in Joliet is officially closed….inaugural race was 1996. I was at that one and every race since. So sad. Watched many a ET and MPH records in all pro categories it seemed like almost every year. RIP Route 66 raceway….u will surely be missed.
I know how you feel my track has given way to development in Houston. Many records there as well and many more memories going with my dad every year. NHRA is going through some tough times with a lot of different things but I am hopeful that it will return to the glory days.
5:43 "The Pontiac wins with a time of 17.56" LOL. Wow have we come a long way from that. A Corolla will do at least in the 15 second mark I would think now.
That Challenger Convertible has ’72-’74 Challenger front and rear but last year for a convertible Challenger / ‘Cuda was 1971. So not sure how this was movie was made in 1971? But as someone else mentioned, seems I remember Mod Squad or Mannix(?) had this car.
Been following drag racing since 1992. While I've heard of this movie I've yet to see it until now. I'd heard it was bad movie. I disagree. I thought this is excellent movie!
Yes that's blue boy I couldn't place him until I saw your comment ... I was surfing the comments trying to get a lead on who he was it was bugging me big time I'm glad you ask cuz when I saw your comment that's when it hit me to who he was thanks Stan
Not as much corporate sponsorship on the race cars back in 71. The cars had names, but no sponsor name drops like you might get today from a driver like Force.
You just can't movies like this anywhere, they're all on VHS tapes in the dump now. Today your forced to watch what the big providers say you should watch. Yt is just as bad, I noticed you didn't put the movie's name on here which is good. Can't even go to some download site because they don't work or give you a virus.
Actually, it is Drag Racer (1972) per IMDB. Filmed in July 1972 and released August 1972. John Davis Chandler ... Dave Mark Hopkins ... Stan Kitty Murray ... Sheila Preston Pierce ... Norm Mark Slade ... Jeff Jeremy Slate ... Ron Karen Swanson ... Julie Deborah Walley ... Chris Some footage is from 1971 drag racing, which is why there are so many front engine slingshot dragsters.
This year movie was wild, tracks with roller starts, old push starts and 1 electric starter, front engine rear engine fuelers , undecided rear and front wings ! I'm from the earlier drag racing crowd AA/FD , yet hero was running my favorite a 392 Hemi. Bad acting poor video , I don't care I'll watch it again ! Hunter dragster hemi power, did he become the "Hemi Hunter" w/427 Chevy ?
Drag racing I like but dull-minded, hot-headed actors fighting thru the whole thing is ridiculous. That's what Hollywood is willing to endure for minimum wage talent in 1971.
This was way more entertaining than anything Hollywood has done in a decades

Have you ever watched a whole movie that is out of focus because you are a gear head? Yeah me too!
Yeah, and going to full screen just makes it more blurry.
Hope you get this message thanks for the heads up
Yeah and the actual movie sure wasn't worth watching..
Yes just now
I don't even notice until the ads come on.
The film's not as blurry as the acting though.

I watched the whole thing. It’s stupid! And I love it !!!
Thanks for posting. I saw a poster for this movie at a movie theater all those years ago. But never got to see it. Good racing scenes from back then.
Awesome classic! Thanks for posting. 😄
The music in the beginning of this video is awesome!
Kwality!!! I concur that was Top Kwality!!!

What a lot of people don't know is that the 671,871blowers came off of various Diesel trucks "borrowed of course"
Been there, did that. Thank you Stewart and Marsh.
GM or Detroit Diesels. 6-71 is an inline, 2 stroke, engine. The blower is necessary, as there aren’t intake valves, just ports in the cylinders

Thanks CPTV
Thank you for the video!
Movie was produced at a critical point in top fuel racing. Front to rear engine transition.
Yeah, and the old push start.
Glad I watched the whole thing.
ALWAYS GREAT TO SEE COMPLETELY UNWATCHABLE QUALITY.
Still my favourite era of drag racing, not that I was around then…!!!👍🏻
Well, no doubt the '72 E Body convertible controversy will get stirred up again! 🤣🤣🤣🤣Over all, not a bad movie! Loved the old footage!
Thanks for posting this. Never saw it back in the day.

I have never seen a 1972 Challenger Conv. Didn’t know one existed? Is this the “Brady Bunch” car?
Haha, was wondering the same thing. It has flush side marker lights though so, converted to a ‘72? Why, I don’t know.
It didn't exist not to the public at least
The announcer is the same voice as in American graffiti 2.
I heard Jemery Slate passed away is this true he played in a lot of biker movies that l liked
