Katatonia have been around now for almost 30 years. They started out as just two friends (the singer and the guitarist) who knew nothing about music except that they wanted to be musicians. The singer started out as the drummer, just banging on pots and stuff because they couldn't afford a drum kit. They started with doom/death metal and growled voice but the singer had the wrong technique and hurt his voice so he stopped doing growls and started clean singing. They changed their sound considerably at that time and since then it has been a slow but steady progression and evolution. So, this song is a little faster, more driven then most of their other stuff, but it still has the melancholic atmosphere that they are known for. They manage to stay in a relatively narrow stylistic niche yet at the same time each song is strong, memorable, and stands on its own. I have always also compared them to The Cure, maybe because of the melancholic feel.
Hi! Songtipps: Where August Mourns und Save Us. Kein Gegrowle, fantastischer Gesang und Instrumentierung. Melancholisch, melodisch, hart, großartig. Grüßle! :)
To me personally this is one of their more boring tracks. Author, Opaline, Sclera ,Atrium and Absconder from the same album (Sky Void of Stars) are way more interesting, as is Drab Moon and No Beacon to Illuminate our Fall. But hey, this is my personal preference. And then you have at least 5-6 more albums of extremely good material to choose from.
12 albums and to me this band is totally new 😅 is there any other song I should react to? Let me know through my Patreon!

Totally agree on the THE CURE comparison, thank you for all the insights:)
