Hello Tony, that is an excellent video well done. The only thing that you missed was telling people not to talk on repeater output channels, many do especially rock quarry.
Thank you, this was a good video to start with. CB radios will be going off like a rocket in the coming year after all the disasters that made communications impossible. Best wishes.
Hi Troy, well done on the UHF radio. About aerials, as you mentioned the base antenna is at the highest point, I have also noticed that other people use UHF radios in the horizontal state.
@@GMEaus I have 2 Electrophone TX470 T radios both 40 channel, the next will be GME as I have spoken to a tech at GME. Also I gained my license to VK3.
Thanks for the basic tips for us newbies. Question though: in all the videos which I've watched about antenna performance, nothing is ever mentioned about their reception performance, only how well they can transmit? I'm often picking up chat with a LOT of static. I turn the squelch up to cut out the weaker signals, but still the noisy transmissions tend to persist. Could you do a quick one on how to get the best reception from our antennas, please? Thanks
I've always wondered what the line is concerning an emergency. If you have a car crash, that might be an emergency. If you have a flat tyre somewhere without a phone, does that count as a emergency and warrant the use of channels 5 or 35?
Hi mate, common sense needs to apply here. If the situation is truly an emergency, use 5 and 35. If you have a situation like a flat tyre but have adequate food and water and your life is not in danger, it is better to try and make contact with someone on another channel such as the call channel (11) or the highway channel (40)
It is not suggested to transmit on ch 35 as a simplex channel, in fact it is not ideal to use any repeater input channel. I advise to use ch 5 with duplex on. Why, the repeater hears you on 35 and re-transmits out on 5. Those listening on 5 will hear you but they can't respond as your listening on 35. Clear as mud :)
Note : Beginners are the ones who need to be taught that 31-38 are repeater input frequencies and NOT TO BE USED. Also, there is no one listening on Ch 5 or Ch 11. No one is there. If you've got a problem or emergency it's best to use Ch 40. Another tip is to not hold your hand held sideways. There's a huge loss when turned sideways.@@GMEaus
Hi Fry, it may be due to a loose connection in your set-up. Either way we would recommend contacting our service team on techsupport@gme.net.au and they will be able to assist!
If nobody uses channels 5 & 35 (assigned as emergency channels) what good is it to transmit on those channels during an emergency if nobody is on those channels?
Re Channels, also avoid using 31-38 and 71-78 as they are repeater inputs. It is a real pain having people operate simplex on repeater inputs, why not lock them out on new radios? Here in the bush people have no idea they are interfering with conversations on repeaters. John VK2ZJJ . Radio Rescue 39.

greetings from nz. are some of the top end Uniden CB ie UH755 are suitable for transmit from bush hills to another user being at home as walkie talkie? thanks
Hi there, we can't speak for our competitors products and their capabilities. For handhelds they are recommended for closer range comms and would their suitability would ultimately depend on the distances between the users and the terrain around them.
Hi there, this would depend on the model of radio that you have. If you could give us some more info on the radio we can help. Or alternatively, give our tech support team a call on 1300463463 and they can advise!
I just buaght a tx 677 from Repco to replace my trusty 5 year old baofeng. I tried charging it in the truck through USB for two hours and then turned it on still plugged in, it worked for a minute and then it died as soon as ai pressed the talk button. Now it will only charge enough to turn on for a minute but then the screen fades out and it turns off or if I press the talk button it turns off..
Hi Leon, sorry to hear that! We would recommend contacting our service department on techsupport@gme.net.au regarding this and they will be able to assist.
I own several GME radios, both VHF GX850 and UHF TX6160. They simple don't hold charge (the VHF is the worst). Leave them a few days without being plugged in and they go flat and can't even power on.
Hi Matt, Thanks for the feedback! Please note that provided the unit is left on they will run flat after a few days. However if they are not holding charge after a couple of hours we would recommend contacting our service department on techsupport@gme.net.au and they will be able to look into it further.
Oh god, even guys at work are guilty of point one, they start talking, then push the button, you miss out on what they first said. Of if they are just saying "yes" all you get is a click.
Hi John, this can be done but by having the squelch opened fully it will allow more transmissions to be picked up, including an increase in the amount of unwanted/weaker radio signals. These transmissions are usually heard as static/white noise which may be very irritating to the user. So for user comfort many opt for a lower squelch setting.
@@GMEaus Thank you for replying. Very informative, you explained that beautifully to this newbie. I am researching and it looks like GME get most of the best reviews. I'm saving my money to buy quality now after previously thinking a cheaper brand would suit. Cheers.

Thank you. What's is the channels trucks use ?
Generally, Channel 40 is the highway channel for truckies in Australia.
Very nice presentation!👍
When making contact on ch11 do both people have to be on that channel first? Or will any channel pick up ch11 broadcast?
Yes that is correct! You have to be on the same channel to communicate with each other.

If nobody uses channels 5 & 35 (assigned as emergency channels) what good is it to transmit on those channels during an emergency if nobody is on those channels?
Hi there!
There would be people that are still scanning across these channels and would be able to listen in!
So CB radios are not designed for privacy but full communication? We can’t talk about private things since we can’t get on a private channel right?
That's correct, UHF CB is designed as an open, public communication system.
G'day can my UHF gme also b used as a scanner ?
